Chapter 32: She's Mine

Dax POV

I was glad that I came when I did. There was the man that I had seen weeks ago at the store that Danica had been to. I distinctly remembered him, as he was with the women who had flirted with me.

I didn’t like seeing the two of them having lunch together. I had to put a stop to this before he made any advances on Danica. No way was I letting anyone lay a finger on her.

Danica seemed absolutely shocked to see me. Her eyes were wide and she seemed struck speechless. The man beside her turned towards me and had an unreadable expression.

Everyone in the café turned to watch me, but I was beyond caring. My rage was burning inside of me and wouldn’t be contained.

I only found out where she was by accident. As I happened to be walking by, I noticed Danica had come into this café. I was curious as to who she was meeting, so I decided to come in.

In her eyes, there was a pleading of “don’t do anything.” I wouldn’t be able to comply, since I had to take care of her unwanted companion.

I glanced away from her and went back to staring at the guy. He seemed unaffected by my presence and almost had an amused expression on his face. Wasn’t he scared of my presence? This wasn’t some friendly visit. I wanted to make him leave.

“You shouldn’t be here with her.”

He bitterly laughed and looked over at Danica. The guy turned to face me and asked, “Why can’t I be with her? Are you two dating or something?”

I couldn’t believe he dared to mock me like that. This prick wasn’t even taking me seriously.

Danica spoke up and said, “No, we aren't. Please go Dax. I can take care of him.”

“Who is this man? I didn’t want you going out of the mansion to meet up with random men,” I angrily stated.

Danica shook her head and was infuriated as she spoke, “I can’t believe you think he’s some random man.” She added, “This is my ex, Jason.”

Her ex? Something about him gave me a bad vibe. I wasn’t going to let her stay with her ex. He had intentions for her that made me even angrier.

Jason smirked and said, “Not an ex for long. We’re going to get back together.”

That got on my last nerve. He shouldn’t have said that.

“You’re lying. I can see it in your eyes.”

“I’m not. Danica still has feelings for me. I can tell.”

Danica was about to speak but Jason cut her off. “It’s exactly why she agreed to come to this date with me. Why else would she agree?”

He needed to stop talking or I’d hit him. This Jason was acting way too smug and irritated me greatly.

“She’d never go out with someone like you. You abandoned her.” I added, “Why would she go back to such an a**hole?”

I didn’t want to admit it but I was madly jealous. Jason was trying to get back Danica when he clearly didn’t deserve her. He seemed like an absolute scumbag.

It was too late to get her back. She didn’t need to be with someone as smug as him.

Jason stood up and moved the chair away before getting in my face. “What did you just say?”

“I said you’re an a**hole. Danica shouldn’t be with someone like you.” I added, “You don’t deserve to be around her.”

Danica POV

I couldn’t believe this was actually happening. Two men were fighting over me, though it hadn’t gotten physical yet.

Why hadn’t he just listened to me earlier? He should’ve just left. Other customers were looking at our table and waiting for a fist fight. This was so embarrassing.

They needed to act like grown men not middle school boys. I wanted to disappear because of their behavior.

I had never seen Dax so jealous before. But I knew it wasn’t for a reason I secretly wanted it to be. He was only thinking of the baby after all. I bet he didn’t care about me that way.

Flashes of him ending our kiss came back to me. No way was a man like that interested in me. They had an intense stare down to each other and Jason grinned in a knowing way.

“Are you afraid I’ll take her away from you?”

Dax shook his head and said, “We’re not together. Shut your mouth before my fist does.”

“Tough words. Bet you can’t carry them out.”

Dax suddenly gripped Jason’s shirt and asked, “Are you sure about that?”

“Go ahead. I’d love to see you try to fight me.”

“That’s it.”

Dax had his fist clenched at his side. Jason gave a knowing smile back. Before Dax could harm Jason, I knew I had to step in.

I walked over to Dax’s side and looked over at Jason. “Fighting with each other won’t solve anything. You two should both cool off and grow up.” I added, “I’m not some prize to be won. Just stop it.”

Jason said, “I’m sorry Danica. I normally don’t get so violent.”

“Save it, Jason.”

Jason asked, “Could we at least finish lunch?”

“I won’t let that happen,” Dax sternly warned.

He took my hand in his and led me out of the café in a hurry. I tried to escape his grasp but couldn’t, and Dax urged me to get into his car. Dax still looked angry. He backed out of the parking space and sped off for the mansion as if he couldn't get us away soon enough.
