83. The Reckoning.
🎄Season Greetings🎄
[Luke]
"How is my father?" I placed my hands at my back and looked outside of the window.
I'd been working with no rest at all after the King's illness, I barely had time to visit him as the responsibilities just kept piling on me.
Now I could understand why he hadn't been able to have a great family life and relationship with me, I was not making excuses for him though, despite being busy, I still had time to check on Claire.
Funny thing was a few more weeks had passed but her baby bump was yet to show, in all the photos I recieved, she looked healthier and she'd added considerable weight but her baby bump wasn't still visible.
She occupied my thoughts day and night and I only worked myself harder to take a break from the constant ache and pain in my heart.
Annemarie's wedding was now in just a few weeks and since my father couldn't attend, it was compulsory that I went but I couldn't stay long there because of the new responsibilities on my shoulders.
I could barely sleep without seeing Claire's face and her hurt and sad eyes plagued my mind constantly.
"He's stable." Sir Thomas sighed and I frowned.
Stable meant nothing had improved and that depressed me further.
"What if he dies?" My voice trembled as I spoke. "What if I'm the one responsible for the death of my own father?" My legs shook and I stretched my hand to grip the chair beside me as I tried to keep myself from falling.
My entire body was shaking and I could not keep the tears from spilling out of my eyes.
"Don't speak like that." Sir Thomas chided. "You need to be prepared though, if he dies, you would need to keep your foolishness aside and mature into a man, a man fit for ruling the kingdom."
"He is your best friend, don't you feel anything?" I asked him.
"I've already told you to never let another man see you like this." He said. "Your father and I knew this was coming, it was just a matter of time."
"So you've already accepted it?"
"Hmmm."
"Where is Liam, I haven't seen him around." Sir Thomas said, changing the subject.
"Ah… yes, he's currently dealing with his mother in law." I said.
"Dealing with?"
"Mother in law?"
I couldn't see the look on Sir Thomas's face but I could imagine it and it was very amusing.
"Yes." I sighed. "It would assume that we often run into trouble."
"Trouble I hope that won't affect the royal family's image."
"I'm afraid it will, the royal family's image is already tainted, why are you so bent on protecting it."
"What exactly is going on?"
"Right, Megan's mother beat her daughter to near death and caused her to miscarry Liam's child." I frowned.
It was really pitiful what the children of the rich and affluent endure, my father often got mad at me and I'd even done more despicable things than Megan has but he'd never raised his hand to me, ever and my dear 'ol mother was too kind to do that.
"Holy shit." Sir Thomas swore. "He's going to kill her, isn't he?"
"Maybe." I chuckled. "And he hasy permission."
"Of course." Sir Thomas reponded dryly. "Is there really no way to resolve this without killing anybody?"He asked.
"I'm not sure there is." I answered.
"Jail." He snapped his fingers. "Jail, we could easily send her to prison." He said.
"Death her or death in prison, sounds like the same thing to me." I muttered.
"Well, death in prison happens way too often, especially to a new inmate who was convicted of killing an unborn child." Sir Thomas said and I smirked.
"I'll speak to him."

"Where is she?" I demanded angrily as I got to the warehouse.
"She's inside, she's been drugged and tied up." The man responded.
"Very good." I smirked evilly as I thought about all the things I wanted to do to her once she woke up.
I walked into the warehouse and my anger increased as I saw her frail body passed out and tied to a chair, I wished I could pound my fists into her and make her experience more pain than she'd inflicted on my Megan, bottom line I wanted to kill her but I knew that I couldn't and it pissed me off.
"I told you I was going to make you suffer." I grabbed her face and squeezed tightly, she was still unconscious and so she wasn't responding to the pain.
"Have you set everything up?" I asked the man beside me.
"Yes, sir, she'll be here before the woman wakes up." He said, referring to the woman I'd hired to beat the shit out of Megan's mother.
The woman was an ex-heavy weight wrestling champion and since I couldn't inflict pain on her myself, I found someone that could and enjoy it.
The door open just as I was imagining her screams and blood everywhere.
"Hi, I'm I too late." The woman entered dragging an iron chiar behind her.
"No." I smirked looking at her tight grip on the chair.
I bet her punches would hurt.
"You're a respectable man, you know." She said gripping Megan's mother's hair tightly. "I can't wait for this one to wake up so that I can—"
"Make it slow and make sure it hurts but don't kill her." I said and started to leave the warehouse.
My phone rang just as I was leaving and I picked up quickly when I saw who was calling.
"What's up, brother."
"Nothing much, but have you dealt with her?" He asked.
"Would you like a picture, I'm about started." I said.
Luke was livid when he found out what Megan's mother had done to her and he had given permission to do as I wished with the woman.
"No, I want you to let her go." He said and I frowned.
"What?" I turned back and she was still unconscious, her head slumped against her chest.
"Yes, send her back home, the police will pick her up once she gets there." He said.
"But Luke, jail is not enough punishment, just let me punish her once, I will make sure that she doesn't d—"
"Misfortunes happen in prison, don't you know." He started and I raised an eyebrow. "It's not uncommon for new inmates to get beat up by fellow inmates especially one that was convicted for the killing of an unborn child."
"Yes." I smiled. "You're right."
I ended the call and walked back immediately.
"Unfortunately we have to pull the plug on this." I told them and they frowned.
"Don't tell me you've decided to forgive her, this woman is a monster." The woman frowned.
"No." I grimaced. "I'd never forgive her for what she did but I'm not going to be responsible for her and neither should any of you."
"Yeah, we know, I already said I wasn't going to kill her, maybe a few broken teeth and bones but that's all."
"Yes, boss, everything is set, we'll even drop her at the hospital once she's done." The man said.
"I Kno but I just thought of something else." I smiled evilly.
"A prison can be a very dangerous place, especially for new inmates with child related crimes."
"Are you saying what I think you're saying." The woman grinned.
"Definitely, even if she dies, it will just be another one bites the dust and it was just a prison brawl, these things happen."
"That's excellent." The woman smiled. "I have connects on the inside, I'll let them know about the job." The woman said immediately and I smiled.
"Good."
"What should we do with her in the meantime?" The man asked.
"Take her back to her house, lay her on her bed and cover her with the blankets, prepare a feast by her bedside and make sure to leave a note, I want her to know that her day of reckoning is coming." I said.
"Alright boss." He said and immediately started loosing the straps from her legs and arms.
"I'll be leaving, call me and send me a picture when it's done." I said.
I decided to go and see Megan at the hospital, she was recovering but her wounds were still healing and she was still in pain.
Megan was admitted at the royal family's hospital because of their privacy, Luke had helped to keep the incident from getting out so the people didn't know anything about her condition.
They just knew that she was taking a much deserved break from work and they were all supportive of her, especially since they thought she would be wedded to Luke in a few months.
When I got to Megan's ward, there were many police officers around and I frowned.
"Hello dear." I ignored the officers as I walked to her and gave her a peck on her bandaged forehead. "What's going on?"
"I just reported my mother to the police." She said, tears brimming in her eyes.
