Chapter 50 Is something wrong?
Claire's POV
I spent the whole day staring at the computer, not typing a single word of the sales report. Even when Anne called out to me, it took me a while to snap out of it.
"What's the matter with you?" Anne asked, packing up her bag and looking at me, "It's time to go home, and you're still sitting here!"
I was somewhat dazed, then suddenly looked up, noticing that the office was indeed empty, except for myself and Anne.
Anne, too, had turned off her computer, preparing to leave.
“I’ve noticed you haven’t been yourself lately,” she asked with concern. “Is something going on? Did you have a fight with your husband?”
“No,” I forced a smile. “Just a little misunderstanding.”
“If it's just a misunderstanding, why not clear it up?” Anne laughed. “My mom always says that a little bickering between spouses actually strengthens the relationship. There’s nothing a good night’s sleep can’t fix for a young couple!”
I paused, slightly embarrassed and let out an awkward laugh.
Having kept my virginity till now even after marriage, I thought, how could sleeping resolve anything? And suddenly it clicked. Was Colin's harsh words the other day due to this? It would be hard for any man to endure being untouched by his wife for so long.
He must have doubted me, bringing up topics like 'Alpha' or 'reaching the skies in one step' without any context.
I bit my lip, a twinge of guilt washing over me, clearing away days of disappointment and self-pity.
I realized I had a part to play in this as well, for not fulfilling my duties as a wife.
Perhaps tonight I should...
My cheeks flushed and my heart raced. Just as I was about to leave work, I saw Peter heading my way.
“I need you to stay back for a moment!”
