Chapter 46: She's Safe

Dax POV

Sweat started to drip down my forehead as he kept his gun locked on me. He gave a sinister grin at me.

I stood my ground and wasn’t going to go down like a coward. I narrowed my eyes at him and showed him that I wasn’t afraid.

Was this really the end? My mission was going to be in vain. I had been so close to saving Danica. It would be all for nothing if I died. But I was out of luck, since no one else was around to help me out.

Suddenly, there was a shot fired from the doorway. When I looked over, one of my security team members was there. He must’ve have been quietly following me the whole time. The gangster gripped his leg and went to the ground.

He deserved getting shot. My heart wouldn’t stop beating. That man had almost killed me. It had been one of the most terrifying moments of my life. I was glad that it hadn’t been my final moment.

I turned to the staff and said, “Thanks for saving my life. I won’t ever forget this.”

He gave a nod of acknowledgment and kept an eye on the hallway. Hopefully none of the gangster’s lackies would be informed of their boss being attacked. We didn’t need a horde of people coming after us.

I made my way over to the gangster and hovered over him while starting to hit him in the face. After hitting him for a while, I said, “Give me the key for the room where you’re keeping Danica.”

He tried to play dumb and asked, “Who is this person you’re speaking of?”

“Cut the bulls*it. Tell me where she is or else.”

I pulled my gun out and rested it on his forehead. He started to look unsettled and said, “Fine. I’ll give you the key.”

He pulled a key from the pocket of his suit and handed it to me. I took it from the man and left him lying there. The police would take care of him later as I would make sure to tell them about this location.

I got off of him and rushed towards the room that she was being kept in. I hoped that she was okay. I doubted that she would be in good shape but needed to stay positive.

I quickly unlocked the door and went over to Danica. She looked very uncomfortable in a metal chair. There was rope around her wrists and ankles. I untied the tight restraints and noticed she had red marks from struggling.

She had tried to get free in vain. It made my blood boil that she had been imprisoned like this. I wanted to end the gangster who had done this to her. But I knew that wouldn’t do anything to help.

I was grateful that Danica wasn’t too hurt overall. That had been my biggest worry when I found out about her
situation. I was sure she had some pain that was below the surface. Being taken like this was draining on someone in other ways.

I carefully got her off the chair and helped her stand up. I wrapped my arms around her and held her close to me. She needed to be comforted after this horrific experience.

Danica was absolutely shaken and had a look of fear to her eyes still. She felt cold in my arms, and I wanted to warm her up with my embrace.

I gave gentle kisses on her cheek and lips before softly talking to her. I told her, “You’re okay now, Danica. Everything is fine now. You’re going home.”

She didn’t say anything back to me but was listening to my words. I think my voice was giving her comfort.

Danica POV

“It’s all over. You won’t have to see this place ever again,” Dax told me.

I was way too disoriented to respond to him, but was starting to become comforted by his presence and words. I couldn’t believe that he was actually here.

I had wished for him to show up, but never thought he would find me. It was some sort of miracle that this occurred.

Dax continued to hold me in his arms and gave me a few more gentle kisses. I thought I almost saw the beginning of tears forming in his eyes. He was so relieved at seeing me.

I had never needed his touch more than this moment. I wanted to cherish it and not let it end. He was so warm and comfortable to be embraced by. I realized in that moment how much I had missed him.

He suddenly said, “I was so worried that I was going to lose you. I did everything I could to get you back.” He kissed my forehead and added, “I don’t ever want you to go through this again. I’m going to keep you safe.”

I gave a weak smile at his words. I knew that I was finally safe, because Dax had come for me. He had risked his life to rescue me.

A few seconds later, he let me go and turned to face me. “Are you ready to go back home?”

I nodded in answer and Dax led me to the exit door of the facility.

I wanted to forget about my abduction. However, I knew that I would never forget Dax's rescue and would be forever grateful to him.

When we got into his familiar car, I felt relieved and didn’t look back as he drove back home.
