Day out(3)

The walk to where Margie and Jeremy stood seemed longer to Janice. She panted and groaned as her legs ached.
She couldn't remember the last time she had walked a distance as long as that. Even though she could see the couple from where she was, it was still a long walk for her due to the condition she was in.
"Are you alright?" Jules stared at her as she halted. His brows creased whilst watching her caress her tummy in the pale pink mid-length gown she donned.
"I'm fine. I think I feel the baby kick." She muttered, with a grin.
"Do you want to feel it too?"
Jules' face lit up at the invitation. He didn't care if they were in a public place or not. He hadn't felt the baby kicking before. He shook his head and strode to her side, then placed his hand on her bump but felt nothing.
"I feel nothing. Perhaps, it stopped?" He let out a disappointed sigh.
"Oh! Maybe. You can feel it next time." Janice said.
"I believe so." He affirmed, extending his hand to her.
She gripped the hand he extended to her, walking side by side with him as they continued their journey.

"The night is still young." Margie stood from the chair she sat on, stretching her long limbs.
"I feel I've heard those words before," Janice stated.
"Of course, you have." Margie beamed. She sat back on the chair, snatched a steamed shrimp from Janice's plate, stuffing it in her mouth.
"Anyways, I'm married and pregnant now and I don't think I would like to do what you have stated back then."
Margie tossed back her head and let out a peal of laughter, "Of course, not! I'm not ready to have my head on your husband's favourite plate."
"You wouldn't want to," Janice affirmed.
Despite the way she often acted around Jules most times, Janice knew she was afraid of him.
Heck, she was scared of him too. He looked quite scary and mean if he wanted to. Whilst sometimes, he acts as if he was caring.
"I'm sorry for what happened earlier," Margie sighed. "I don't know what is wrong with me because I've been acting that way even before we came back here."
"You don't need to apologize. I know Jules understands too."
"He doesn't."
Janice and Margie's eyes shot up to see their husband in front of them.
"You were so mean and I wonder what I had done to deserve it," Jules said.
"Don't mind me," Margie said. "I think I am coming down with something."
"Maybe, a visit to the doctor would explain while you've been judgmental since I have been on the receiving end as well." Jeremy chimed in.
Margie glared at her husband, before glancing at Jules. "I thought both of you wanted to go somewhere?"
"Yes, but we realized our wives might miss us too much. So, we came back to check up on you."
"But we are fine." Margie scowled.
"You are. Until men start queueing for your attention." Jules said, ignoring the glare she was shooting at him.
"Maybe Margie," Janice said. "Men will hardly notice me because I'm pregnant."
Margie tutted, "You hardly look pregnant. Plus, you look far better than me."
"That's not true," Janice argued. "You are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen."
"Stop lying. Flattering doesn't work on me." Margie giggled.
"I'm not flattering you. I can wait to become normal again." Janice mumbled.
She heard a grunt and her eyes flitted to Jules. He glared at her, but she shrugged.
What was that for? Janice pondered. She didn't know why his mood was off all of a sudden. She couldn't remember offending him. Or maybe, he didn't like what she had said because he seemed quite cheerful when he arrived with Jeremy.
"Ladies, you both are equally beautiful. I have not seen any woman that can rival your beauty in the whole of Cherview." Jeremy chuckled.
"Oh, darling!" Margie muttered, blushing. "You know how to make a woman feel gorgeous."
"Of course, sweetheart. You are truly beautiful and I want you to see that."
"Besides, I have something to show you." He said, grabbing her hand and hoisting her to her feet before she could protest.
Jeremy saw that Jules wanted to be alone with his wife. But, knowing the kind of woman Margie was, she wouldn't give them a chance to be since she had declared it girl's days out. Also, I had told them to stay far away from them.
"But, I am talking to Jan...."
"No, but," Jeremy said. "You are going to love what I'm going to show you."
"I better love it! Hence..."
Janice heard Margie say before her voice faded away.
As soon as they were out of sight, she glanced up at Jules. "I thought you wanted to have a discussion with me?"
"Not really." He shook his head, sitting beside her for the second time today. "I just want to be with you."
"Why? I thought you never enjoy my company."
Jules rolled his eyes. "I just want to ensure the baby is safe. Also, I have never said I don't enjoy your company."
"You don't need to say it." Said Janice. "Besides, the baby is fine because they need to get to me before harming the baby."
"That is the reason I need to be beside you. If anything happens to you, the baby will be hurt as well."
Janice assessed his face. She didn't know what he was thinking. But, she knew he was embarrassed and she could tell it was difficult for him to say the words out.
She had told him several times that she needed no protection from him. When he had asked the reason why she had said so, in her defence, she had told him that he said he didn't care about her.
"Besides, I'm here with Margie. She would alert you and Jeremy of any possible danger."
"That woman would do something even more dangerous if there were any potential danger. I mean, she would go after the attacker which is a bad idea." Jules explained.
"She doesn't even have red hair! I wonder why she is constantly furious!" He added, shaking his head.
Janice giggled as she pictured Margie doing what Jules had stated. He was right. She was a hot-headed woman and would definitely go after the attacker which would endanger them both.
"Well, I know before that happens, you and Jeremy would be here."
"Of course. I know whenever you are in trouble." He smirked, tugging her to him.
"That is why I'm not scared to go anywhere because I know you will be there the instant I get in trouble."
Jules' tilted her chin and his eyes scrutinized her. His lips quirked up in a smile and his head dipped.
Janice blushed as his lips grazed both her cheeks. She sighed whilst relishing in his warmth.
It was the best feeling to her currently and she would do anything to be in his arms always.
