Chapter 68 Emily is Very Honest
If Emily let Mia and Isabella get their hands on her documents, they'd probably rip them to shreds in no time.
Plus, Emily didn't have time to replace those papers right now.
"I only grabbed my stuff, and you saw me pack. It's just my documents and some of my mom's things." Emily paused, finally looking Mia in the eye. "Mia, even though Eli's out, he's still on the police radar. You know it was the Williams Family that helped with his case. Without me, do you think they'd still care?"
Emily's heart was racing, and she could feel the sweat on her back.
Mia's frantic movements came to a halt, leaving her in an awkward pose. Her dignified facade crumbled, and her face twisted with anger.
Mia never imagined Emily would have the guts to threaten her. She wanted to punish Emily like she did when she was a kid. But Eli's situation was a real concern.
Mia stood still, stopping Isabella, who was ready to charge, with a cold glare. "Emily, you can go."
Mia held back, but Isabella couldn't resist. "Emily, everyone knows you're just a man-stealer. You better hope Mr. Williams stays interested in you, or else..."
Mia suddenly shouted, "Shut up!"
Isabella was shocked. "Mom! Why!"
Mia snapped at Isabella, ignoring her shocked expression, and told the servants, "Let her go, and don't let her back in again!"
The servants reluctantly stepped aside.
Emily sighed in relief, not caring what Mia and Isabella thought, and quickly left the Johnson Villa with her backpack.
Back at her tiny apartment, Emily looked at the documents and her mom's belongings in her bag and finally cracked a smile for the first time in days.
Emily could finally be herself.
Leaving the Johnson Family wasn't as hard as she thought.
Thinking about the bright future ahead made all this seem trivial.
On the first day of registration, Emily eagerly submitted her materials and kept studying. She wanted to get into the International School of Medicine in Mist Isle City, the top medical school in Galaxia.
Emily had seen patients fighting for their lives in the hospital and watched doctors snatch them back from the brink.
For Emily, helping others and saving lives was everything.
Her determination burned like an unquenchable flame, full of life and hope.
During the days, Emily worked at the rehab center, taking care of David.
At nights, she attended online classes, studying hard, flipping through pages, her eyes focused and determined, taking notes.
David and she got along well now, mostly doing their own things quietly.
So while taking care of David, Emily also found time to study.
The rare autumn sunshine always had a way of lifting people's spirits.
Seeing David engrossed in something on the computer, Emily didn't want to disturb him, so she opened her book to study.
"What have you been up to lately?" A shadow fell over her after a while.
She looked up and met David's striking face, making her breath catch for a moment before she quickly looked away.
David was only 18, but he was getting more and more handsome, his eyes truly captivating.
Seeing Emily's reaction, David's eyes twinkled with a slight smile, feeling oddly satisfied.
"What are you looking at? Let me see." He leaned in closer, revealing his delicate collarbone.
Just as he was about to grab Emily's book, she pushed him back into his chair. "Behave yourself, kid. You can't get so close to a girl!"
"I'm not a kid! I'm already eighteen! I'm an adult!" David glared at Emily, wrinkling his pretty nose. "I'm close to you because I like you. If it were someone else, I wouldn't bother."
As he spoke, he secretly watched Emily's reaction from the corner of his eye.
"Yes, you're an adult." Emily looked at him helplessly.
Seeing Emily's lack of reaction to his words, David felt a bit disappointed. But his curiosity quickly took over. "What are you doing? Preparing to study?"
Emily glanced down at the textbooks on the table.
A few strands of hair fell on her cheeks, and under the sunlight, the fine hairs on her face were visible, giving her a soft halo. Her expression was eager and determined, making her look particularly charming.
David was momentarily stunned.
It wasn't until Emily spoke that he snapped back to reality. "Yes, I want to go to college."
David blinked in disbelief. "Didn't you go to college before?"
The Emily in front of him seemed too wonderful to have dropped out.
"Nope." Emily smiled honestly, lifting her face. "I was young and dropped out to get married. Now, after a divorce and some tough times, I realize that studying and pursuing my dreams are the most important things in my life."
David felt a pang of sadness for her as he looked at Emily's relieved smile.
Even though he had always been abroad, he knew about the situation back home.
Dropping out of college to get married, Emily must have been forced by her family. Now she was divorced, working, and studying on her own.
He could imagine how tough it must have been.
Emily had gone through so much but still smiled.
If Emily hadn't mentioned it, David would never have guessed.
'The guy Emily married must have been a real jerk. Emily is such a good person, yet she had to go through all that,' David thought.
