The Prophecy

RHEA
I stared at the woman before me, not knowing what to expect from her. She'd just said that there was a prophecy surrounding my fate. How was I supposed to react to that? Prophecies meant a lot, in the world of the witches. The last time I'd seen my mother, a seer had visited. I wanted to walk away from Ama, telling her that I didn't want to hear whatever she had to say. But, I was worried that the prophecy was a matter of life and death.
"We can't talk here. We need to talk somewhere private" the seer said and I exchanged bewildered glances with Jaden.
We both followed her to a coffee shop. She led us to the break room.
"You can sit down" she said. Jaden hesitated. He was clearly on edge.
"Don't worry, I own this coffee shop" she assured us. Jaden slowly lowered himself onto a chair, a skeptical look in his eyes.
"Your mother knew about the prophecy, Rhea. It's why she took your twin sister far away and kept her from you. But, we can't exactly fight fate. Your twin sister ended up finding her way back to you" she began as she shuffled some tarot cards. I'd seen my mother do that a couple of times, when I was younger.
Jaden who was sitting beside me was as stiff as a stone. He was being careful, I understood.
"What does this prophecy say? It can't be that bad" I finally said.
Ama smiled, her gaze resting on me.
"In twos do they come, offsprings from the light and from the dark, destined to be the opposite of each other. Strings of fate tangled around their souls will bring them together, cruelty and hate growing in their midst. Offsprings in twos, will be born, bearing powers unrivaled and unbeaten. In their hands are the pencils that might destroy or protect their world" she said.
I swallowed hard, her words repeating themselves, over and over again in the abyss of my mind.
"So, what do we about it?" I asked and she shrugged.
"You fight. Your fate has been written in the stars. All you'll have to do is fight. Fight for happiness. Fight for love. Fight for peace. It's all you can do" she said and held out the cards for me to pick. I slowly reached out and picked one of the cards. She hummed under her breath, an unreadable look in her eyes.
"Two of spades..." She breathed, her gaze resting on Jaden who was still tensed.
"It signifies conflict, Rhea. Conflicts that may arise within you. Be careful not to get swept off by this conflict. If you are not careful enough, you will lose everything you have just gained" she said and I stiffened, a lump lodging itself in my throat.
Jaden rose to his feet and brought me to my feet.
"We'll take our leave now" Jaden said and started to lead me towards the exit door.
"Be careful, Jaden. I see clouds on the horizon. Do not underestimate your brother" she said and we both exited the Coffee shop.
...
Jaden and I remained quiet until we returned to the pack house. Now that I knew about the prophecy, I kept thinking about it. I was worried. I couldn't concentrate.
"Don't let it bother you" Jaden said and I looked up at him. He was handing me a glass of orange juice. I took a sip of the juice, a sigh escaping my lips.
"I can't help it, Jaden. What else am I supposed to do? I feel like we've been cursed"
"It's a prophecy we can rewrite. We are not cursed, Rhea" Jaden responded, giving me a smile.
...
On getting to my room in the pack house, I noticed that my room felt cold. I felt around the cold wall, searching for a switch to brighten the whole place up. "Rhea"
I stiffened at the sound of the familiar voice I'd just heard. I thought my mind was my playing tricks on me.
"Yes, it's me, Sugar Plum. It's mum" she whispered. I slowly turned around, not wanting to get too excited. 'But, what if she's my mum?' I thought.
As soon as I turned around completely, I was shocked by the sight of the creature standing in front of me. It had a humanoid figure. It also had no eyes, nose or visible ears. It's mouth was large and there were fangs poking out from between his lips. I squeezed my eyes shut, sweat dampening my skin.
"Look at me, Rhea. You know you want to. It's me, mum. It's just me, sugar plum. Don't be afraid. I'm waiting for you. Let mum in" he said and goosebumps invaded my skin, a shiver running down my spine.
Mum had told me stories of this kind of creature, but I'd never encountered one until now. It was a terrifying creature. It dug deep into your mind to find the things you loved so much, the things you craved for.
"Rhea? What's wrong? Why do you look so scared?" I heard Jaden's voice. It took me a lot of strong will in order to avoid opening my eyes. I clenched my fists, my fingers digging into my palms.
Once I was sure that the creature had left, my knees buckled and I sank to the ground. I slowly opened my eyes, letting out a sigh of relief when I saw that I was alone in my room. I opened the windows, rays of golden sunlight pouring in through them. I wondered where Jaden was. I wondered if he was busy with pack business and other stuff. There was a knock on the door of my room. I cautiously walked towards it and opened it, surprised to see Haru there.
"Dana and I are going for a run, wanna come with us?" She asked and I grinned.
"Just give me a minute. I'll join you soon" I said. After changing into something more sporty, I joined them.
As we ran, Dana blew out a breath. "You seem a little bit tensed, Rhea" she pointed out. I shrugged.
"Maybe it's because I'm being paranoid. Maybe, I'm just faking it" I said and she chuckled, amused.
"Alright, alright. Let's keep running" Haru said and we increased our pace.
I smelt it first... the smell of decaying matter and the distinct smell of blood. It could mean only one thing.
Rogue Vampires.
They were close by. What I didn't understand was what they were trying to do. Had Zaden sent them to do his evil bidding?
I also wondered how they hadn't burst into flames yet. The sun was up, and had not sunk low beyond the horizon. I noticed the group of birds flying towards our direction like they were being chased.
"They are close" Dana said and in a blink of an eye, she'd undressed and shifted into a big black panther with startling green eyes.
