Chapter 33: You're Mine

Danica POV

Dax tried to talk to me on the way back to the house. “Danica, let me explain.”

Why would I let him do that? He’d just make things worse I was sure. I couldn’t keep dealing with his ridiculous behavior. He had ruined my opportunity to cut ties to Jason. I was about to tell him we were done seeing each other ever again.

“No, I don’t want to hear it. What you did back there wasn’t okay. I’m really p*ssed at you,” I answered back.

“You shouldn’t be. I helped you get away from that creep.” Dax added, “Didn’t you hear the way he talked about you? He acted like you were his.”

I scoffed and said, “Sounds like someone else I know.”

“You can’t possibly be implying that I treat you that way. I’m only trying to keep you safe.”

Jason hadn’t done anything bad. Dax only wanted me for himself for some strange reason. I should’ve been kept safe from the likes of him.

I shook my head and said, “Just stop trying to act like you’re my hero. I can handle myself with an ex.”

Dax got quiet but gave one last glance towards me. It was very icy and made me shiver.

I had never seen him give me such a look. He was really ticked off at me this time. I was only telling him to back off. Dax was too involved with my life.

I really hoped we wouldn’t get back to the mansion too quickly. I wasn’t ready to have more of a lecture back there. Dax didn’t seem even close to being done talking to me.

As we got closer to returning, Dax seemed to be getting colder with his expression.

When we got to the garage, he parked, turned the car off, and got out of the car quickly. He came over to the other side and was looking at me with impatience. I remained where I was but only unbuckled my seat belt. I even turned away from his stare.

Dax had enough and opened my door, “Danica, I don’t have time for this. Come into the mansion with me now.”

“I won’t until you stop being so controlling.”

Dax’s face softened for a split second and he said, “Please come in with me. I think we should talk this over.”

“Fine.”

I got out of the car slowly and followed him into the mansion. Immediately, Dax motioned for the one maid to leave the room. She left in a hurry and then it was just Dax and me. Shortly after, I tried to head up to my room, but Dax grabbed my wrist and looked at me.

“Where do you think you’re going? I said we have to talk.”

“Maybe I don’t want to talk to you.”

Dax let go of my wrist and groaned loudly.

“I just want to explain myself but you’re being so stubborn.”

I sighed and said, “Okay. Tell me why you almost attacked Jason then. This ought to be good.”

I sat down on a chair. Dax sat in the chair closest to me and looked me in the eyes. “You’re living in my house. I don’t like you going out to see strange men. He had no right to be with you.”

“Why do you have to be this way? You can’t control who I see.”

“I want you to only be around me. You shouldn’t be around any other men. I don’t like it.”

Oh my God. He was going too far. Why was he doing this? He wasn’t my boyfriend or husband. He shouldn't have been acting like this.

He was starting to p*ss me off again. I hoped he would just drop this whole lecture.

“I can’t believe you’re being this way, Dax.”

Dax kept looking at me and said, “I just don’t want something bad happening to you. I care about your well-being and don’t trust other men’s intentions towards you. You’re mine.

That softened me. Maybe he really did love me. Why else would he call me his? That was actually really sweet.

Maybe I was wrong about what he did earlier. I liked how he cared about me like this.

But then Dax spoke again and said, “I’m glad I got there when I did and protected the child.”

Dax POV

“Excuse me?” Don’t tell me you took me away from there because of the baby.”

Her face looked betrayed and hurt. It was not my intention to hurt her, but I had to tell her the truth. She had a right to know, and I wouldn’t hide anything from her.

“Yes, I had to.”

“Why?”

Couldn’t she just understand how I was protecting her? I wanted her to understand where I was coming for. She hardly ever let me explain before she got mad at me.

I wondered what had happened to us. Our vacation felt like ages ago. Now we were back to butting heads. I didn’t like yelling at her for careless mistakes but needed to.

“It wasn’t safe for the child to have been in such a situation. You were endangering the child by being with a strange man.” I added, “What if he had tried to make advances towards you?”

Danica narrowed her eyes at me and ran a hand through her hair in an annoyed way.

“God. Dax is that all you think I am? Am I just a baby vessel? Am I not even a person to you?”

How could she say that to me? Of course, I thought of her as a person. But she had been so reckless with going out with a man like that.

“Don’t be ridiculous, Danica. That’s not what I think of you as,” I told her.

She got quiet for a few seconds and I waited. Maybe she would cool off if I let her alone for a moment.

After she looked a little cooled down, I said, “Can you hear my side of this?”

“Fine,” Danica said in a flat tone.

“This child is so important to me. But the child is also essential for my company. One day this child will take over the company and continue my legacy.” I added, “This child has be kept perfectly safe, so I have a suitable heir.”

“You’re heartless," Danica spitefully said.
