Chapter 45: The Mission
Dax POV
I tried to figure out the location of the gangster’s hideout for a few hours before I made a breakthrough. There had been rumors about suspicious activity happening at this abandoned facility.
A few people had said they had seen some shady looking people around that area within the past few months. All of the accounts from eyewitnesses seemed believable. I had to go with my gut feeling that this was their location.
Besides, it was in a location that not many people knew about. Where else would they hiding out in? They couldn’t be found by the police.
I met up with the security team shortly after discovering this information and shared it with them. I also told them information they should know, “Everyone must keep on high alert when we arrive at the location. These are dangerous individuals we’ll be facing.”
We got into separate vehicles and headed out towards the facility. As I drove along, I was getting more anxious about Danica’s wellbeing. What if they had been neglecting her health? I couldn’t bear the thought of her being sick again.
I knew they wouldn’t care about a hostage. I’d make sure to take care of her after she was safely back at the mansion. I wouldn’t let them get away with treating her so poorly.
When we were a block away from the location, I parked near a store. We couldn’t alert them of our arrival, or they’d make a run for it. I didn’t want them getting away from us so easily. I was personally going to make sure they all went down.
Truthfully, I hadn’t had much training for a situation like this. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, and these criminals would be armed. I was prepared to endure all kinds of danger in order to save Danica. I would do anything for her without questioning.
I got out of the car and quietly walked to the building. The others were going to follow me shortly after I entered. I touched the holster attached to my belt for reassurance. Hopefully, I wouldn’t have to use the gun. In all my years, I had never had to use it on anyone.
I only had it for emergency use at the mansion. Never had I imagined that I would actually need it.
Right away, I saw a grungy looking man standing in the middle of the hall. He yelled to another guy, “There’s an intruder. Go tell the boss now.”
His accomplice ran off. This wasn’t quite going to plan. So much for my surprise rescue.
The man kept his eyes on me and pulled out a gun. He aimed at me and fired. I narrowly dodged the bullet and sprinted towards him with my gun raised towards his arm.
He kept trying to fire at me, so I kept on avoiding being hit by any of the bullets. When his guard was down, I fired at his shoulder. He dropped his gun and held his wound with his other hand while letting out an obscenity.
I made sure he was going to stay down before moving on. We couldn’t waste too much time fighting off these people. I didn’t know how long we had to save Danica.
A few of my security team slowly came into the building. I cautiously kept moving onward and was on the lookout for more trouble.
We had no idea how many guards were here. I was sure we were outnumbered, but we had to get the situation under control.
Two more men came running out of a room. They started shooting at us, and some bullets ricocheted off the walls. It was getting harder to avoid getting struck by them. My people had bullet proof vests on, but we weren’t completely safe.
Someone on our side cried out in pain as he was hit in his shoulder. It was hard to know that my own security team were going to be injured or worse during this. I had to keep pushing through, despite knowing that.
I couldn’t fail Danica either. This mission had to be successful for her benefit. I wasn’t going to let this go downhill.
I kept moving forward and came across another person. He looked younger and more agile than me, but I wasn't
going to lose. I would get through any obstacle that came my way and not let anyone stop me.
He swung at me with his fist while I barely avoided being punched. I kicked his stomach and sent him sprawling to the ground. The man struggled to get back up and lunged at me, causing me to tumble to the floor.
We started exchanging punches. I tried to overpower him and started pounding his face. Blood ran down his busted lip. After I knocked the guy out, I got up and ran forward.
I hoped I was getting closer to where Danica was being kept. This was a very large facility with many corridors throughout it. She could have been anywhere.
Eventually I came across a room that was locked. D*mn. Where would I find a key in this place? It could have been anywhere. I didn’t have time to search the whole area.
Another man came towards me and tried to tackle me to the ground. I avoided letting him take me down and roughly grasped his shirt. I said, “Tell me where the key is to this room.”
“Never.”
I started beating him up and shortly after, he revealed, “Fine. The boss has the key.”
“Where is this boss of yours?”
“He’s in the office room after you make another left and right.”
I released him from my grip and sprinted towards the room. I had lost all of my company, so I’d have to do this on my own.
I barged into the office and saw a man in a pinstriped suit. He gave me a look full of disappointment and said, “I wasn’t expecting you to show up. Where’s the woman who owes me money?”
“She sent me instead.”
“Do you have my money? That woman is almost out of time. I’m getting very impatient.”
I shook my head and he grimaced at me. In seconds, he pulled out a gun and started moving towards me until he was a few feet away.
I took out my gun and aimed it towards him. He looked amused and kept his weapon aimed on me.
That’s when he shot me in the arm. It caused me to drop my weapon, and I saw red start to build up around that area.
The gangster pointed his gun at my forehead and sheer terror coursed through my body.
