The Arrest

RHEA
I froze, my blood running cold in my veins. It couldn't be possible. Jaden would never do such a thing, why would they accuse him like that?
"It has to be a mistake. Jaden would never do something like that" I said and Jaden gave my hand a gentle squeeze.
"I suggest you come with us willingly, or things will get worse for you. Murdering an Alpha King is a serious offence" Agent Romero said and my eyes went wide. I couldn't believe it. I pinched myself to see if I was in a bad dream. The sting I felt assured me that what was unfolding right in front of me, was very much real.
"Jaden, say something. Damn it. Tell them you didn't do it" I urged but my mate remained silent.
'Don't panic, Rhea. Just keep calm. Whether I didn't do it or not, they wouldn't listen to whatever we have to say' Jaden said telepathically, and my heart shattered.
I watched with disbelief as Agent Blinks placed a pair of handcuffs around Jaden's wrist and locked them in place.
"No" I breathed, shocked.
Haru and Dana watched with wide eyes.
"I'm coming with you" I said. The agents didn't argue. We all got into their black Jeep. Then, Agent Romero started to drive. It was a long, tension filled drive. None of us said a word but I felt distressed. I had no idea how to handle the fact that my mate had just been arrested.
By the time we got to the city, night had fallen.
'We're good to be okay' Jaden assured me through the mindlink.
...
They took Jaden in for questioning while I waited in the lobby of the building. I tapped my foot on the ground, anxiously. The tik tok sounds coming from the clock was riling me up. I was so close to losing it.
I hoped that Jaden's interrogators wouldn't resort to violate methods. I knew Jaden could heal faster. But, he could feel pain just like everyone else. The only difference was that the pain fades faster than normal.
My phone rang and I picked the call.
"Klaus?" I breathed.
"Are they questioning him?" He asked.
"Yes. I'll be there soon. I'm on my way" he said.
"Okay."
The line went dead.
Few minutes later, an agent approached me and led me into a room. I sat down on one of the chairs. Jaden was sitting opposite me. The only thing keeping us from each other, was the transparent glass between us. I picked up the telephone and brought it to my ear while Jaden watched me.
"They didn't hurt you, did they?" I said.
"They didn't. They asked me a few questions. But, that was it" he said and I swallowed hard.
"Jaden, what are we going to do? I'm running out of ideas. Infact, I don't know what to do. You can't remain in their custody" I said.
"They told me there's a witness" he said. My eyes went wide, my heart sinking into my stomach.
"N...no. That's not possible. You were with me. You didn't do it" I said with a shaky voice, my hands were trembling as well.
"Listen to me. This is all a part of Zaden's plan to make sure I miss the coronation which is in seven days. So, I need you to do something for me" he said and I leaned forward, holding my hand to the glass.
"Just tell me. I'll do it"
He placed a hand on the glass, his gaze soft.
'I want you to go with Klaus to Denver City. You have to find a man who goes by the name, 'Daniel Hall'. He's an old friend of mine. Tell him everything. He'll know what to do. He's the CEO at Halls Law Firm. Tell Klaus about this. He knows where you can find Daniel' Jaden said telepathically and I nodded.
"Be strong for me, okay? Tell Darryl and Haru to take care of the pack. Tell them not to worry, I'll be okay" he said and tears filled my eyes.
"I'll get you out of there, I promise. I'm going to make Zaden pay for everything he's done" I said out loud, and he gave me a smile.
"I know, I trust you" he breathed.
"Time's up" the agent who'd brought me to the room, said as he walked in.
...
JADEN
In the questioning room, I sat with my hands still handcuffed. It was the second time I was entering this room. The first time, they hadn't asked me much questions and they'd told me about the fact that they had a witness.
The door opened and three men, all dressed in black, walked in. The first one stopped in front of the table, his hostile gaze directly pinned on me.
"I've heard a lot of unpleasant stories about you, Jaden Blackwood. You might think that just because you're a demon wolf, you can't be tamed. We don't care if you're faster or stronger. You are a murderer and we're going to do to you, the same thing we do to murderers" he said.
"You want to torture me to give you an answer you won't accept. I told you, I didn't kill him. He was dying anyway. What would I have gained from killing him?" I said.
He snarled at me, eyed flashing with impatience.
"Cut the crap, Blackwood! We told you we have a witness. Don't you wonder who this witness is?" He asked.
I thought about it. Who would do such a thing? I was prepared to commit murder for real. I knew this was all Zaden's doing. The bastard had set me up.
"Who is it, then? Tell him to come in here and say it to my face" I said.
The man standing directly in front of me, signalled one of the men standing behind him. He walked to the door and opened it.
"Hello, Blackwood"
I was shocked speechless. It was the person I least expected. The last person on my mind. I could only stare because for the third time in my life, I'd been betrayed by someone whom I thought was on my side.
"Hunter" I said through gritted teeth. My claws were already making their way out of my fingers. One tug at the handcuff would send it breaking apart.
"Yes, it was me who told them. I'm the witness. What are you going to do about that?" He said with a taunting smile on his face.
"You called me. You're the one who told me that the Alpha King was dead. Why are you doing this?"
He shrugged.
"Maybe I realized that someone as monstrous as you are, doesn't deserve to be King. I saw you for what you are. I could've saved the king from your hands. But, I was afraid that you were going to kill me too. So, I informed the Valerian wolves. I made them catch you off guard" he said. I was trembling now, I was so close to exploding.
"You should be afraid, Hunter. You should really be afraid" I growled.
"Too bad you're going to spend the rest of your life rotting away. Let's face it, you're an abomination. A disgusting creature that isn't supposed to walk the face of the Earth. Prepare for what is to come, Blackwood" he said and walked towards the door. Ripping him apart sounded like a good idea at this point. But, I knew they would use it against me. I didn't want to worsen the situation for myself and Rhea. So, I reined in my wolf.
"Tell us, how did you kill him?" One of my interrogators asked, but I remained silent, unyielding.
"You won't say anything?" the tallest of the three men demanded. I kept my gaze fixed to the wall. Annoyed by this, he punched me in the face, hard enough to leave a nasty bruise behind. My head snapped back and I bit the inside of my cheek. Blood filled my mouth and I spat it out, on the floor. The pain faded after a few seconds.
"What the..."
They were probably surprised to see how fast I could heal.
"Oh, I see. You heal quickly. That makes it even more fun" the man who'd been interrogating me finally said. He walked to the corner of the room and grabbed three bats. He gave the other two men, one bat each. Then, they came closer to me. Tarus growled.
I wasn't afraid. They could break my body and inflict pain on me, but it wouldn't make any difference. I was still not going to tell them what they wanted to hear. It was a shame they were all cowards like my brother.

They descended on me like hungry vultures descending on a carcass. They hit me anywhere they could. I bled, my blood staining the bats. They broke the chair I was sitting on, sending me crashing to the ground. They broke my nose so many times, I lost count of it. My shoulders got dislocated and my ribs were shattered. If I was an ordinary wolf, I would've died from the blood loss. When they had done enough, they stopped. My bone was jutting out of the skin of my left arm. My face was covered in blood and I was struggling to breathe. My ears were ringing and my vision was blurred. I watched them leave the questioning room and close the door behind them. Then, I passed out.

I gained consciousness a few minutes later. The pain was gone and I was fully healed. But, I was covered in blood.
Clenching my jaw, I sat up on the floor, resting my back against the wall.
"He's not giving in. He's not confessing to anything" I heard them say.
"Make him talk. Torture him"
"He heals quickly. I've never seen anything like it"

"You have to make him talk. Do whatever you can. Time is running out. We need him to admit it. Only then is our work done"
"Alright sir. I'll go in to see him"
"He passed out, sir. We were really brutal and he lost a lot of blood"
"Then, I'll return tomorrow. I'll make him talk" the unfamiliar voice said.
I clenched my fists as I stared at the wall, darkly. They could try all they wanted. But, I would never give in. Zaden was desperate. It was why he was resorting to extreme means. I hoped Rhea would be able to locate Daniel soon.
