Chapter 59 She finally figured it out.

Today was the weekend.

When Olivia got back to the Smith Villa, James was deep in a meeting on the couch.

James had this noble, stern look about him. Under the light, he stood tall and his suit was perfectly tailored, oozing sophistication and elegance.

His eyes were deep and calm, his voice low and magnetic. He spoke confidently to the camera, radiating his unique charm.

Olivia stared at James, totally obsessed, feeling even less regret about what she did.

'How could it be wrong for me to chase my own happiness?' Olivia made an excuse for herself.

She waited until James wrapped up his meeting, then walked over hesitantly and said, "James, I need to talk to you."

"What is it?" James didn't even look up, still typing away on his computer.

"Emily scheduled an abortion at our hospital last night. She's already out of surgery."

James's hands froze on the keyboard.

"She might've called you last night to talk about it. Since you didn't answer, she probably decided not to bother you anymore," Olivia added.

James leaned back a bit, feeling a tightness in his chest. He suppressed his discomfort and after a while, calmly said, "She finally figured it out."

A strange pain surged in James's heart, like he had lost something important.

'But that kid isn't mine. Why should I feel this way? That gold digger Emily isn't worth my pity,' he thought.

Clenching his fist, James said in a low voice, "It's good. It avoids trouble in the future."

"Yeah, she won't be able to use that kid to bother you anymore," Olivia said softly, watching James's subtle reactions.

James didn't notice his own reactions, but Olivia saw them clearly.

Sometimes Olivia couldn't help but wonder why James said he loved her but never truly cut ties with Emily.

James even got more nervous when Emily was mentioned than when he saw her.

Olivia shook her head self-deprecatingly and went back to her room.

James looked back at the computer screen but couldn't focus on a single word. He wanted to keep working, but his mind was filled with Emily's pitiful face and tearful eyes.

In his memory, Emily always had red eyes. She never spoke up when she was wronged, just waited for him to comfort her with a stern face. Sometimes, under his teasing, she would look as enticing as a blooming rose, making him want to bully her.

Now that she had an abortion, James wondered what she looked like and thought she was probably in a pitiful state again.

John, who wouldn't even give her money, made her work as a waitress at Moonlit Tavern to earn money. James wondered if John was with her at the hospital now and whether she would be scared alone.

The more James thought about it, the more anxious he got. Before he knew it, he was already driving to the hospital.

Seeing John's car at the hospital entrance, James couldn't help but sneer to himself, 'Of course, Emily is always good at seducing men. I don't know why she suddenly aborted the child, but John still came, didn't he? Why am I so worried?'

James wanted to turn around and leave, but instead, he found himself parking and getting out to make sure Emily was okay.

In the ward, Emily stared blankly ahead, not responding to anything John said.

John had been notified by a colleague.

Some doctors and nurses at the hospital knew about their relationship. When John's close colleague found out about Emily's situation, he immediately called John.

John rushed over without hesitation, only to see her in such a state. "Emily, it's me, John. Look at me, please?"

Emily's condition was terrible.

Hearing his voice, Emily slowly raised her head and saw John standing in front of her. Her eyes remained vacant, devoid of any emotion, as if she had lost all feelings.

John anxiously comforted her in a low voice for a long time, but she didn't even glance at him. Seeing Emily's pale, bloodless lips, he felt heartbroken and couldn't help but shed tears.

John had originally planned to tell everyone that the child was his and that he was willing to help Emily raise the child. He had even made his stance clear to Ella and Finn.

John knew what the child meant to Emily; losing the child was like taking half of Emily's life.

Since Ava's death, Emily hadn't received much love.

Emily loved the wrong person, endured eight years of grievances, and didn't even have family to speak up for her. Now that she couldn't even keep a child, she must feel so much pain and grievance.

"Emily, it's my fault for not protecting you. If I had stayed by your side, things would have been different," John said.

Feeling the tears on her cheeks, Emily finally turned around. She finally spoke, her voice hoarse like never before, "John, the child is gone."

John gently patted her back, choking up as well, "The child is gone, but there will be more in the future. Emily, it's okay. I'll always be by your side."

Emily's body trembled, and tears streamed down her face.

John didn't try to make her stop crying, but just stayed quietly by her side, letting her let out her emotions freely.

When James arrived, he quietly approached Emily's ward, looking through the glass window on the door. He saw Emily's pale face, vacant eyes, and bloodless appearance, looking utterly haggard. But now she was lying in John's arms.

James's fists clenched and then relaxed. Leaning against the door frame, he felt as if all his strength had been drained. He wanted to rush in and scold her, but Emily's current state made it hard for him to be harsh.

'Fine, Emily, it's better that the child is gone,' James thought.
