Chapter 23 Is Your Husband Particularly Remarkable

Claire's POV:

"Vivian, you don't know." I smiled gently, "He's actually really good to me."

"Good?" Vivian arched an eyebrow, her expression filled with skepticism.

I couldn’t help but think about the wedding dress in the store, where the salesperson had tried to humiliate me. Colin had rescued me, bought the most expensive one, and even made her salesperson kneel to take my measurements. I told Vivian about it.

After hearing the story, Vivian thought this man was unreliable, vain, and boastful, and particularly quick to anger. The most important point being, he used my savings to show off!

"Claire, if you think him standing up for you in the bridal shop, and handing over a family heirloom means he treats you well, then you're just too naive and you don't understand marriage at all!"

"Marriage requires both people to work together, not just you fighting desperately on your own while he sits back at home, with his legs crossed, reaping the benefits of your labor!"

Vivian poked me on the head in frustration. "You're a good girl, just too naïve. If someone shows you the slightest bit of kindness, you'll remember it for a lifetime, then exhaust your life trying to repay it.”

“Getting involved with someone like Colin, who has a prison record, you, the little white rabbit, will be swallowed up by him sooner or later! A grown man not earning his own money and always spending his wife's! Can he even be considered a man?"

Vivian added another comment, but my expression instantly turned somber and the sparkle in my eyes vanished. I looked at her seriously, "Don't you dare talk about my husband like that!"

Vivian was taken aback for a long moment, speechless by how I had jumped to Colin’s defense.

"Yes, I'm protecting him, I'm spoiling him!" My delicate defiance was unforgiving, "He's my husband; shouldn't I protect him, shouldn't I indulge him? I know he has many flaws, which to you all seem fatal."

"But the person who lives with him every day is me. I know best what kind of person he is! Even if he's been in fights and jail, I just feel that he's not a bad person – not at all. In fact, he's an outstanding upright man!”

“Besides, in this marriage, I'm the one who deceived him; he still doesn't know my true identity. If it weren't for marrying him, the Watson family wouldn't have paid for my mother's treatment. Speaking of which, I should be thankful to him!"

"So..." I swallowed, my cheeks flushing slightly, "please don’t speak ill of my husband in front of me again. I don't like hearing it!"

Vivian stared at me wide-eyed, probably because she was so surprised. Having known me for many years, she always thought of me as a gentle, quiet person, but she never expected, I could speak as eloquently as a whole team of lawyers.

Regaining her composure, Vivian gave a self-mocking chuckle, sighed, and surrendered with both hands up. "Alright, alright, I definitely won't dare to criticize your husband in front of you again! After all, you two are a couple, sleeping on the same bed; who am I to say anything"

Hearing this, my face turned even redder. Vivian misunderstood the reason for my blushing and teased me with a wicked smile.

"Speaking of sharing a bed, could it be that your husband is especially amazing in making love, that he has completely conquered you? Otherwise, why else would you defend him so loyally and spend money on him like there's no tomorrow?"

"Vivian, you..." I blushed with both shyness and embarrassment, "What are you talking about!"

"Come on, what can't you say to me, I’m basically your sister!" Vivian's laughter grew, "No worries, think of it from a different angle – treat it like keeping a rent boy. He's good-looking and skilled; the money's well spent!"
