Chapter 45 Ask Her to Apologize

It was drizzling in Mist Isle City, and the sky looked pretty gloomy.

Emily, dressed lightly, was hiding from the rain inside the hospital, staring blankly at the raindrops falling from the sky.

The air was filled with the damp scent of soil, mixed with the decaying smell of fallen leaves.

The chilly autumn was as unwelcome as this unexpected baby.

Emily felt a dull ache in her heart, but suddenly, her phone rang.

It was James.

"Emily, get to the VirtualCare Hospital's emergency room now." James's voice was cold, with a hint of suppressed anger.

'He hasn't contacted me in ages, so why is he calling now? And why specifically at VirtualCare Hospital?' Emily wondered as she touched her belly, pursed her lips, and felt a bit puzzled. "What happened?"

James added, "Get here within half an hour, or you'll never see Michael again."

Emily's shoulders slumped in defeat; James really knew her weak spot.

'But why is James so anxious for me to come over? Could it be that he already knows about my pregnancy?' Thinking about it, Emily felt uneasy. She hadn't decided whether to keep the child, and given James's current attitude towards her, if he did know about the baby, he probably wouldn't be pleased.

But Emily couldn't ignore Michael's situation. James could do anything when he was mad, and if she didn't get there in half an hour, he would find another way to make her come. She decided to come; it might be something else. Emily hadn't even left the hospital yet, so James couldn't possibly know about her pregnancy.

In less than half an hour, Emily showed up at the emergency room door.

James's secretary, Matthew Moore, led her expressionlessly to the door of a special ward.

Through the glass, Emily clearly saw Olivia getting an IV, while James held her gently, comforting her.

Suppressing the pain in her heart, Emily lightly knocked on the door.

"Mr. Smith, Ms. Johnson is here." Matthew opened the door, but James didn't turn around, and Olivia only gave Emily a disdainful glance before looking away.

Emily waited for a few minutes, unable to bear it any longer, and finally spoke, "Mr. Smith, what do you need from me?"

Her voice was as soft and pleasant as he remembered, but the formal address made James feel a bit estranged.

Emily used to call him James softly, and when she was bullied badly, her voice would tremble, the pitch rising, making him want to bully her more.

James's eyes flickered, and he frowned, speaking sternly, "Emily, you must apologize to Olivia today!"

Emily raised her head, stubbornly looking at the two on the bed. "I didn't do anything wrong. Why should I apologize?"

Instinctively, Emily breathed a sigh of relief, but also felt a bit disappointed. It seemed James didn't know about her pregnancy, but she also wanted to know if James would be as excited about and looked forward to the child if he found out.

James stood up, his face dark, and walked over. He was a head taller than Emily, exuding a strong sense of threat. "Emily, Olivia has provided evidence that you hired someone abroad to assault her, and you still ask what you did wrong? Don't you feel guilty?"

So it was about this! But Emily hadn't done anything, so she couldn't apologize.

"Evidence? I didn't do anything, so any evidence must be fake! Why should I feel guilty?" Emily was furious, her chest heaving.

But James's expression was so cold that she was forced to take two steps back to escape his oppressive aura.

On the bed, Olivia stayed silent, but through James's back, she smirked at Emily with a mocking, triumphant look.

Emily realized it was a trap set by Olivia, about to say something when James interrupted her.

James sneered, showing a video to Emily and pausing at the payment account. "Emily, look carefully. Is this your account?"

"The name on the account is indeed mine, but I've never opened this account, I have no idea about this!" Emily had never been abroad, so it was impossible to have a foreign account. "I don't even have the qualifications to apply for these accounts, and you know that best."

James's eyes were like sharp blades, piercing into Emily's heart. "Of course you don't have the qualifications, but Sophia does. Sophia always liked you the most, and with her abilities, opening an account for you would be a piece of cake. Emily, using this as a defense is just laughable."

Shaking with anger, Emily felt for the first time that she couldn't defend herself. If James thought this way, he could pin anything on her.

"I didn't do it, and that's the truth." Emily bit her lip, her eyes red, her voice trembling with sadness. "James, we've been together for so many years, do you really think I would do such a thing? Can't you see that Olivia has always been trying to sow discord between us?"

Olivia's mocking, triumphant expression was so obvious. Emily glared at her hatefully, wondering why Olivia wouldn't leave her alone even after she and James had divorced.

Hearing Emily's words, James sneered, feeling even more disappointed, "Sow discord? Emily, you're too naive. Olivia is my fiancée. She has no reason to do that. But you, you've been lying and concealing the truth all along!"

Behind him, Olivia chimed in at the right moment, her voice tearful, "Ms. Johnson, I know you don't want to admit it, but I really don't want to fight with you, can you please let me go? Please stop hurting me."

Olivia looked at Emily with smug satisfaction, but acted pitiful in front of James.

Emily strode over to Olivia, grabbing her arm, wanting to drop her fake pitiful look. "Olivia! I've never wanted to hurt you! Why are you lying!"

Olivia cried out in pain, and Emily saw that her hand was wrapped in bandages, still bleeding.

James's anger was fully ignited. He pushed Emily away forcefully, his eyes filled with disappointment and rage. "Emily, Olivia even cut her wrist over this, and you still want to hurt her! How could I have such a vicious ex-wife like you! If you weren't Michael's mother, I would make you pay! You really disappoint me!"
