Chapter 35 - Tara

Kai slowly rose to his feet to try and make sense out of what he was seeing. Wherever he was felt like a virtual mind link and even though he hadn’t claimed her she was able to show him inside of herself. Kai stared at the bubble across the void. He had no doubt it was Adalyn inside. Was Tara confining Adalyn’s when she took over? Had she brought him here to show him that?

“I don’t understand Tara. What are you trying to show me? Are you trying to protect her from something by doing this?” Kai queried. Either way, he didn’t like it.

Kai started approaching the bubble and Tara broke away from Pax to run in front of him and stop him from getting any closer. Her hackles rose up and she bared her teeth at him. Pax swiftly joined Kai’s side to defend him. Even with his mate in front of him his first loyalty was to Kai and as much as it pained him, he was willing to stand against her to protect him. That’s how strong their bond had become after all the hardship they had endured together. Pax snarled and braced himself to defend Kai if she decided to strike at him.

“No Pax, it’s okay. She’s just scared. She won’t attack us. She’ll submit to you. I think she’s just a bit weary of me.” Kai patted Pax on the side to try and calm him. It felt strange to be stood alongside him, but comforting at the same time.

Kai turned back to face Tara. “You’re being loyal to Adalyn in your own way, aren’t you? But the more you take over her like this, the more likely you’ll end up destroying what you’re trying to protect. You’ll end up erasing her and turn feral. Whatever it is you’re trying to protect her from, I can help you, but you have to give her a chance to help herself. You have to give her some control.”

Kai continued slowly walking towards her with his arm outstretched to show he meant no harm. “You know I won’t hurt her; I won’t hurt you. You brought me here because you know that right? You can trust me.”

Tara continued looking back and forth between Pax and Kai. Kai could see that she was conflicted. Her aggression was being fuelled solely by her fear. Even though she was baring her teeth, she was backing up as Kai continued walking towards her.

“Easy girl…”

Just as Kai approached Tara, she started licking her mouth nervously before eventually lowering her ears and head in submission to Kai. The tension in her stance disappeared immediately, almost in relief at relinquishing control to a more dominant power.

“Good…” Kai praised her and gently patted the top of her head. She closed her eyes as she took in the comforting sensation. Feeling more relaxed with how she was behaving, Kai took his chance to walk over to Adalyn. Tara remained calm but watched him studiously. As Kai approached the bubble, he placed his hands on it. It rippled against his fingers. Upon closer inspection he could see that hairline fractures had formed all over it. Whatever it was that had her encased was weakening on its own. Even up close he couldn’t make out any distinct features inside it, but he knew it was her.

“Adalyn? Can you hear me?” He placed his ear against the cool translucent structure. He couldn’t hear any sounds inside but he could feel more of her energy seeping out through the cracks.

Just as he was about to call for her again, Kai was suddenly thrown out of the void and he was back in the meadow. Kai blinked a few times as the bright sunlight stung his eyes. Pax and Tara had disappeared and in front of him laid Adalyn back in her human form, naked and still. Kai shot up and paced quickly over to her. He knelt down in front of her and quickly checked her over. She didn’t look hurt at all but appeared to be unconscious, just like before when her wolf last took over her completely.

Kai quickly pulled on his trousers then grabbed his jacket and threaded her hands through the sleeve to cover her up. It was long enough to just cover her over. He done up the first two buttons then scooped her up in his arms and started walking back towards her house.

Adalyn was warm, too warm. She stirred in her bed before opening her eyes. She felt hot and uncomfortable. As she shifted in the bed, she realised that she had on a long khaki jacket that was way too big to be hers. On top of the jacket a bare muscular arm was wrapped around her waist. She turned her head to locate its owner and saw a dark-haired topless Adonis sleeping peacefully behind her. She heaved a dry gulp as she took in his image before rolling over to fully face him. A few strands of his hair covered his eyes and Adalyn couldn’t help but reach a hand out to remove the obstruction that marred her view of his face.

With his eyes still closed, Kai’s mouth pulled in to a long handsome grin at her touch. “Is Sleeping Beauty awake now?” he asked.

Adalyn smiled hearing his sultry *’I just woke up’* voice.

“First Rapunzel, now Sleeping Beauty. What other names do you have for me?” Adalyn replied.

Kai peeled open one eye to look at her. “Every princess name under the sun” he chuckled.

Adalyn smiled back in response to his. She wasn’t sure how she ended up back at home, but she recalled having the most vivid dream. As she tried to recall it, a tear suddenly slid down her face unexpectedly.

Both of Kai’s eyes flew open. “Hey. What’s wrong?” He rolled on to his side to look at her in the face a bit closer. He hadn’t had a chance to explain to her what had happened in the meadow and was unsure as to how much she would recall.

“I could hear you, I could hear you calling may name. Was that you? It’s like you were in my head.”

“You remember? No that was all you Adalyn, I think you’re gifted. It was your wolf. It was like some kind of mind link but I could see her in your mind.”

Tears were now streaming down her face. Something inside of her had changed. She could not only feel her wolf but she could hear her too. “Tara?” she mouthed quietly. Just that single word made her feel whole and she smiled through her tears.

Kai reached out a hand to her face and he smoothed the wetness away. “You can hear her now?” Kai’s asked in a whisper. Adalyn nodded silently in response.

Whilst Adalyn couldn’t recall exactly what Kai had done, she knew he played a big part in it. She already felt like a new person, with this new bond to her wolf slowly starting to form.

Adalyn closed her eyes and leant forward in to Kai’s arm and started kissing him. His soft lips received hers gently. It was a kiss that was more to comfort her than anything else but it didn’t stop the heat from slowly building inside of her. She flattened her hand out across Kai’s bare chest and started to massage the smooth hard muscles she felt there. Kai’s growled lustfully and Adalyn mirrored his growl in response.

She was suddenly overcome with this new feeling of want in her chest and she swiftly undid the buttons of the jacket that Kai had put on her before she rolled on top of him. Without the jacket on she was completely naked and her breasts pressed on to Kai’s bare chest.

“Adalyn?” Kai mouthed between their heated kisses. “Adalyn wait...” Kai continued before Adalyn forced her tongue in to his mouth. Kai flipped her over on to her back and pinned her arms down to her side as he continued kissing her. As his lips traversed down from her mouth to her neck, he slowly released her hands before he continued to move downwards from her stomach. Adalyn arched her back and fisted her hand in to his hair. As Kai’s head dipped below her stomach, he rose up suddenly and pulled her thighs down towards him forcefully before he opened them up. A gasp escaped her lips as a rush of air cooled her burning sex. From Kai’s position he was able to get a good look at her. She was wet and ready for him. His eyes turned black as he fought the instinct to undo the fly of his trousers and bury himself in her.

Continuing from where he left off, Kai lowered his head further down her body, planting soft wet kisses against her as he went, until he reached his target. Kai smirked then crawled back over to her face after seeing her reaction. “Relax, your aunt’s not home” he whispered before he planted a deep kiss on her mouth.
