Chapter 36 I Know What Kind of Person She Is Better Than You Do

At the Williams Villa, Ella's smile from chatting with Emily faded as she turned to Finn, looking shocked. "Mr. Johnson usually seems pretty sharp. How could he mess up this badly?"

Finn glanced out the window at the Johnson Villa and scoffed, "Who knows? He's getting more reckless by the day. Now Emily has to clean up his mess. He's really becoming useless."

Thinking about Emily, Ella sighed, "It's tough for her with a dad like that. She's so thin, it breaks my heart. Since she'll be part of our family soon, we should help her out."

"I get it. I like Emily too," Finn nodded. "But we can't just jump in. Tomorrow, you can spread the word about her and John dating. Once Mr. Johnson gets the hint, he'll come around. It'll make things easier for us."

Ella thought it over and agreed. "Yeah, that's the best way. If Emily marries John, no one will mess with her."

Ella genuinely didn't want Emily to suffer more. The next day, she spread the news about Emily and John's upcoming marriage at a gathering of wealthy women in Mist Isle City.

Many of them were shocked.

One almost lost her cool and exclaimed, "Mrs. Williams, you need to think this through. Ms. Johnson just divorced Mr. Smith."

"Yeah," others chimed in, "You think she's great, but I don't. She caused trouble for the Smith Family, and now she's with John. Mrs. Williams, don't be fooled by her innocent act."

"Yeah, and the Johnson Family isn't great either. Mrs. Johnson is a pain. Mrs. Williams, getting involved with them could mess up your family's peace."

Everyone had something negative to say about Emily.

Eight years ago, the Smith family's flashy display of wealth, spending billions to find a wife for James while he was in a coma, was jaw-dropping.

Many families didn't marry their daughters to James but envied the Johnson Family for getting so much money for nothing.

But even with all that money, the Johnson Group kept declining after Ava left.

Ella slammed her coffee cup on the table and glared at the women. "Emily is my choice. Whether she's divorced or not doesn't matter. I've watched her grow up. I know her better than you do."

The women instantly fell silent.

Ella's stance was clear.

Finn from the Williams Family had been killing it in his career the past two years, reaching the top of Mist Isle City's power circle. Only Chase from the Smith Family could compare.

Others in business had no dignity in the face of power.

However, one of the women, taking advantage of Ella's distraction, sent a message.

At the Smith Villa, Grace almost exploded with anger when she saw the message.

"Can someone explain to me how Emily, who's been so submissive around me lately, is now John's wife? When did they get divorced? How did I not know?" Grace fumed as she dialed Emily's number.

Emily was tidying up David's room when she saw the call, her face going pale.

'Grace is James's mom. She doesn't like Olivia, and she doesn't like me either. She only picked me as James's wife out of desperation. When we divorced, we didn't tell the Smith elders. James didn't care, and I didn't have the guts to speak up. Now that Grace is calling, it's probably bad news,' Emily thought as she told David she needed to take a call and stepped out of the room.

Grace's angry voice came through, "Emily, get back here right now! Bring James with you!"

Grace's tone was icy. Emily tightened her grip on the phone and replied, "Mrs. Smith, James and I are already divorced."

Every time Emily thought about her divorce from James, it hurt her deeply.

"Who gave you permission to get divorced?" Grace snapped, barely keeping her composure. "And how could you get involved with the Williams Family so soon after? Mrs. Williams mentioned today that you and John are getting married, and I didn't even know you were divorced!"

'Ella already told people about John and me dating?' Emily was shocked; she didn't expect the news to spread so fast.

Grace's anger was understandable. Few people knew about her divorce from James, and now Grace suddenly found out she was involved with the Williams Family. Anyone would be suspicious. Even if it wasn't Emily's intention, it did cause trouble for the Smith Family.

Emily sincerely apologized, "Mrs. Smith, I'm sorry, but James and I have been divorced for a while. If you have any questions, you can ask him."

Emily's calm and respectful attitude surprised Grace. Emily had always been submissive to her. This was the first time Grace heard Emily speak to her like this.

Grace was both shocked and angry. "Emily, do you have any respect for the Smith Family? Even if you're divorced, how could you immediately get involved with the Williams Family? Are you trying to make a laughingstock of the Smith Family? You need to cut ties with the Williams Family and clear up the rumors immediately! Don't think that being with the Williams Family will get you any significant advantage. The Smith Family's reputation cannot be tarnished by you!"

Grace still didn't like her.

Emily showed a bitter smile as she thought, 'In the past, the Smith Family and I had mutual interests, so I might have listened to Grace. But now, this isn't just about feelings. If I don't damage the Smith Family's dignity, I'll have to damage the Williams Family's dignity. Plus, only John can help with Aiden's request. For Ava, I don't mind being scolded. Besides, I don't want to disappoint Ella, who's been so kind to me.'

Closing her eyes, Emily finally said, "Sorry, Mrs. Smith, I can't do that."
