Chapter 52 Kevin’s behavior

Claire's POV

"Don't you think Kevin is behaving oddly?"

"Come on, what's so odd about it!" Peter retorted dismissively. "Isn't that just how men act around beautiful women?"
"That may be true... but the way Kevin's acting, it's more like he's seen a ghost rather than just a pretty woman!"

Peter almost burst out laughing. He covered his mouth, glancing around with sly eyes, and whispered to Jayden, "Mr. Simmons, everything is arranged. The room is located at..."

My heart raced, and I quietly moved closer to eavesdrop.

The hotel in question was at a distance, on the outskirts of the city. At night, it was so quiet you wouldn't even see a ghost.

Fists clenched; I felt a surge of anger in my chest.
Peter's smile was sinister, "That place is so secluded, screaming my head off would be of no use! Ha, once Kevin has had his fun and he's happy, he’ll sign anything!"

"By the way, Mr. Simmons, I've already set up a camera in that room... If Kevin tries to deny anything, we'll just release the video!"

"You little devil!" Jayden pointed at him with a laugh, "You really know how to handle things! Though it’s a bit uncomfortable for me."

"What else are beautiful women good for? They're just for show in bed!"

"Ha, after this is all over, I'll find an opportunity to move the sales director away and you'll take over his position."

At that, Peter straightened up immediately, being highly respectful to Jayden. I was hidden behind a pillar, taking in short, sharp breaths, teeth itching with hatred.

Struggling against the discomfort from the alcohol, I tried to stay sober, but the vile words of Peter and Jayden kept echoing before me. My fists were clenched tight, nails digging into my skin, body shaking uncontrollably.

Evil can be dealt with slowly, but the pressing need was to escape this predicament.

I calmed myself down, turned on the GPS on my phone, and messaged Colin to keep track of my location at all times and to come pick me up quickly.

I got anxious when I didn’t receive a reply, and just as I was about to call, Peter came looking for me.

I had no choice but to follow him back to the private room.

Jayden and Peter redoubled their efforts to ply me with drinks, and despite my best efforts, I ended up drinking quite a bit.

Kevin was trying to intercept the drinks for me, but he couldn’t make it too obvious. He could only watch me drink glass after glass, calculating when he could safely take me home himself.

The end of the drinking party was a relief; my head pounded as I followed a few men out.

"Tonight was a real blast!" Jayden, his eyes suddenly gleaming, smiled slyly and whispered to Kevin: "You really can't miss the special show we have planned next!"

Kevin, out of the loop, looked utterly puzzled. Peter suddenly yanked me over and pushed me at Kevin!
Kevin jumped in surprise!

My face burned red, and my legs felt as flimsy as if I were stepping on cotton.

Just as Kevin steadied me by placing his hand on my shoulder, he jerked back like he'd been electrocuted, and then looked over at Jayden and Peter, "What... what's this about?"

"Kevin," Peter grinned, "Claire's had too much to drink. Mind taking her home?"

"Oh," Kevin steadied himself, "even if you didn't ask, I would have."

Peter and Jayden exchanged a look of satisfaction at Kevin's response. They quickly opened the car door, gave the driver the address, and watched Kevin lead me away.

"...Where are we going?" In the car, I struggled to sit up.

My head buzzed with what seemed like thousands of bees, alcohol burned at the back of my throat, and my stomach was in turmoil. It was extremely uncomfortable.

But when I focused, I realized Kevin was sitting beside me! My heart hammered, and I immediately moved away, watching him warily with wide eyes.

"Where are you taking me?"

As I asked, my small hand felt for the strap of my backpack, quietly unbuckling it.
