CHANGES ARE GOOD
**AURORA'S POV**
"ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?" I wince before glaring at Parker who is looking at me like I am some alien.
"Can you talk any louder?" I exclaim.
"Okay, I am sorry. But how can you think that after learning such a big thing, I will be able to keep calm?" He retorts dramatically.
"This is not a big thing. I shouldn't have told you about it." I reply folding my hands in front of my chest.
"Boss, are you out of your mind? You are going on a date with the Nicholas Moretti and you are saying it's not a big thing." He says while feigning to faint making me roll my eyes.
"Okay fine it's a big thing, now can you shut up and bake the cookies?" I ask extra sweetly.
"Of course I can bake but you have to promise me that you will tell me everything about this date." He replies.
"And why will I be doing that?" I ask in confusion.
"Because I have a right to know as your favorite worker." He answers making me chuckle.
"You are a weird creature." I retort before going out of the kitchen to give the donuts to the waiting customer.
I hand the box to the little girl who has come here with her mommy. I also give her a fruit pastilles candy which she has been eyeing for some minutes. After paying for the donuts the mother-daughter duo leave making me sigh. I want that too but alas, I don't think I am lucky in this matter.
I do not want to hurt my feelings by thinking about my condition but whenever I see a child, I get very angry with myself. No matter how much success I get, the sorrow of not being able to become a mother will never allow me to move forward in life.
That's why I never thought of any relationship after divorce. But no matter how hard I try, Nicholas won't give up on me. That's why I will tell him everything in the beginning itself. I don't want him to expect me to do something that I won't be able to fulfill.
Anyway, he is a friend of Matthew, so he may also know that Matthew's first wife had cheated on him. Like everyone else, he must have thought that it was the woman's fault. That's why I myself will tell him everything so that later I don't have to hear that I have hidden the truth.
"Aiden, stop running." I hear so I look up to see that the little boy is running inside the bakery while Arthur is chasing the boy.
"I am here, pretty lady." Aiden says while wrapping his hands on my waist making me giggle.
"What a pleasant surprise, bud. I am so happy to see you here. But you shouldn't have run so fast." I reply while bending down to kiss the top of his head.
"Daddy was taking sooooo long to park the car so I decided to come by myself." The little boy replies with a huff.
"How are you, Aurora?" Arthur asks coming to stand in front of me.
"I am doing good. What about you?" I ask with a smile.
"I would have said good but with this naughty boy you can't get rest." He replies while playfully glaring at his son.
"I am not naughty, right pretty lady?" I nod my head trying not to laugh at the boy who is giving me a puppy-eyed look.
"Well, I need your help." Arthur says with hesitation.
"Why are you sounding so hesitant?" I ask while running my hands through Aiden's hair.
"I have to go to an urgent meeting Rosewood Sand Hill but Aiden does not want to be alone in the house with his nanny. So I thought if you can keep him here for some time then it will be of great help to me." He explains.
"This is such a simple help and you are telling me as if you are asking me for moon or stars. Don't worry, I'll take care of Aiden until you get back from your meeting." I reply with an assuring smile.
"Thank you so much for the help." He replies looking relieved before crouching down to his son's level to hug him.
"Son don't bother your aunty at all. You were insisting on coming here so I brought you here but remember this is not a place to play. If you behave like a good boy, I'll take you fishing on Sunday." I smile seeing the way Arthur talks to his son. It's not wrong to say that he is doing a great job in raising the little boy all alone.
"I promise daddy that I will not disturb the pretty lady at all." Aiden replies wrapping his little hands around his father's neck.
True to his words, Aiden doesn't bother me at all. He keeps playing with Skittles all the time in my office. I give him some freshly baked Snickerdoodle cookies with a glass of milk which he eats like a champ.
Currently, I am taking an order of birthday cake which needs to be delivered tomorrow. If this is not for my regular customer I wouldn't have taken the order because it's not easy to make a three tiers cake in hurry.
Suddenly, the bell chimes so I look towards the door to see that Jacob is walking inside the bakery while holding two pizza boxes in his hands. I round the counter before taking the boxes from his hands and put them on a nearby table which is not occupied by any customer.
"Missed you a lot, big sis." He says before engulfing in a hug.
'Me too Jac." I mumble while petting his back.
"How are you now?" He asks looking at me from head to toe.
"I am absolutely alright and before you ask, yes I am taking the medicines on time as well as eating three meals a day." I tell him.
"That's good to know. By the way, it's nearly your lunch break so I have brought pizzas." He replies just as Claire comes to me to say something but stops when her eyes fall on Jacob.
"Hello, how are you?" She asks Jacob with a red tint on her cheeks.
"I am good." Jacob replies curtly and I know why.
Claire has been crushing on Jacob since the moment she saw him for the first time but Jacob never returned the feelings. I have tried my best to let Claire know that she shouldn't waste her time on someone who is not interested in her. But she is not ready to listen to me.
"Big sis I will be in your office. When you're done here please come inside so that we can have lunch together." Jacob says without sparing any glance at Claire who looks hurt by the negligence.
I nod my head in response before calling out to Parker who comes out of the kitchen. I give him one box of the pizza and tell him to share it with Claire before following behind Jacob who is already walking towards my office.
When we get inside, Aiden looks at me with a smile but then his face contour in confusion seeing Jacob. I put the pizza box on the desk and pick up Skittles in my arms before going towards the corner where she eats. I put some pre-made chicken and vegetable stew for her which she starts eating in no time.
Just as I stand up I feel two little hands wrap themselves around my waist and by the way he is hiding his face in my stomach, I know that the little boy is scared seeing an unknown man.
"Who is this, big sis?" Jacob asks with a frown on his face.
"Bud, why don't you introduce yourself?" I ask Aiden who looks at me with hesitation in his eyes but I give him an assuring smile making him relax.
"I am Aiden Silva and I am six years old." Aiden says while looking at Jacob whose eyes widen for some reason but he quickly composes himself.
"It's nice to meet you, Aiden. I am Jacob Adams." Jacob let out trying to sound cheerful but something about his tone telling me that he is not okay.
"You are very big like my daddy." Aiden says aloud making me chuckle. Yes, Jacob is very tall and muscular. This is a great reason why girls or boys are so crazy about him.
"Thanks for the compliment little man. Why don't you come here and eat a slice of pizza because it's lunchtime." Jacob replies showing Aiden the pizza box.
"Yeah! I get to eat pizza after so long." Aiden says enthusiastically and walks towards Jacob who gives him a big slice of pizza on a plate.
"How do you know him?" Jacob asks looking at the little boy who is now sitting beside Skittles and enjoying the pizza slice.
"His father, Arthur is my customer. I went to their place at a party and that's when I met the little boy." I reply taking a bite of my pizza.
"Oh," Jacob says still looking at Aiden with an unknown emotion in his eyes.
What's the matter with him? Why does it feel like he is hiding something from me?
"Are you alright, Jac?" I ask worriedly but he only shakes his head giving me a smile that I know is fake.
"Handsome man can I have another slice, please?" Aiden asks standing in front of Jacob with his now empty plate. Just as I am going to give him a slice from my plate, Jacob put his own slice in Aiden's plate which shocks me because this is the first time I have seen him sharing his pizza with someone else.
There's something wrong that Jacob isn't telling me. But I am also not going to sit silent, I will definitely find out what is the matter that my brother is hiding from me.
"I want to tell you something. But please promise me you won't freak out." I tell Jacob in a hush voice not wanting the little boy to hear anything unappreciate.
"What's that?" He asks raising an eyebrow at me.
"Nicholas has asked me to go on a date with him and I have said yes." I let out biting my lip in anticipation of his reaction. However, he completely takes me off guard by giving me a big smile.
"You are not angry with me?" I ask in confusion.
"Why am I going to be angry with you? Whatever decision you have taken is absolutely right. It's your life and how to live it totally depends on you. I don't know what kind of person Nicholas is, but yes I do know that if you have told him yes, then there must be something good in him." He says making me sigh.
"I denied him many times but he is not ready to listen to me. Anyway, he saved my life so that's all I can do for him. I have told him very well that I do not want any relationship, so he should not have any hope for me." I reply playing with my fingers.
"Do what you feel is right, but keep one thing in mind that not all men are like Matthew. Give someone a chance to come into your heart because you deserve to be happy." He lets out before going towards Aiden who is now drawing on a piece of paper.
