Chapter 43 Pregnant?

'If James finds out I'm pregnant, how's he gonna react? Will he be a little excited like I am?' Emily's heart fluttered with a tiny spark of hope, but it quickly fizzled out. 'He's about to get engaged to Olivia; I shouldn't mess things up for him now. Even if I decide to keep the baby, James can't know.'

The shifting emotions on Emily's face made the female doctor tuck away her congratulatory smile.

'The girl is still so young. The lab report says she's 26, but she looks beautiful and pure, just like a college student. She's already had one kid and now she's pregnant again. I thought she had a happy family, but judging by her expression, things seem different.' Maybe thinking of her own child, the female doctor sighed inwardly. Her voice softened, tinged with a bit of pity. "Where's your husband? If you don't want this child, he needs to come to sign the papers."

Emily paused, her voice bitter. "We're already divorced."

The female doctor nodded, entered her diagnosis into the computer, and said gently, "The baby is stable now. Since this isn't your first time being a mom, if you want to keep the baby, you need to be careful. If you don't want it..."

She paused and continued, "Then go to the gynecology department to schedule an abortion. While the baby is still small, an abortion won't harm your body much."

Emily nodded silently, feeling lost. Her relationship with James was over, but she didn't know if she should keep the baby. If the Smith family or Olivia found out, it might harm the child.

But thinking about the abortion, Emily instinctively touched her belly. Even though it was only two months and just a gestational sac, she felt like she could already sense the baby inside her.

Seeing Emily like this, the female doctor frowned, "The baby is innocent. You need to think about it carefully. You're still young, and you need to think clearly about how you want to shape your future. If you really don't know what to do, go home and discuss it with your parents. They always have your best interests at heart."

Emily's slender fingers curled slightly, her eyes dimmed, and a mocking smile appeared on her lips before she suppressed it. Aiden didn't care about her well-being. The worse she was, the happier her family would be.

Emily nodded, "Thank you. I'll think about it."

In the bustling hallway, Emily carefully protected her belly as she walked out. Today, she was wearing a light blue long dress, her delicate features standing out in the crowd.

As Olivia passed by, she happened to see Emily, wondering what she was doing here.

Olivia looked up at the large "Obstetrics and Gynecology" sign, feeling uneasy.

'Why would Emily come to Obstetrics and Gynecology? Could it be...' Olivia's face twisted with anger, her nails digging into her palms. She adjusted her work uniform, forced a casual smile, and avoided Emily as she headed towards the obstetrics and gynecology department.

"Dr. Scott, what brings you here?" Clinic hours had just ended, and Emily was the last patient. Scarlett Lewis was about to pack up and head back to the ward when she heard a knock on the door. She looked up, expecting a lost patient, but was surprised to see Olivia, an orthopedic doctor.

VirtualCare Hospital in Mist Isle City was renowned for its orthopedics, with an entire building dedicated to research. The orthopedic doctors were all elite graduates from overseas, usually very proud and rarely mingling with doctors from other departments.

Scarlett's impression of Olivia was that she was a female doctor who had suddenly returned from studying abroad a few months ago and was recommended to join the hospital. They had no other interactions, and she didn't know why Olivia had come today.

"Dr. Lewis." Olivia flashed a sweet smile and set the file she was holding aside. "I'm about to get engaged, and I want to start preparing for pregnancy, so I came to ask you for some advice."

Hearing this, Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief and invited Olivia to sit down. "This is a small matter. You didn't need to come in person; I could have told you over the phone."

After chatting for a while about preparing for pregnancy, Olivia felt the timing was right and casually asked, "I just saw a girl in a blue dress leaving. She's quite pretty. Is she pregnant?"

Thinking of Emily, Scarlett sighed again, "Don't mention it. She said she's already divorced and now pregnant again. She doesn't know what to do."

Olivia's heart was about to explode with envy. 'Emily is really pregnant! How can she be pregnant? James hasn't touched me in a while, and I didn't have any opportunity to do anything. No! James and I are about to get engaged. I can't allow any accidents!'

"Isn't it ironic? Couples who want children can't have them, but divorced people with no feelings end up with a child." Scarlett, unaware of the conflict between Emily and Olivia, continued talking.

Olivia could barely contain her anger, forcing a smile. "Dr. Lewis, I just remembered I have something to do. See you."

With that, Olivia quickly got up and left, leaving Scarlett dumbfounded behind her desk.

'What's with these young people? Each one of them has mood swings even more volatile than me, a menopausal woman. Well, whatever. I should get off work,' Scarlett thought.

Outside the clinic building, Olivia leaned against the wall, inching forward. She saw Emily sitting on a bench, head down, holding a report. From a distance, Olivia watched, her face growing darker, her eyes flashing with hatred.
