The Lies

“So, are you guys really spending your holidays for making love?” asked Johnny, a little curious as to what Theophile had said hours ago—about Lavelle’s pregnancy.

“Of course, that’s not true, because Lavelle isn’t pregnant,” Theophile answered Johnny’s question a little nonchalantly and focused on the melon on his small plate.

“So?”

“I said that so Lavelle could get out of the room because I’m sure she must have felt really nauseous when she saw Elder Jun drinking that blood,” Theophile explained.

“Are you crazy? They really trust you, Theo. You’re lying,” Johnny grumbled.

“Actually, impregnating a woman is not difficult, right, Bro? I just have to wait for her to recover. We could make a little drama and say Lavelle miscarried because she slipped on the stairs or because she was so weak.”

“What the hell, Theo. How could they possibly believe you if they knew you were lying?” Johnny is still nagging because he feels his younger brother is so careless and will take a big risk as the leader of Neo Greenpeace.

Theophile took a deep breath, then stuffed the whole melon slice on his small plate into his mouth, making his cheeks puff up instantly. “Gosh, don’t confuse me even more. I’m just that she's comfortable with me.”

“But not by lying to all of them,” Johnny replied.

“I admit that lying was a big mistake for a leader like me however, I did it because Lavelle didn’t dare to leave the room because she felt bad about leaving the event before it was over. I don’t know… maybe I’ll just say Lavelle miscarried in a few months or I’ll actually marry her.”

“Oh my, I just wish you the best. Don’t be like this again, please be a good leader because we all can’t be like you,” Johnny said for the umpteenth time before finally he stood up and went upstairs leaving Theophile. “Well, I will go to my room to rest… rest or please make love with Lavelle.”

“Dude, I won’t do it until she really accepts our differences,” Theophile retorted slightly.

Johnny chuckled a little but still tried to look mature among his younger brothers, climbing the stairs with wide strides leaving Theophile blushing from feeling so embarrassed and awkward down there. Theophile put down his small plate and asked some of the ladies-in-waiting to go carry the plate to the back while she was going to meet Lavelle who was in her room.

He climbed the stairs while thinking about something a little annoying to think about right now, he also thought about Martian who is now dead or maybe still alive and might hurt Lavelle for the umpteenth time.

However, what he was more worried about was that Lavelle, who had recovered, felt ostracized by Martian, who never saw Lavelle’s presence as a gift. Whatever it was, Theophile felt a little uncomfortable because he had to think twice about overdoing it in order to avenge Lavelle.

“Hi!” said Daniela who accidentally passed him at the end of the last stairs upstairs.

“Hi… do you want to come downstairs?” asked Theophile.

“Yes, I will ask Mark to accompany me to visit a city in the middle of the forest, which you call the city full of love.”

“Oh I see. Did you invite Lavelle to go there?” asked Theophile.

“Of course not because now Lavelle doesn’t feel well, I don’t know maybe this is the effect of yesterday’s rain.”

“What happened?”

Daniela shrugged her shoulders and slowly left Theophile without saying anything.

Classical music from a vinyl record played softly in the luxurious room, the dim light entered the room a little shyly. Theophile sighed as he inhaled the minty scent of the air purifier, then he went over to Lavelle who was lying on the bed with her eyes closed and her cell phone in her right hand.

“Are you really unwell? I’ll call Doctor Charlotte to take care of you or concoct some herbs so you don’t feel unwell.”

“I’m fine,” Lavelle mumbled quietly.

“I’m sorry for not hypnotizing you first so you don’t feel disgusted when the ritual is done, this is a mistake,” Theophile said then poured a little mineral water into a long glass.

“After all why did you choose a weak girl like me to be your soulmate?” asked Lavelle then.

“For the sake of the Moon Goddess, you are a strong girl and even you’re able to endure very long under pressure,” Theophile replied slightly disapprovingly of Lavelle’s self-deprecating question.

Lavelle sighed then she got up and took some medicine that was on the nightstand, and drank it a little faster. A moment later Lavelle lay back down, slowly she took Theophile’s hand and placed his hand on her right cheek.

“Don’t you feel that I really mean nothing to your life? Even you lied to everyone present at that big meeting for my sake,” Lavelle muttered.

“To hell with someone else’s trust, all I want is to protect you, baby.” Theophile interrupted.

“But….”

“Never mind, I’ve also been thinking about the continuation of this story. I could tell that you were too weak and in the end the baby miscarried.” Theophile cut Lavelle’s words back for the second time.

“What other lies are you telling?” asked Lavelle.

“Don’t worry, they will believe it. Now you just rest first and I’ll go call Doctor Charlotte."

“You don’t have to do it, I’ve taken the medicine given by Daniela. I just have a slight fever and it’s not a big problem," Lavelle said.

“Still I feel a little worried because you are my soul mate, I don’t want you to be upset so please be quiet. I will call Doctor Charlotte without your consent.”

“Why are you so stubborn, huh?”

“Because I love you.”

“Theo, I’m serious.”

“Don’t call me Theo, call me baby.”

“Why should I call you baby?”

Theophile ignored Lavelle then walked a few steps to Lavelle’s favorite big window and took out her cell phone to call Doctor Charlotte who had been devoted to the Blanc family for a very long time. Theophile called the Doctor and told him to go to the kingdom right now even though Lavelle was still trying to stop him.

“Theo….”

“Shh… lie down, don’t move because your body must be really weak.”

“I’m fine, you’re exaggerating,” Lavelle snorted.

“I’m not exaggerating, I just wish I could serve up something my soulmate really deserves,” muttered Theophile.

“Gosh, what are you doing?”
