ZADEN
Anger boiled in my veins as I stared at my Gamma and his epsilons. They were standing in front of me with their heads bowed.
"A woman single handedly stole from my pack and I asked you to find her and bring her to me. Now, you're telling me that you failed!" I raged. "We apologise, Alpha. She had some help," my Gamma stated with his head lowered.
My frown deepened.
"What do you mean by that?"
"Two werewolves came to her rescue. Cal had subdued her, but an invisible creature ripped him apart."
"Which pack do the werewolves belong to?" I asked Aaron who was the Gamma of my pack.
"They are a considerably small pack which is headed by Klaus," he responded. I was surprised by this.
"Klaus, Jaden's former Beta is heading a pack? Why don't I know about this?" I demanded.
"The pack consists of only ten pack members and they are weak. Besides, Klaus has never attended the meeting of Alphas with the Alpha king because his pack has less than fifteen members," he explained.
"This doesn't make a lot of sense, Aaron. Klaus and his pack members should know that you and your epsilons belong to my pack. Despite this, they attacked you guys in the course of protecting the thief. The woman must mean something to Klaus if he was willing to risk causing a war between our packs," I said and Aaron nodded.
"The rest of you should leave, you all will be punished accordingly," I said to the epsilons. They were warriors under Aaron's command. They echoed a 'Yes, alpha'. Then, they all left. I turned to look at my Gamma who looked remorseful.
"I apologise, Alpha. We will do better, next time," he said.
"There won't be a next time, Aaron. You're going to take me to Klaus and his pack. He's going to pay for the damage he has done. We also need to figure out what invisible creature murdered Cal in order to protect the thief. Bring the witch in," I said and Aaron left my study quickly. When he returned, he brought the witch to me.
She knelt in front of me, her messy red hair covering her face. Her t-shirt was torn and her jeans trousers was dusty and worn out. She had a black eye and a cut on her lip. She had attacked one of my pack members and had nearly killed her. The only reason she was still alive was because I knew she would be useful to us someday.
"Bring her outside," I said and left my study. Once we were outside, I asked my Beta to bring Cal's corpse to me. Cal's corpse was placed in front of the witch. She looked away and started to cry hysterically.
"Look at him!" I growled and she shook her head frantically. Then, she threw up on the side. I grabbed her by the hair, my claws making contact with the skin of her throat.
"Do you want to die?" I demanded and she frantically shook her head, more tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Now, look at him!" I growled and she shakily turned to look at Cal's broken body.
"His name is Callum Winston. Someone did this to him and I need to know who he is," I said and she squeezed her eyes shut briefly. When she opened them again, she was silently crying.
"Who killed him?! I need you to find out," I stated and she nodded her head slowly.
A few minutes later, she had lit some red candles with shaky hands and had drawn some sigils on the ground, using a blood stained knife. I watched her as she closed her eyes and began to mumble a spell. She did it seven times and I waited impatiently. I didn't care about whatever rituals or spells she was making, all I needed to know was the name of Cal's killer. He'd been one of my best elite wolves and I wasn't going to spare whoever had torn him apart, so brutally.
The witch suddenly let out a cry and scrambled away from Cal's body.
"Who is it?" I demanded and she shook her head frantically.
"I couldn't see him. All I could see was his aura! He's a rare creature. His aura was blinding!"
...
RHEA
Once Jaden and I arrived at the house, he practically dragged me to his study and made me sit on a chair, directly opposite him. I huffed in annoyance and folded my arms across my chest, glaring at him.
"Why did you bring me in here?" I demanded and he stared at me with an unfathomable expression on his face.
"What do you do for a living?" He asked, not taking his eyes off me. I was startled by his sudden question.
"I don't see why any of that is your business, Mr Blackwood," I responded, glaring at him as hard as I could.
"For how long have you been stealing from people?" He questioned and I glared at him, irritated by his second question.
"What's it to you, anyway?"
"Is Rhea Stone even your real name?" He probed further and I looked away.
"What is this? A Q&A session?" I muttered and he gave me a pointed look.
"The werewolves that attacked you....did you steal from their pack?" He pressed further and I rose to my feet, my temper flaring.
"Sit down, Rhea," he commanded, his voice thick with authority and command. Scowling at him, I slowly lowered myself onto the chair.
"While you remain here, you should learn to keep your hands to yourself."
"And if I don't? Will you punish me?" I retorted and he gave me a chilly smile that caught me off guard.
"I might consider doing that, if that's what it's going to take to tame your wild fingers," he stated.
My stomach growled and I let out a sigh.
"I'm hungry. Can I at least have some food if I'm going to have to stay in your house?" I said and he rose to his feet.
"You can go and get yourself some food. If you try to run again, you know it's going to be a waste of time" he told me. I rose to my feet and walked towards the door.
"You're so arrogant," I said to him. A dark smile curved his lips. "You don't know the half of it," he responded and I faked a shudder just before leaving his study.
...
I was unable to sleep that night. I tossed and turned on my bed, my thoughts threatening to swallow me whole. Was this my new normal? Would Jaden end up accepting me as his Luna? Would that mean that I would head his pack alongside him? I shook my head, trying to ward off these thoughts. But, it didn't help. I finally sat up in bed and stared at the ceiling.
Letting out a sigh, I got out of bed and stared out the window, gazing at the bright full moon. Despite the fact that I'd refused to return to Jaden earlier, a part of me liked the fact that he'd come back for me. I didn't know what would've happened if he hadn't shown up. Besides, those wolves had been aggressive as hell.
A shiver ran down my spine when I thought about the fact that Jaden had actually murdered a werewolf for my sake. I didn't know much about werewolves, but I knew that the alpha of the werewolf who'd been killed would certainly not sit back and do nothing about it. I was worried that I might've put Jaden's pack in trouble. But, it wasn't entirely my fault. They had come to my aid because Jaden had asked them to.
I left my room and started to head downstairs. The door to Jaden's study was shut. I noticed the last door on my left. It was half opened and the light was on.
Curious, I made my way towards the room. Once I quietly pushed the door open, I was greeted by the sexy sight of Jaden doing push ups.
He was shirtless and his large biceps were on full display. If he sensed my presence, he didn't show it. His lightly tanned skin was damp with sweat. On the top right corner of his back was a tattoo of a pair of large fangs. His back muscles flexed at every movement and it made my inner Belle squeal. I mean, who doesn't admire sexy men?
'Our mate is a sight for sore eyes,' my wolf purred and for once, I couldn't argue.
When he finally rose to his feet, my gaze fell on the scar on his stomach. It looked like something that had hurt a lot. He turned away from me and grabbed a white towel.
"You do this every night," I pointed out and he ignored me. "Come on, you're not about to start the silent game, are you?" I asked and he opened the door to what seemed to be a bathroom.
"Go to sleep, woman. It's late," he said and walked into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him. I rolled my eyes and went back to my room. If Jaden wanted to play the silent game, so be it.
I managed to fall asleep and I ended up dreaming about some sexy time with Mr Sexy. Don't blame me, I'm a full grown woman and I might have deep desires.
Some time later, I was awoken by Jaden's voice, thanks to my sensitive ears. I rose to my feet and slowly opened the door of my room by a crack.
"What do you mean?" He said as he slipped on a black long sleeved shirt. There was no one in the sitting room with him. I figured he was communicating with someone in his pack through their mindlink.
'Everyone, stay calm. I'll be there in a few minutes' he stated and I stiffened. He bent over his boots to tie his laces, a blank expression on his face.
'I don't care, Klaus. He tried to kill me several years ago. But, that doesn't mean I'm afraid of him. He was my brother. But, he's lost that title. I don't regret killing Cal. I would do it over and over again if I could' he said and straightened. He looked towards my room.
'I know you're there. Stay indoors and don't follow me' he said to me, through the mindlink. Before I could blink, he was gone.
