Tip Of The Iceberg
JADEN
She was beautiful even as a wolf. Her fur was the color of snow, bright and unrivaled. She was larger than Thalia's wolf and her aura was stronger. Her blue and green eyes complemented her beauty. I felt so lucky to have her as my mate. Mine.
She approached me, her movements slow and graceful. She paused in front of me and curled up around me. No words were spoken. We were content, at peace.
After a while, we both shifted back into our human forms and slipped on our clothes. We silently made our way back to the pack house, our fingers entwined. I had finally moved on from Sheila and I hoped she'd moved on too.
...
"I want to come with you" Rhea said to me two days later. She had resumed her duties as the Luna. The pack members were quickly warming up to her. They were coming to see her most of the time.
I raised a brow at her.
"You want to go to the tournament with me?" I asked.
"Yes. I have a feeling that someone is going to try to mess things up. It's what my instincts are relaying to me" she explained.
She was braiding her hair herself as she gazed at her reflection in the mirror. I parted my lips to try to convince her not to.
"You're not about to say no, are you? You know I won't listen to you" she said, giving me a sly grin.
There was something I noticed about her. Ever since she had her first shift, her finesse had shifted to a whole different level entirely. Sometimes it was entertaining, other times, I found it weird. She had alpha genes in her, I found it interesting. She could be stubborn at times and that's what makes Rhea unique. There's no dull moment around her.
"I have a feeling that you're actually going there for war" I said and her famous glint appeared in her eyes. She gazed up at me and gave me a kiss, her hand cupping the back of my head. When she pulled away, she rolled her shoulders.
"It's just in case someone decides to make terrible decisions today" she shrugged and picked up her red lipstick.
"I met Rain yesterday, do you know her?" She asked after applying her lipstick.
"Darryl's mate?"
"You do know all of your pack members" she said and I shrugged.
"It's not that easy"
"She told me that Darryl turned her. Do werewolves do that with a bite?" She asked.
"Not exactly. Darryl is a special kind of werewolf"
"Right" she said with a nod.
...
When we got to the venue of the tournament, Matthias noticed us first. He approached us with his Luna. "Who is she? Is she your mate?" He asked after we'd exchanged handshakes.
"This is Rhea, my Luna" I said and he grinned.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Rhea. My name is Mathias, Jaden's friend" he said as he shook hands with her.
Mathias introduced his Luna to Rhea and they embraced briefly.
"You look so much like Alpha Thalia" Stephanie pointed out.
"She's my mother's other daughter" Rhea replied and Stephanie nodded, a slight frown on her face.
"Zaden and Thalia has been getting really close as of recent" She said and I raised a brow.
"I guess they are birds of the same feathers after all" Rhea said with an irritated look on her face. We all settled down and from the corner of my eyes, I noticed Zaden and Thalia having a conversation by the corner.
They were whispering, but I could hear them loud and clear. My ears has always been that sensitive.
"So, you are the goddess who is my mate" Zaden said and Rhea stiffened beside me.
'Did you hear that?' I asked through the mindlink.
'Yes, I did. This must be some sort of joke. Is the universe playing tricks on us?' she said. I didn't know if it was merely a coincidence. But, I had a feeling that something was up.
'We seem to want the same thing' Zaden spoke and Rhea glanced at me, an unreadable expression on her face.
'So?'
'It means that one of us has to back out of the tournament and that person, is you" Zaden said and Rhea rolled her eyes.
'Why would I do that?" Thalia asked.
'Because you should'
They both went silent and Rhea tapped her right foot on the ground, continuously. She was tensed.
'I want you to do something for me' Zaden said and Thalia chuckled.
'What makes you think that I'm going to do what you want me to do?' Thalia asked, a teasing tone in her voice.
'You don't have much of a choice, Thalia'
'I'm an Alpha too, you know. I can just reject you'
'That's one of the reasons why I like you' he said and Rhea wrinkled her nose in disgust.
'You know my twin brother, don't you?' Zaden said and I clenched my fists.
'I want you to cast a spell on him' He continued.
'I've tried it before. My spells doesn't working on him' She told him.
'Then, use your magic on his Beta and Gamma. Put confusion among them' Zaden said and my fists tightened.
'Why? In what way will that help us?'
'You'll see'
A smirk curved Rhea's lips, her gaze locking with mine.
The royal beta made his way to the podium.
"Welcome to round two of the Alpha Tournament. In this round, ten contestants will participate with their Betas and Gammas."
I furrowed my brows, realizing that Zaden had known what was going to happen, before hand.
"In this round, each team will be given two pieces of silver, molded in the shape of an egg. The task is to safeguard your own silver eggs and claim the eggs of your opponents. Each Beta and Gamma will be the ones to hold the eggs and the Alpha will defend his team. You have five minutes" the royal betas said.
The crowd cheered in response.
"The first set of competitors are Alpha Jaden Blackwood and Alpha Dylan. Please step into the arena with your Betas and Gammas."
'Are you ready, boys?' I asked Klaus and Darryl telepathically.
They responded with a, "Yes, Alpha".
Good thing I'd trained my pack members to always be ready for anything.
Alpha Darryl and his team stepped out and stood opposite my team. Two royal attendants handed Klaus and Darryl the molded silver eggs. After Alpha Dylan's team had received their eggs. The whistle went off. Dylan snarled at me and pounced, his fist missing my jaw by a few inches.
When he attacked again, I drove my fists into his guts, knocking the air out of his lungs. With Dylan down, Darryl and Klaus attacked Dylan's Beta and Gamma. My wolf picked up Thalia's magic, but before it could settle, Rhea's magic had overpowered it. There was no time to waste and Dylan wouldn't stay down. It was a ridiculous sight. I held Dylan by the neck, pressing his face to the ground.
From the corner of my eye, I watched Darryl tackle Dylan's Gamma to the ground, putting him in a choke hold until the egg slipped from his hand. Klaus on the other hand, had just knocked out Darryl's Beta and in his hand were two silver eggs. We had spent three minutes and twenty eight seconds.
"Congratulations, Alpha Jaden. You have made it to the final round" the royal beta said and the crowd cheered.
I met Rhea's gaze. She had a smile on her face as she blew me a kiss. She waved at Darryl and Klaus who waved back at her.
"You guys did great" she said when we got to her.
At the end of this round, only five of us made it. Thalia lost by a thin margin. Her team managed to get the eggs but she was two minutes late. The king gave me a handshake.
"The rounds might seem easy, but there are a lot of things being considered. You're doing well, Alpha Jaden. Keep up the good work" he commented and left.
"Why is she coming towards us?" Rhea suddenly said. I turned to look at Thalia who was approaching us with fire in her eyes. Zaden was trying to catch up with her as she made her way towards us. She stopped in front of Rhea, a menacing look in her grey eyes. Without warning, she slapped Rhea on the face, hard.
"It was you, wasn't it? You're the one who disrupted my magic, aren't you?!" Thalia demanded and Rhea responded by giving her a punch in the face that was definitely going to give Thalia, a black eye.
"Yes, it was me. What are you going to do about it, loser" Rhea drawled. Thalia made to attack her again but Zaden held her back.
"This is not over yet! It is far from over!" She growled and Rhea rolled her eyes, looking unimpressed.
"I'll destroy you, I promise!" Thalia growled, her eyes flashing with anger.
"Destroy me? Ha! You can try" Rhea said.
Zaden stared at me with hate in his eyes.
"It's not over yet, Jaden. It's not over"
With that, he walked away, dragging Thalia along. Rhea blew out a breath, an annoyed look on her face.
"If they want a war, we're going to have to bring it to them in such a way that they won't know what hit them" Rhea said, her voice tinged with fiery annoyance.
"Rhea Stone of the Raven Clan?"
Rhea and I turned to look at the woman who was now standing in front of us. She seemed to be older than fifty. She was wearing a long black dress, her hair cut low. Her blue eyes were dilated and she had long fingernails painted black.
"Who are you?" Rhea asked, a slight frown on her face.
"My name is Ama. I'm a seer" she said and my frown deepened.
"What do you want?" Rhea asked and the woman exhaled slowly.
"We need to talk. It's about the prophecy surrounding your fate" she spoke.
...
UNKNOWN
My eyes widened as the blue pearl bracelet lying on my dresser burst open. I knew what it meant. Rhea had finally mated with her wolf and activated the magic in her blood. I picked up the ruined pearls, my lips set in a grim line. I knew I had to stop her. She didn't deserve to get so much powers. I wouldn't let her pass it on to her children either. Such power belonged only to me and my children. I was going to find her and take what belonged to me. But, I decided not to spare her life either. She'd escaped death the first time, but not this time. I was going to make sure I ended her.
