Chapter 20 Caught Out By My Beta’s
Colin's POV:
Coming to this upscale restaurant was my prank; I wanted to force her to reveal her true identity. When she began to pretend that she could afford to eat here, I felt like my actions were rather mean.
I only ordered a plate of truffle pasta, probably because the money I brought wasn't much. She pretended not to be hungry, hoping to leave all the food for me—an utterly foolish girl.
I divided the pasta between us, and just then, my phone vibrated. It was a message from Kevin.
Calmly looking around, sure enough, I spotted Kevin not far away, giving me a sly smile with Dennis at his side, both struggling to stifle their chuckles.
"I'm going to the restroom." I said in a casual tone, nodded to her, standing to walk towards the restaurant's corridor corner.
As soon as Kevin saw me, he couldn't hold back and burst into laughter, "What kind of intimate game are you two playing here? Sharing a plate of truffle pasta, heads close together, taking turns with each bite.”
“Alpha Colin, I didn't realize you were such a romantic!" I shot him a glare, and Kevin pressed his lips together, silently.
"Alpha, don't blame him for speaking out! I myself am quite surprised too," Dennis chuckled lightly, "It seems you're not doing too badly these days?"
My expression inevitably darkened. Dennis was always composed, and wouldn't ask such questions, without reason. I understood Dennis's implication; the Rock pack was concerned I might get comfortable here with her and forget to return to the Rock pack, to my true identity.
"I'm just staying here temporarily," I answered coolly, "It's nothing more than sharing a living space, nothing good or bad about it. One day, I will leave this place."
Dennis smiled without saying much more. Kevin glanced my way with a sly grin before turning back to playfully curry favor. “Alpha Colin, maybe I can comp your bill later? All of this belongs to you, it'd seem rather unsuitable to charge you.”
Colin arched an eyebrow, pondering for a moment, “No need for a free pass, just give us a discount. Otherwise, I won’t be able to enjoy my meal with peace of mind.”
“Yeah, that sounds reasonable,” Kevin, learning his lesson, took Alpha Colin’s word as law. “I’ll let them know!”
As we were talking, I suddenly remembered how unhappy Claire looked, when she came home today and gave Kevin a command.
“Look into Rainbow Trade Company for me, find out what’s their story. Also, there's a department manager named Sarah... get me her information!” Kevin was completely baffled.
The Rock pack had some industry in New Jesery, but they weren’t powerful enough to obtain information on every small company, especially one as minor as a green bean. With his identity, snooping around would unnecessarily draw attention.
If it ended up like last time with Mike, where a misunderstanding arose, Kevin cleared his throat awkwardly and offered a strained smile.
“Alpha Colin, I can investigate, but let me be blunt. If during this, rumors start flying about me being in cahoots with anyone, you must not believe it, alright?”
Before he could finish, Dennis whacked Kevin on the head, “Alpha Colin’s words are commands.”
