Chapter 45 Where's Tonight's Banquet?
Claire's POV
Progress on the project had been stalled these past few days, Anne and I couldn't even get through the doors of the Brown Group.
Anne was feeling deflated, squatting by the roadside with a face full of distress. The sun was scorching the earth, the heat was making people flustered and irritable.
I handed her a bottle of water and said with a gentle smile, "Let's find somewhere to have lunch first, and we can try again in the afternoon."
"Claire, it's no use," Anne said with a tone of defeat. "It seems Peter wasn't lying; the market here at Rock pack is just too tough to crack. We've been here for days, and we haven't even gotten a glimpse of Kevin, let alone meet with any minor manager from the Brown Group!"
"I think we should just go back.” Anne pouted, "At this rate, who knows how long we’ll have to wait!"
"Don't be so negative!" I was optimistic. "You've been in sales for two years; you should know that business doesn’t happen all at once. As long as there's a slight chance that we can hand in our sales proposal, we will have taken a huge step forward!"
"But where's the chance?" she lamented.
No sooner had Anne finished complaining when a black luxury car slowly drove toward the internal road in front of the building. A dozen security guards instantly perked up and ran to greet whoever was arriving.
A young man stepped out of the car, sporting the looks of a movie star and the proud bearing of someone from a distinguished family.
Anne recognized him at once, her excitement palpable as she repeatedly tapped my arm.
“That’s Kevin!” Anne’s eyes sparkled, “Wow, he’s even more handsome in person than in photos, truly dashing, and he’s so stylish... Ha, it seems Peter didn’t lie to us on that point!”
I glanced at her, somewhat helplessly. I wasn’t as starstruck as Anne, but I couldn’t afford to miss this opportunity!
If I could just hand my proposal directly to Kevin, it would be more effective than a hundred appointments.
I clenched my teeth and made a dash for it!
However, a group of towering security guards immediately blocked my path. Accustomed to young girls crazily vying for their idol's attention, they mistook me for just another female fan throwing herself at their Alpha.
They swiftly formed a human wall, cutting me off completely.
“Gentlemen, I have important business with Kevin...”
“Miss, everyone who comes for Kevin says that!”
“No, you don’t understand!” I protested, my face flushing with urgency, “I have a sales proposal, it won’t take up much of his time, just five minutes... even three will do. If he doesn’t want to look at it, I can explain it to him!”
The security guards exchanged winks and, working in unison, each took one of my arms and escorted me away from the internal path.
Then they suddenly let go, and I nearly tumbled head over heels. Anne rushed to help me up, arguing heatedly with the guards.
“Ladies, please, no more of these tricks!” The guards were exasperated, “That tactic is outdated, can't you come up with something fresh?”
“Girls these days, just dreaming of marrying rich Alpha Colin for a shortcut to the top!” one scoffed.
“Ha, ladies, if you truly aspire to wed into wealth, there’s the Morris family’s Luna selection tonight. The whole banquet will be crawling with rich young heirs from the Rock pack, and our Alpha Colin will be there too. You two wouldn’t want to miss that, right?”
“Hey, can they even get in? Haha...”
Stunned, I limped after them and inquired, “Sir, where is the banquet tonight?”
The guards looked at me with a mixture of resignation and scorn.
“At the Eternal Star Hotel! Heh, young lady, try your best!”
Ignoring their mockery, I took careful note of the hotel’s name.
I gripped the sales proposal in my hand. Although I didn’t understand their references to Luna and Alpha, meeting Kevin would give me a chance.
Third POV:
Kevin thought he heard some commotion behind him, and on impulse, he looked back just before entering the building.
That glance was ill-advised; he froze on the spot, his mind going blank.
“What... what just happened?”
“It appeared those two girls wanted to meet you,” his assistant whispered, “but the security turned them away.”
Kevin’s eyes widened and a chill crept up his spine, his hair standing on end.
He immediately took out his phone and called Colin.
"Alpha Colin, Claire has come to Rock pack. Ha, but I don't know why she's looking for me... So, should I meet her or not?"
