Chapter 6
Alexander didn't even lift his head, flipping through the documents in his hand with a noble, aloof air that made him unapproachable.
"Alison, are you here to be a tutor?" Emily asked with a smile. She thought Alison was there to be a tutor.
"I'm lucky to have met you," Alison replied with a slight smile.
Emily turned around and introduced her to Alexander. "This is my Uncle Alexander!"
Alison pretended not to know him and nodded. "Mr. Rosier!"
As she spoke, Alexander listened intently, slightly squinting as he recognized her voice from somewhere before looking over at her curiously. Alison tightened the handle of her umbrella without showing any emotion on her face.
Emily was naturally enthusiastic and took the initiative to chat with Alison. "Is Nicola Badley pursuing Cameron Hart? Everyone in school knows that Cameron has liked you for three years. You two are so close; how could Cameron fall for Nicola?"
Alison subconsciously glanced at Alexander and smiled lightly. "Cameron and I are just ordinary classmates. It doesn't matter who he's with."
Back in the city, there was an accident on the road ahead, causing traffic congestion all along it; Emily covered her stomach, saying: "When will this road clear up? I'm hungry already! Why don't we go eat first?"
Immediately Alison said: "I'll get off here then; I'll go back to school by myself."
"What do you mean going back to school? It's already noon; let's eat together." Emily decided without hesitation.
Alexander had been silent throughout their journey but now raised his hand, checking his watch before instructing John: "Pull over."
A French restaurant was on their right side. They went inside and sat down after ordering food while Emily went alone into the bathroom, leaving only Alexander and Alison at the table.
Alexander leaned against the sofa, his posture lazy as he looked down at his phone with half-closed eyes. His handsome features were captivating and challenging to look away from.
Alison's gaze fell on his handsome face, and she was reminded of that night when he had been gentle one moment and passionate the next; his movements were fierce, nothing like the elegant gracefulness he displayed now.
Sensing her gaze on him, Alexander furrowed his brows slightly before looking up at her with a hint of inquiry in his eyes. "What's your name?"
"Alison."
The man's expression remained unchanged; his eyes showed no surprise. Clearly, this name meant nothing to him; he didn't even remember it! But Alison thought to herself: Of course not! He never paid attention to even the name of someone he married.
Just then, a waiter brought over dessert while Alison received a message on WhatsApp from Hilda:
【Alison, guess who I saw? Alexander! He's having dinner with another woman!】
【 It's me. He's having dinner with me.】
Hilda Ashford had been her good friend for many years, and besides her father, Matthew, Hilda was the only person who knew about her marriage to Alexander. Hilda sent an emoji showing shock before quickly sending another message: 【How did you end up together? Did you recognize each other as husband and wife?】
Recognize each other as husband and wife?
Looking at those four words made Alison feel speechless as she glanced over at Alexander before replying to Hilda: 【Nope, just happened upon each other by chance. Let's talk more when I get back home.】
Hilda: "I'm on the third floor; I'll come down and find you." Alison's eyebrows twitched as she quickly typed, "Don't come over!" Hilda sent a pitiful expression, but Alison ignored it and turned off her phone. Suddenly, she smelled a light and fresh scent of perfume.
A woman wearing a GK spring beige suit walked over and sat directly beside Alexander. She had delicate makeup and an elegant temperament. She glanced lightly at Alison before scolding Alexander angrily, "I called you for lunch this morning, but you said you were busy. So it turns out that you made plans with someone else."
Alexander's face remained calm as he replied indifferently, "There is always an order to things."
The woman chuckled lightly and looked at Alison with sharper eyes. "Let me introduce myself; my name is Selina. And who are you?"
Alison sensed the hostility from the woman, but before she could speak up, Alexander suddenly pushed his dessert towards her while speaking in a relaxed tone mixed with hints of intimacy, "I don't like raspberry mousse cake; please have some."
Although Alison didn't particularly like raspberry mousse cake either, she obediently picked up her spoon.
Selina's face darkened slightly as she maintained her smile while curling her lips, "Why are you protecting her? I just wanted to know her name; will I eat her?"
Alexander showed no emotion as he replied calmly, "She's shy and timid."
Alison struggled to swallow the mouthful of mousse cake in silence.
Selina sneered mockingly, "Shy? But I think some young girls can be quite bold when hunting for men everywhere. Be careful around them, Alexander."
With one knee crossed over another leg, sporting thin lips that revealed indifference, Alexander retorted bluntly, "As long as they look good, I don't have any other intentions."
Selina was visibly angry this time and elegantly smiled, "I won't disturb your meal anymore. I'll visit you at home another day."
Alexander responded with a nonchalant "Hmm" as Selina left in her high heels.
Alison had already eaten half of the cake on her plate, but she immediately put down her spoon when the woman left.
Alexander looked up, and his voice regained its distance, "Don't misunderstand what just happened."
Alison remained composed, "I understand. You invited me to dinner, and I helped you out with something. So we're even now."
