Chapter 39 Love potion
Claire's POV
"Vivian? What's wrong with you?"
I saw Vivian frozen in the kitchen for a long time, worried she might've burned herself, I quickly stood up to check on her.
Little did I know, Vivian was looking at a pot of soup and a basin of medicinal residue, laughing uncontrollably.
"Is this..." I was surprised, realizing that the scent I had been smelling since early morning was from these!
Suppressing her laughter, Vivian looked at me with a meaningful expression, "If I tell you, promise not to freak out, okay?"
"What's going on?"
"All this is medicine meant for animals," Vivian giggled, covering her mouth, "Although it's harmless for people to drink, it's used for treating large breeds like Huskies with a mating stimulant to help them breed!"
I looked confused, "Why would Colin make this kind of soup for me?"
Vivian completely lost it in laughter, "He must have been deceived then, lucky you didn't drink it."
I was stunned, my face suddenly flushing red.
"Hey, what's the situation with him?" Vivian looped an arm around my neck, "You're clearly on your period and can't cater to him, and yet he's thinking of spicing things up tonight?"
"Vivian!" I glared at her, stopping her from continuing.
"Alright, alright, no more teasing you." Vivian helped me back to bed to lie down.
Regardless of Colin's intentions, this aphrodisiac soup was definitely not for drinking.
Vivian brought me a cup of hot black tea, "There's something serious I need to tell you."
I was taken aback, seeing her sobering up and looking serious, I grew a bit nervous. "What is it?"
"This morning, I passed by Mr. Simmons' office and overheard his conversation with Sarah... It seems your name came up."
My face paled. Jayden Simmons was Sarah's uncle and a major shareholder of the company. After I had hit Sarah, she was bound to complain to her uncle.
I wouldn't be able to stay in the company after this revelation, but I hadn't sent out resumes in the last few days, and I had a few projects that I hadn't wrapped up yet...
"Don't be nervous," Vivian said, patting the back of my hand. "Actually, I was quite surprised by what I heard. Sarah had been badmouthing you, but Mr. Simmons didn't join in. Instead, he praised your work ability strongly. It seems he might even be considering promoting you to sales team leader!"
"What are you talking about?" I widened my eyes, then felt perplexed.
As a minor salesperson, I rarely encountered Jayden, one of the company's executives, and didn't really understand him as a person.
But I often heard from senior colleagues that Mr. Simmons was quite cultured. He didn't put on airs when meeting people and was easy to get along with. He didn't unequivocally favor Sarah, either.
"Maybe Mr. Simmons really values talent," Vivian observed, looking at me. "The sales department lost a couple of veterans, taking a lot of clients with them. The company is really in need of people right now... Claire, this might indeed be an opportunity!"
I pursed my lips and remained silent.
I remembered something Colin taught me: if you’re uncertain about something or someone, consider it from their perspective.
"Vivian," I said softly, "if you were a major shareholder and your niece was hit by an employee, would you promote that person regardless of past grudges?"
"If that employee was capable, do you think they would be your niece's ally or her enemy?"
