Push And Pull

JADEN
For a moment, she stared at me with disbelief, plump lips parted. "What?" She breathed and I rose to my feet, towering above her. She was quite tall for a woman, but I was taller. Fighting against the truth was of no use anyway. I wanted to make her my Luna. Mine. It was the truth.
"Maybe? Maybe not?" She whispered and I quietly approached her, keeping my face expressionless. She gasped when I wrapped an arm around her slim waist. When she looked up at me, her gaze met mine. And just like that, her expression morphed into a seductive one as she bit her lower lip. She turned around, her back to me. Then, she rubbed her backside against me. I stiffened, mentally letting out a string of curses. She turned to look at me, a glint in her eyes.
"What were you saying again?" She whispered, her voice soft.
"Is this a part of your plan? I don't know what you're thinking and it bothers me" I said and she chuckled.
"Don't worry, I'm not plotting anything evil. I'm just having a little fun. What's life without a little sugar?" She said. The words rolled off her tongue smoothly, her gaze not leaving mine.
'Jaden, we have visitors approaching the gate' Klaus told me through the mindlink.
'Who?'
'Mathias, his Luna and Carl'
'Let them in'
"Meet me on the field by three p.m. At the moment, I have a visitor" I said and her face fell. She looked disappointed only for a second. Then, it vanished.
"Alright. I'll be waiting for you, Jaden" she said and left my office with the tray. I shook my head at the thought of things going further between us, in my office. I wondered what Matthias would say at the smell of my arousal. Stuff like that wasn't what I was willing to share.
Shortly after Rhea had left, there was a knock on the door. "Come in" I said and the door creaked open.
"Nice place you have here, Blackwood" Mathias said as he walked in with a petite blonde who had bright blue eyes. She was wearing a black dress and had a smile on her face. Mathias and I shook hands. Then, he placed an arm around the woman I assumed to be his Luna.
"Jaden, this is Stephanie, my Luna. Stephanie, meet Jaden Blackwood, my old friend" he said and I shook hands with his Luna.
Klaus walked in and greeted my visitors. We all took our seat and one of the omegas walked in with a bottle of wine and some glasses. After serving our guests, she gave me a smile which I returned.
'You can leave now, Flora. Thank you' I said through the mindlink. She left, shutting the door behind her.
"To what do I owe this sudden visit?" I asked Mathias who let out a sigh, a slight frown creasing his brows.
"Why didn't you apply for the tournament yesterday?" He asked and I took a sip of my wine.
"You know why" I said and his frown deepened.
"But...you know what your brother has been doing. Shouldn't you be fighting back?"
"I'm not interested in the throne, Matt" I told him.
"Your brother has connection with the valerian wolves, Jaden. He will certainly do everything to win. But, you're different. He can't pull you down so easily"
I rubbed my forehead, tensed. Everyone wanted me to join the tournament, but it wasn't something I wanted to do. I was satisfied with running my own pack. I didn't need to be King.
"Come on, Alpha Jaden. Think about it. If you don't join the tournament, your brother will become king. When he does, he's going to use his power and authority to make you bow to him. He might even get rid of you by hook or crook" Carl said.
My head was starting to hurt from how hard I was thinking.
"Your brother recently made a pact with a vampire clan. He's gaining grounds, Jaden. I know you want revenge, how would you get it if you decide to do nothing about it?" Matthias said, and I clenched my fists until my knuckles went white.
"He killed Sheila and you're just going to let him go free? Do you think she would be happy with that? If you do nothing about, it means you're a coward."
I was starting to get really annoyed and so was my wolf.
"You know nothing about what I plan to do. You also know nothing about what Sheila would want. So, stop talking like you actually know anything" I said, trying to keep myself calm.
"I understand. My apologies, Jaden. I just don't want you to make the wrong decision. Truth is, you're the only one strong enough to put your brother in his place. I do hope that you will think carefully about this" Matthias said, rising to his feet with a grim look on his face. When they left, I mulled over their words until I thought my head was going to explode.
There was another knock on the door. A sigh escaped my lips as I leaned back on my seat, rubbing my temples.
"Can I come in, Alpha?" Trisha asked.
"You can" I responded and she walked in.
"Long day?" She asked, a small smile playing on her lips. "I saw Mathias and his Luna leaving" she said and I closed my eyes, still rubbing my temples.
"Were they here to talk about the tournament?" She asked and I remained silent.
"You just have to listen to your instincts, Alpha" she sounded like she was approaching me. But, I was too bothered about something else, to care about that. I stiffened when I felt her hands on my shoulders.
"You are so tense" she pointed out as she began to massage my shoulders.
"Gosh, you've been thinking way too much. You need to give yourself a break, Alpha" she said.
The more she spoke, the more I felt uncomfortable with her massaging my shoulders. I couldn't take it anymore.
"Trisha" I said and she continued to massage my shoulders. "Yes?"
"Stop" I ordered and she froze. "You're not comfortable with me massaging your shoulders? But, I have been doing it before and you didn't mind it" she spoke.
"You know why you can no longer do things like that, don't you?" I said.
"But--"
"You can leave now" I stated. She couldn't refuse. She wouldn't dare. I watched her as she left my office, her shoulders slumped. She'd been there for me since Sheila died, but I've always seen her as a friend and nothing more. I hoped it was the same for her because I wasn't interested in any form of complexity, especially now that I'd found Rhea. I closed my eyes and rested my head on the desk, my mind replaying Matthias' brazen word. "
"If you do nothing about, it means you're a coward."
Mathias had a point there. I just couldn't sit back and do nothing.
I attended a few meetings with some pack members and by the time I was done, the time was past five. Thereafter, I went to the field and sure enough, Rhea was sitting there, waiting for me. I stood in front of her and she stared at me with a blank look on her face.
"I don't like being kept waiting" she rasped. I held out a hand which she took and pulled herself off the ground. Once she'd straightened to her full height, she nudged me.
"We're going now, right?" She asked and I nodded. I handed her the bag I'd brought with me.
"What's this?" She asked.
"Spare clothes" I said. She went silent. We both went out of the gate and started to make our way deeper into the woods. Without giving her a warning, I crouched low and shifted immeadietly. She let out a gasp.
"You sneaky bastard! Why didn't you tell me you were going to shift?" She said and I threw her a pointed stare as I rested on my hind legs. She looked away. She suddenly seemed awkward.
'Do I scare you?' I asked her through the mind link. She folded her arms across her chest, pushing her full breasts up. She had a big scowl on her face that didn't make her less attractive.
"How can you ask me that? Anyone would be afraid to walk beside a beast as large as you are. Don't get me wrong, I'm not scared of you" she said, looking at anywhere but at me. I was amused. She was certainly entertaining. Mother Selene knew how boring and miserable my life had been before I'd met Rhea. She must have decided to bring Rhea to me to bring color to my life.
As we walked, Rhea began to hum. Her voice sounded really nice, it was soothing.
"Where does your territory end?" She asked.
'Beyond the boulders' I responded and she nodded in understanding.
"Gosh, you're something else, Jaden. I really thought we were going to walk together and talk"
'That's technically what we're doing' I pointed out and she scoffed.
"Walking on two legs, not four legs. Talking with your mouth not with your mind" she muttered.
She had no idea why I was in wolf form. She didn't know what could be lurking in the woods. Even though we were still in my territory, some rogues were stupid enough to enter my territory, just like the one that was following us at the moment. He was keeping a good distance so far, moving so subtly, so carefully. He probably had no idea who I was. But, again, not everyone had seen me in my wolf form. I could smell the rogue strongly and my ears could pick up the slightest of his movements. I didn't want Rhea to panic. It's why I didn't tell her yet.
'So, tell me. What do you like best about being a witch?' I asked and she shrugged.
"A lot of things" she responded, a slight pout on her lips. She was cute.
...
RHEA
Jaden's wolf kept staring at me. I wondered if he was truly in control or if the wolf had a mind of his own. I wondered if he could hear my thoughts but chose not show it. Whatever the case may be, I was curious. We jumped over fallen trees and rocks.
We were in sync, it made this moment feel unreal. I wanted to savour it. I came to a halt and spread my arms in the air. He stopped and turned to look at me, his crimson gaze heated.
The cool breeze ruffled my hair, the strands of my hair making contact with my cheeks and lips. With a smile, I took a black rubber band from my wrist and made to tie up my hair. Jaden's wolf growled low in his throat.
"What? You don't like me tying up my hair?" I teased and he growled again, nose flared. It was at this point that I smelt it.
'Rogue' Crystal growled and I slowly turned to look at what Jaden was ferociously growling at. A grey wolf launched himself at me as soon as I turned and I closed my eyes, waiting for the impact of it's deadly claws.
