Chapter 29
She stood in front of the computer, which automatically turned on along with the screen opposite. Alison opened a desktop icon with an eagle head logo and after entering a six-digit password into the pop-up box, a three-dimensional file with graphics immediately appeared.
Alison quickly scanned through it and said calmly, "Half a month ago, the Brooks family took photos of a bronze statue depicting a human head and bird body in London. When they were transporting it back home, their plane crashed near the border of Outer Mongolia. Now the whereabouts of this bronze statue are unknown. The Brooks family has hired us to find it for them at a reward of twelve million dollars."
After finishing her statement, Alison asked, "Will you take on this job?"
A childlike voice came from the white screen that sounded different than before: "Yes, I'm nearby and have some clues."
Alison nodded as she was illuminated by the light from her computer screen emitting cold radiance. "I'll send you pictures of the bronze statue and relevant personnel files," she said.
"Understood!" replied another calm voice belonging to someone named Qingying.
The three discussed further details until around eleven o'clock when Alison left her study.
...
On Saturday morning when Alison arrived at The Rosier Family's house Emily surprisingly hadn't gone out yet. Upon knowing that she had come over Emily pulled her into her room.
"Ares' grades improved significantly during this monthly exam period; Alexander is also very satisfied with you! Thank you so much for solving such big trouble for our family!" exclaimed Emily excitedly.
Alison smiled lightly and responded: "I've received payment from your family; there's no need to thank me!"
Emily had already changed clothes but was still comparing several necklaces around her neck while talking to Alison asking which one looked better between them all - all were expensive brands including limited editions.
"And this one!" Emily carefully opened a box to show Alison, her voice filled with joy. "Nick just gave it to me; do you like it?"
Alison looked at the necklace in the velvet box without saying anything. It was a GK brand necklace with a leaf-shaped pendant that she had designed herself. The leaf had seven veins and was embedded with seven different colored diamonds using special techniques on top of golden leaves. When sunlight shone on them, the diamond sparkled brilliantly while the veins appeared as if they were flowing water - very beautiful indeed.
Emily's necklace had eight veins but they were made from cheap Mozambique diamonds.
Seeing that Alison didn't say anything, Emily put on the necklace and smiled innocently: "I know this is fake; Nick's parents are ordinary people who don't have enough money to buy real GK products."
Alison responded: "If he couldn't afford it then he shouldn't have bought it or even bought something fake."
"I haven't told him about my family situation yet; our relationship is pure and innocent. He just wants to make me happy," explained Emily.
Alison couldn't agree more: "He's still a student so not being able to afford luxury goods is normal but buying something fake means either he thinks you're materialistic or stupid enough for him to deceive you."
Emily immediately shook her head: "It's not like that! I understand him well; he wouldn’t intentionally deceive me. Maybe someone else deceived him or maybe he doesn’t even know what GK brand stands for since he never cared about these things before."
Alison could tell that Emily was defending Nick whom she didn’t really know much about so she decided not to say anything further.
Emily still wore the necklace without any care in the world and smiled brightly at Alison saying goodbye before leaving home happily like a little bird flying out of its nest.
"Love makes people foolish!"
Suddenly, a mocking voice came from behind. Alison turned around and saw Ares standing in front of the wooden fence with a disdainful expression on his face.
