Chapter 44: I Will Get Her
Dax POV
After I set the ransom note down, I felt an immense rage come over me. This whole situation was terrible and shouldn’t have come to this. Danica was in danger because of this gigantic mistake on their end.
I wished this had all been a nightmare. The woman that I deeply cared about was gone. She must’ve been absolutely terrified. It was too hard to imagine her in such a situation. The thought of her captors made me feel sick.
They could do unspeakable things to her. I needed to stop myself from thinking of anyone harming her. It would make me even more enraged. There was nothing I could do yet. I wasn’t sure of the location of where she was being kept.
Those people would pay once I figured out where they were hiding. They wouldn’t know what was coming their way. I had to take them by surprise or else this would all fail.
I knew I had to get to her and rescue her before it was too late. I almost lost Danica once and wouldn’t lose her for good. She was the only woman I ever felt so attached to. We had just started to get a better relationship, and I didn’t want it to be over.
I had felt things with her that I hadn’t in a long time. Danica had awakened a part of myself that had been locked away for so long. She had really changed me for the better. I didn’t want to lose how she made me be. There were things left unsaid between us that still needed resolved.
I should’ve been informed of this situation in the beginning. Danica shouldn’t have kept something this important from me. I had a chance to keep her from getting stress. She could have had been protected the whole time and not gotten involved in this mess.
Her life wouldn’t have been in danger if I had the debt taken care of immediately. I was upset at myself that she had been taken. I never wanted anyone to harm her. This person wasn’t going to get away with hurting Danica.
I would make sure that this guy knew that he shouldn’t have been messing with me. He would regret ever snatching Danica away. If I saw that b*stard, I would make him meet my fists.
Suddenly, I knew who else to blame for this. Lola hadn’t informed me of what was happening either. Who knows how long Danica had been hiding this from me? I felt like I had been left out of the loop and shouldn’t have been.
I turned towards Lola and angrily stated, “You never told me about this debt. It is your fault that Danica has been kidnapped. How could you be so stupid?” I added, “Danica could die because of you.”
Lola seemed stricken and tried to speak up, “But…I didn’t mean to…”
I cut her off and said, “Don’t you dare try to explain yourself. You know this wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t gotten Danica involved. She could have been safe and sound here.”
“Dax, please don’t blame me,” Lola started getting teary eyed as she spoke.
I shook my head and said, “Don’t deny your part in this. It’s useless.”
At least she had come here with the ransom note instead of handling it herself. I doubted she could’ve come up with more money on her own. She didn’t seem to have much money like her sister.
How had she been so stupid to get involved with the mob? A woman her age knew better than that. I couldn’t believe Lola had dragged her sister into this. I understood they were family, but this was too risky.
Not wanting to waste any more time, an idea came to mind. I gathered all of my security staff around and held a meeting. They all looked at me expectantly.
“I have plans to rescue Danica. I will lead the team that saves her. We’ll go as soon as we can. We can’t waste a lot of time to get her back here. This is life or death on the line men.”
They all nodded in acknowledgment and waited for me to say something else. I told them, “We’ll discuss more details in a couple minutes. I want to make sure we prepare for the danger ahead.”
Seconds later, Lola came up to me with tears in her eyes, “Thank you so much. Please bring my sister back. I never wanted this to happen.”
“I will make sure to do that. We’re not losing Danica. I won’t let that happen.”
She looked at me gratefully and gave a slight smile. I walked away from her to finish off the meeting about my plan of rescue with the others.
After I finished going over the plan to the team, I began my own research. I had to find the location where Danica was held. Time was slowly slipping away, and I had to track down Danica before I lost her forever.
