Chapter 24

Are We Not Mates:
Blue, who wasn't expecting a slap, staggered a bit and when he steady himself, he looked and saw some of the student's long hallway and those from downstairs staring at them. He felt humiliated and embarrassed.
He lifted up his hand as he neared Vala to slap her back but Ruthless held his hand and pushed Blue back.
"Don't you dare lay your hands on her," he said to his brother in a low tone, "Or else I will so deal with you that you won't even believe it came from me." He threatened, bringing Vala to stand beside him.
"Did you just said that to me, bastard?"
"Yes I did Blue, touch her and believe me you won't leave here with your complete body," he said.
Blue smiled. "This isn't over yet Ruthless, you shall soon hear from me."
"Oh yes, and I know your next step is to run home to tell your mother because you can't clean up the mess you always made," Ruthless said.
"At least I have a mother, yours was a whore who didn't have any dignity at all to lay down with someone's mate. Your mother has no shame, no shame at all that's why she opened her legs widely for my father, who knows how many men she had slept with so when they rejected the pregnancy she decided to pin the pregnancy on my father, and when he rejected her she died out of shame," Blue said with total disdain, "When I am King, I shall exile you from this kingdom
Vala slowly twisted her neck to look at Ruthless's reaction, she was expecting him to react badly since Blue just insulted his mother, but instead she saw him Smiling.
"You know, you and I might be on the same page on our mothers being a whore and as for the throne, when the time comes we shall know who sits in it, though I have no interest in the throne but now, I have picked interest in it." Ruthless told him. "But fighting over a throne isn't my thing, so I will just wait until when the battle for the throne is over, but I can boldly assure you that the throne isn't yours."
Blue was livid with anger at what Ruthless just said, he knows engaging Ruthless in a fight will end up with him being disgraced, he was no match for him. He disappeared afterwards.
His gaze went to the students at the school compound and hallways who were already out of their classes and were listening to their heated conversation. He didn't need to say a word, only his gaze did the work for him and soon every student was back into their various classes except for Vala.
Ruthless finally turns to face Vala with a stony face and stares at her for a brief minute.
"Who asked you to intervene when brothers are playing?" He asked.
"If that is what you called play then I don't like such play, especially when that rough play involves my mate."
"Keep your voice down and don't allow anyone to say that."
"I know you want me to keep it a secert because I am your secret mate and you don't want anyone to know."
"On a serious note, when you see Blue and I discussing don't get involved because It is none of your business Vala."
"Shouldn't I get at least a 'Thank you' from you instead of this scolding."
"Thank you?"
"You're welcome my dear Winter," Vala said as she felt special that Ruthless's focus was only on her. "I didn't know your mother is dead, I had thought you both came from the same parents not knowing you both only share one father." She added.
"I don't want your pity chain girl and don't talk about what you don't know."
"I know how you feel to be without your mother being here backing you up just like Blue's mother is," Vala said with a sad sigh. "My mother is a prisoner." She didn't know when she blurted it out.
"A prisoner?"
"Yes," she said..the deed has already been done and now is to take the bull by its horns, "Have you seen any female prisoner around here?" Vala asked.
Ruthless was quiet as Vala awaits for his reply which wasn't forthcoming.
'Zelik was right, he told her Ruthless would ignore her question and he did.'
She thought.
"A female prisoner......I am not that sure I have seen a female prisoner here before. I haven't even been to the dungeon yet so my answer is, no."
"Anyway let's forget I spoke about that," Vala said and quickly changed the topic. "I overheard your discussion with Blue, I was so enjoying it before he slapped you. Why didn't you slap him back, even when he insulted your innocent dead mother you didn't knock out some of his teeths, if it was me, he would be toothless by now." She added.
"I don't want to fight with him because he is my brother, even though we are not related by blood," Ruthless said. "What were you doing with him at the school cafeteria?"
"Nothing, we were just eating and besides I just slapped him in front of you, doesn't that show you someth-" Vala paused. "Are you jealous?"
"Me jealous? Aha in your dreams."
"Admit it, you are jealous, isn't that what soulmates are supposed to feel or are we not mates?" Vala asked as she placed one of her palms on his cheek and the other one on his chest.
"Get your hands off him," Athena said in anger and threw a sword towards Vala.
