59. Return To Denmark.

[Claire]
"I'm going back to Denmark," I announced at the breakfast table and the room turned icy in an instant.
I had stopped Sophie from clawing Ivan with her nails last night after he threatened to harm me and the securities had escorted him out.
I didn't bother to have any more drinks and then we returned back home. After helping Sophie and making sure that she was okay, I went back to my room to facetime Jean.
He was really sweet and he listened to all of my rantings till I fell asleep on our facetime.
When I woke up the next morning, I found a bunch of texts from him and I could not help but think about how much I missed him.
I wanted to surprise him so I didn't tell him that I was returning back soon but I had already made up my mind to go back to Denmark.
My short leave from work was almost over and I felt like there was nothing here for me. Sophie also really needed to get back to work too, Michele had been complaining about the workload since she left.
If I stayed, my father would just keep hounding me to marry Ivan and I was not having it, also I couldn't really tell whose story I believed more so I really did not know what I thought of my parents right now.
Initially, I thought I'd feel something else when I found my mother but I still felt the same after discovering who she was.
Nana had always treated me like a mother treated her own daughter and she had been with me every step of the way, in all my stages of growth, every doctor's appointment, every school event, and honestly she didn't miss out on my life.
In her case, I was mostly mad because she was right there, right underneath my nose and I didn't realize it. I kept searching for something that was never lost to begin with. I was mad because I did not appreciate those moments with her, especially my teenage years.
At first, I thought Nana was pretending to care for me because it was her job but over the years we developed a bond and I realized that she actually cared for me and I was grateful for that but now it turned out that she was my real mother and her love and care had been real all this while.
I remembered screaming at her face that she wasn't my mother during some of my teenage meltdowns, looking back now, I wondered how she must have felt.
"Claire." My father started with a warning tone but I wasn't going to fall for it.
"If you're going to talk about marrying Ivan or the company again, I already told him that I'd never marry him and in case you didn't know, I don't care about the company," I said.
My father was about to say something but it seemed that my mother licked him under the table because he coughed and sat upright then started his sentence again.
"I know you need some time and your mother and I have decided to give you that, we only ask that you contact us regularly and I only ask that you take your credit card, I don't want you to be uncomfortable there and you should get a new apartment, Ivan says the one you have now is trash."
"Fair enough." I sighed, thankful that they were going to respect my decision. "I can't promise to call regularly but I will try and as for my apartment, I like it just the way it is and I don't need your money," I said.
"Okay but promise to call if you really need some." He said and I nodded.
"When are you leaving?" Nana asked, I still couldn't call her my mother yet besides I was already used to calling her Nana, I knew that it would take a while to adapt to that change.
"Probably this afternoon, we're still trying to find an open flight," I replied, avoiding her eyes.
"You can take the private plane." My father offered.
"Fine then, we'll leave immediately after breakfast," I said and stood up from the table.
As I walked back to my room, I heard Sophie thanking them for allowing her to stay in their home.
Then she rushed to my side.
"Are you sure about this?" She asked as we walked up the stairs together.
"We have to go," I told her.
"Yeah but I can leave if you need more time alone with them." She offered.
"No, we came together, we're leaving together," I told her.
"Are you just going to leave things the way they are, aren't you going to try to resolve them?"
"I tried Soph and I've been trying since I was born, I'm just tired of trying now."
"Please go and pack your things, we'll leave once we get an all clear from my father, it shouldn't take long for the plane to be available."
I walked up to my room with a straight face but when I got in, I burst into tears, I expected them to beg me to stay or something but they chose this time to be respectful of my feelings, it annoyed me.
I packed all my things in a hurry and then I changed my outfit. I'd already taken a shower that morning so I just changed my clothes, touched up my face with some makeup, and used some perfume.
When I got downstairs, Sophie was ready, she looked stunning in her wine dress and ankle boots, she had a bold red lipstick on her lips and she had a smokey eye makeup going on.
I went for a bright eye because I felt my eyes looked a bit dull and I wanted a bit of a shine to them, I went with a pink lipstick because I didn't want to do too much and I just let my outfit speak.
I wore a tight white mini dress and I put on matching white ankle boots then I wore a pink blazer to complete the look.
"The plane is ready, the chauffeur will drop you off at the airport." My father said and I nodded my head.
"Thank you."
"Be safe always my dear." Nana came close to me to embrace me but I avoided her hug.
"Goodbye." I waved as Sophie and I walked out of the house, the servants behind us helping us with our bags.
"Goodbye Mr. Hamilton, Miss Fiona." Sophie waved to them as well.

"Why didn't you tell me your father was this rich soon, so you mean we could have traveled in a private jet when we were traveling first class and you say you love me, make that make sense," Sophie said as soon as we boarded the plane.
"Don't get used to it, Soph," I advised her and she just flipped me off.
"You don't love me." She cried dramatically.
"Come on, stop saying things like that," I told her but she just ignored me.
I decided to sleep because I didn't have much rest last night between face timing Jean and thinking about what to do about my family, there was barely enough time for me to get my beauty sleep.
I did not know how long the flight was going to be but I did not expect it to be so short or maybe I ended up sleeping for way too long.
Sophie tapped me to wake me up when the pilot announced that we were going to land soon.
I saw a box of empty food and wrappers of empty snacks on her table and I glared at her.
"Oh no, don't give me that look, I'm not the one who asked you to stay up last night."
"How did you know?" I asked her.
"Well, I came to check up on you last night and I just left when I heard you laughing with your beau." She said, looking disgusted.
"Jealous much." I teased her and she just laughed.
"Well, that's why I didn't wake you up."
"Come on, don't tell me that you ate all the food." I pouted at her because I was feeling really hungry right now.
"Sorry, fille, but it's all gone." She said using her hands to make emphasis on gone.
I wanted to flip her off but then she brought out a box of food for me, some chocolate, and a bottle of champagne.
"Alas! It's my fairy godmother." I exclaimed and we both started laughing.
"That was a good one." She told me as she tried to clean the tears from her eyes.
"Thank you, Soph." I looked at her seriously and said.
"Come on now, Claire, you know I always have your back." She said and I smiled at her.
"I know, but I'm not sure I thanked you enough for your support, I don't know how I would have handled things without you." I sniffed.
"You would have handled it well, you know why because you're strong." She said, I wanted to hug her but the pilot took that time to make an announcement.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy descent."
"What?" Sophie and I screamed in unison.
