Chapter 53 Touch me again, and we'll both be destroyed
Claire's POV
"Miss Watson, don't panic." Kevin kept his distance, "I'm just trying to get you home."
I glanced outside – this wasn't the way home!
In truth, Kevin was aware of Jayden and Peter's scheme. Right after leaving the hotel, he needed to pretend to go along with it and couldn't take me straight home, so he took a slightly longer route.
But I didn't know that!
I looked even more vigilant and my body trembled slightly. The strap was now undone, and I clenched it tightly in my hand.
Flashing through my mind were images from self-defense techniques for women I had seen. I tried to stay calm and think: in this narrow space, including the driver, there were three of us, and besides me, the other two were strong men.
I couldn't confront them directly. But I was sitting right behind the driver...
I pursed my lips and kept my eyes wide, carefully watching Kevin's next move.
Colin's POV
Leaving the clubhouse, I finally checked my phone.
Blake whispered, "To avoid Wesley's suspicion, I have to rush back to the Rock pack tonight. Sir, your..."
"Go take care of your business," Colin's eyes narrowed slightly, "act as if nothing happened."
Blake nodded, took a cautious scan of the surroundings, and disappeared into the night.
I pulled out the documents Blake had just shown him, tore them up swiftly, and tossed them into a nearby trash can.
They were records of the dubious financial dealings of the Morris family that Wesley had collected over the years.
Such material, once reviewed, had to be destroyed immediately—no trace could be left behind.
Taking a deep breath, I was about to head home when he abruptly felt his phone vibrate multiple times in his pocket.
I pulled it out and looked at it; there was an unfamiliar message signed with the name Anne. That seemed to be the name of a colleague of Claire's.
I then remembered that during their last business trip, following company protocol, employees were required to provide the company and their partner with an emergency contact for unforeseen circumstances.
Anne must have obtained my phone number then.
My expression darkened instantly, a cold glint flickering in my eyes as I quickly opened my phone's location tracking system to find Claire's whereabouts.
Third-person POV
"Miss Watson, you really have nothing to fear! I'm not a bad guy!" Kevin waved his hands frantically, his face turning a bright red in his urgency.
He just wanted to ensure that she arrived home safely, but the young woman looked at him as if he were an enemy, her whole-body tense with spikes of suspicion.
"Don't come any closer!" Claire shrieked, causing a shocked Kevin to sober up considerably.
He hadn't been trying to approach her; it was Claire herself who had plastered against the car door. Thankfully Colin wasn't there, Kevin thought, if he had heard her scream, whether he'd live to see tomorrow's sun was a question mark.
"Miss Watson, you... please, don't get agitated," stammered Kevin, forcing a smile.
"I wouldn't dare get close to you. Why don't you scoot over a bit, and I'll stick to the car door, okay? It's not safe for you like this..."
As he said this, he yelled at the driver, "Can't you drive slower?"
The driver, taken aback and panicking, floored the accelerator instead! The car suddenly sped up, causing Claire to lose her balance and fall onto Kevin.
With a look of sheer panic, Kevin immediately raised his hands, "Ah! I didn’t touch you... I didn’t touch you! Please don't get the wrong idea when you talk to your husband!"
However, Claire was equally startled and remembered the research she had done on Kevin earlier—this man was notorious for his lecherous behavior and had a history of one-night stands!
So, his earlier suggestion to slow down was actually a secret signal to the driver to speed up!
"Get away from me!" Claire pushed him forcefully.
"Kevin, if you dare to touch me again, we'll both be done for!" she threatened.
The ferocity in her voice made his skin crawl, and he meekly moved aside, keeping as much distance as possible from her.
Claire had suddenly sprung up from her seat!
Her movements were swift and ferocious as she quickly used her bag strap to strangle the driver.
The driver, in shock, struggled to maintain control of the steering wheel while the vehicle swayed dangerously on the road, the tires screeching sharply against the pavement.
“Claire, let go! Do you have a death wish?” Kevin attempted to move forward to pull Claire away when she forcefully kicked him in the knee.
The driver, choked by Claire, was turning purple, and the vehicle was shaking violently.
Claire, struggling to fight off dizziness and with trembling hands, finally managed to reach the car door control next to the driver's seat.
“Ah—” Kevin let out an agonized scream and quickly reached out to grab the steering wheel. Just as the car was about to crash into a large tree by the road, Claire opened the door and leaped out...
There was a loud boom as the front of the car crashed into the tree.
After an unknown amount of time, Kevin and the driver supported each other as they walked out from the car. They were in a sorry state but didn’t suffer much harm, thanks to the airbags.
Claire, however, was not so fortunate.
When Kevin saw her lying stiffly by the roadside, it felt as if a thunderbolt had struck him.
“Hurry! Call an ambulance! Call the police!”
Taking out his phone, Kevin, a man over six feet tall, cried like a child, his words barely comprehensible.
“Hello, Dennis, I’m finished.. a car accident, I’m as good as dead, I’ve killed Claire!”
“Alpha Colin is going to kill me, he definitely will!”
