Chapter 32 Daring to Insult My Husband, The Consequences Get Even Worse

Claire's POV

I led Bob into the meeting room.

Those who had gathered outside Sarah’s doorway, each wore an expression of malicious glee.

"Sarah just wanted Mr. Morgan to call Claire’s ring a piece of green glass, but who knew she'd actually be wearing a real Siberian pink diamond! And in the end, took the client with her too!" someone chuckled softly.

"Pff, that's like trying to steal a chicken but losing the rice instead!"

"Ha ha..."

Frozen in place, Sarah's mind went blank, her body trembling with anger. She strode over, slammed the door shut with a bang that echoed through the air.

People outside dispersed, but the laughter still resonated throughout the office. Everyone had long been fed up with Sarah's arrogant behavior, but since her uncle was a major shareholder, they had swallowed their grievances. Today, seeing her in such a sorry state, they all felt a secret satisfaction.

...

After dropping Bob off at the company's entrance, I smiled, bid him farewell, and gently touched the ring on my finger.

Is it really a genuine Siberian pink diamond?

I smiled, and with the smile, two dimples appeared on my cheeks as if encapsulating all the sweetness in the world.

Thinking about it, it seemed my luck had been much better since marrying Colin. Orders were signed one after another, and at every critical moment, Colin was there to help me out...

With a long sigh of relief, I realized it was almost time to get off work, and I planned to make a delicious dinner for my husband tonight.

But then, I turned around to meet Sarah's crimson eyes.

"Sarah."

I greeted her coolly, preparing to head upstairs, but then I heard her sneering voice from behind.

"Hah, a Siberian pink diamond! I wonder which corner you stole that from?"

I whirled around to face her, "What did you say?"

"I said, for someone who's been to jail, what haven't you done?" Sarah continued her tirade, "You really do have some nerve! You and your husband make quite a pair, one steals objects, the other steals hearts. A perfect match made in heaven!"

My lips tightened; my face paled.

With a sneer, she glanced upwards deliberately. The surveillance camera's red light was on, recording everything that was happening here.

In fact, she was quite smart; every time she provoked me, she did it under surveillance, knowing that no matter how outrageous her words, I wouldn't retaliate physically as long as I maintained a shred of rationality.

If I lashed out, I would be out of this company for good!
"Claire," Sarah eyed my ring, "Being poor is not shameful, but stealing is inexcusable! You're a nice girl, why marry that kind of man?"

"Oh, I get it, men who've been locked up for a while... they have particularly strong desires, right? Heh, is he really that good, really satisfies you?"

I inhaled deeply; this time I wasn't going to take it lying down. I looked at Sarah and asked softly, "Sarah, can't we have a proper conversation?"

Seeing my compliant look, some of the anger in Sarah's heart subsided. Was I submitting to her? She thought I finally had some sense of self-awareness.

"Sarah," I said softly, "this deal with Mr. Morgan is yours; I won't compete with you for it. After it's done, I'll give you my entire commission, so it counts towards your numbers. Is that acceptable?"

Sarah huffed a little, "At least you know what's good for you!"

"Can we talk somewhere else, then? It's too busy here, and there are some things I'd rather not say in public."

She agreed, and we walked around the company building to a secluded, open space behind it.

I glanced around; a small grove of trees provided a hidden spot, no one was passing by, and more importantly, there were no cameras. She had already picked out this perfect "spot" for our talk.

"Get to the point!" she still had that imperious air about her. "I need to leave early today!"

I bowed my head silently. As the air grew strange and Sarah was about to press further, she was suddenly met with a slap across her face! It cracked loudly, nearly scorching her cheek with pain.

She was stunned, too shocked to react, and then I forcefully delivered a second slap. Staggering, she fell to the ground, sitting abruptly.

"What...what are you doing?" she cried out, holding her cheeks, terror in her eyes.

I stared at her coldly, devoid of my typically soft and docile demeanor—it was as if I was clad in armor.

Furious, I yanked Sarah up by her collar, my hand raised for a third slap. Sarah screamed, instinctively closing her eyes and covering her head.
My hand paused mid-air.

"The first slap was for the insult you gave me!"

"The second was for the slander against my husband!"

"And this third one…"

"Stop, if you dare to slap me again, I will…" Sarah didn't finish her plea before a crisp slap cut her off.

"The third one was a warning!" I pronounced each word distinctly. "Speak of my husband again, and it will be worse! Don't think I won't retaliate. I'm giving you some respect by not doing this in public. If you dare to spread rumors again, I'll make sure everyone sees how your face swells up!"

"We can both walk away from the company, and you can tell the world I hit you. Hah! I don't fear the consequences of my actions. But if you push me to the brink, you'll bear the outcome!"
