Chapter 55 He Can Endure, But His Woman Cannot

Claire's POV

Colin seemed to notice my downcast expression—I'm someone whose emotions are easily read. He chuckled lightly and brushed up my curly hair, asking, "What's wrong?"
I let out a deep sigh and gave a wry smile, "There's no good way to get back at them right now."

Lowering my gaze and toying with my fingers, I continued, "I don't want to make a spectacle of this. It's not something to be proud of. People like them do evil deeds and then carry on with their lives as if nothing happened. But I'm powerless to touch them, pretend that nothing has occurred, and bide my time. When I've gained enough strength to confront them, that's when I'll settle the score!"

Colin regarded me with a gentle smile.

"Claire," he chuckled softly, "let me ask you. If you had superpowers right now, how would you deal with those who have hurt you?"

"What?" I looked at him with wide eyes.

"We're just chatting, let's let our imaginations run wild," he encouraged as he watched me.

"Imagine, how would you punish them?"

Rolling my big eyes, I gave a naive smile. "It's not so much about punishment, I just wish that evildoers will eventually face their karma! That they experience all the suffering they've caused me and then disappear from my life forever!"

Colin nodded and whispered laughingly into my ear, "As you wish."

"What did you say?"

"Nothing," he reassured as he helped me lie down, "Tired, right? Get some rest, and I'll go get us something to eat."

I settled into sleep, and Colin quietly stepped out of the hospital room.

Colin's POV

Leaving the room, I was struck by everything Claire had said.

She looks like a woman who would be easy to talk to, but I know she's not someone weak or easily bullied.

Far from it. She's clear about love and hate, tenacious and patient, never forgetting a slight.

At critical moments, she can maintain her composure, even possessing a determination and courage akin to going down in flames if necessary.

The corners of my mouth lifted in a wry smile as a strange thought flashed through my mind—the female leader of The Rock pack should be just like her.

"But do you really plan to bring Claire back to The Rock pack? She might not adapt well to the way of life there." My wolf queried in my mind.

I instinctively dismissed the voice of the wolf. After being targeted and biding my time, I've been waiting for the day to eliminate Wesley and his threatening pack of wolves all at once.

I can endure, but I'm not willing to let my woman suffer the same hardship.

"Alpha Colin, you're out," Kevin stood outside, his expression a mix of apology and appeasement.

He too had injured his leg, hobbling on crutches, with his head wrapped up like a dumpling. Dennis was beside him, supporting him as they waited at the door of the hospital room for quite a while.

I looked at Kevin with displeasure; he was the cause of all this trouble.

"Alpha Colin, I'm really... really sorry," Kevin said, full of regret. "But I swear, if I had malicious intentions that night, may I be struck by a car the moment I step outside!"

"You were already hit by a car," I responded coldly.

Kevin paused, then chuckled, "Alpha Colin, that night I was trying to take Claire home, but I had to put on a show in front of those two brutes, right? Just in case..."

"No need to explain; I understand everything," I said, unable to offer a smile.

Wesley might send someone to take me down at any moment. Now, New Jersey has become unsafe, and if some people with ulterior motives target me, I'll be at a disadvantage.

Therefore, caution is paramount. The less people that know about mine and Claire's relationship, the better.

"Did you both hear what she just told me?" I asked Dennis and Kevin.

Kevin looked stunned, but Dennis caught on more quickly and immediately asked, "Is it about how to punish Jayden and Peter?"

I nodded.

Dennis had a wry smile, "Alpha Colin, are you really going to do as Claire suggested?"
"What else?" I said sharply, raising my voice, "Are you not going to handle it? Do you expect me to do it myself?"

"We'll handle it, definitely!" Kevin was eager for a chance to make amends, "Anyone Claire doesn't want to see will certainly not appear in front of her again!"

I grunted, hands clasped behind my back, preparing to buy some food for Claire.

Dennis sighed behind me.

Then Kevin asked with a laugh, "Do you think... Alpha Colin can return to the Rock pack?"

"I'm not worried about that," Dennis said with a smile, "What concerns me is Claire's stubbornness. What if one day she finds out Alpha Colin isn't human? What will she do?"
