Chapter 48 - Sexy Cinderella

Adalyn started grinding herself against Kai’s thigh. He pulled up her leg then ran his hand up her exposed thigh in the slit of dress. We he reached her bare ass at the back of her dress, he squeezed firmly. He growled in to her mouth feeling her soft smooth skin in his hands.

Without breaking their kiss, Kai slowly pulled her leg up on the other side and supported her full body weight in his hands. Adalyn instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist to get a better feel of him.

He walked her over to the corner of the room then set her down on a small desk and continued kissing her. He growled excitedly in to her mouth again.

Just at the moment, there was sudden knock on the door of the library. Kai and Adalyn stared wide eyed at each other as they tried to work out what the noise was. Their black eyes instantly returned back to their respective blue and green colour.

“Kai?” A young male voice asked from the other side of the door.

Kai recognised it as Caleb.

Adalyn froze then looked at the door. If he was to come in, he would be catching them in more than a compromising position. Kai pulled his finger over his lips to calm his alarmed mate. “Shhh” he lulled quietly towards her.

Caleb knocked again. “Kai are you in there?”

Caleb tried the handle on the door but it didn’t budge. Luckily Kai had the foresight to lock it as they went in, fearing that a search party would inevitably be sent for him when his absence at the Ball was noticed.

Caleb knocked on the door for third time. “I know you’re in there!”

*’Shit!’* Kai thought to himself.

“Are you with a woman? I can scent you from out here. After all that ‘I’m not fucking with anybody tonight’ speech, that’s exactly what you are doing!”

“Go away Caleb!” Kai shouted at the door. Knowing he’d been rumbled he didn’t see any sense in trying to hide it anymore. His only saving grace was that Caleb didn’t know who he was with.

Adalyn pulled both hands over her face in both amusement and embarrassment. She’d also heard Caleb say that Kai had declared he wasn’t going to be messing with anyone tonight which confirmed everything that he had told her.

“I can’t go” Caleb continued.

"Why the fuck not?!”

“Your mother sent me, she’s on the war path because you decided to do a runner. She’ll make my life miserable if you don’t come back.”

“*I’ll* make your life a living hell if you don’t go away!”

“If it’s a choice between you and her I’d rather suffer the consequences with you.”

Adalyn couldn’t help but stifle a giggle underneath him and Kai whipped his head down to look at her. “This is funny to you?” he whispered.

Adalyn is now full on trying to hold back a huge laugh.

Kai gave her a devious smile then tried to kiss her and pick up where they left off.

“No…stop!” Adalyn tried to say in between a series of hushed giggles. Whatever they were doing was now done. The heat of the moment had completely vanished.

Caleb knocked again and Kai whipped his head back to the door with his eyes jet black again.

“Knock one more time, I fucking dare you!” Kai released a little of his dominant energy to hit home the message. This seemed to have the desired effect and the knocking stopped abruptly.

“Okay, but seriously come out. Your mother is going nuts.”

As they both heard the sound of footsteps walking back up the hallway, Kai stood up and sighed. To say he was an annoyed at the interruption was no exaggeration.

Adalyn sat up at the edge of the desk and start rolling back up the top of her dress to cover herself. She then proceeded to start buttoning up Kai’s shirt for him, to stop him from starting to get any ideas again.

He said nothing as he watched her dress him. He really wanted more of her and from what he could tell she did too.

As she did up his final button, she smoothed down his shirt with her hand and then handed him back his jacket that she was laying on.

“Go before he comes back!” She urged him. “I’ll come back out when the coast is clear.”

Kai smoothed a hand over her face. “Will you stay the night?” Adalyn looked up at his cool blue eyes. She could tell what he was really asking. He was asking if they could pick up where they left off later, without being too direct.

“I don’t want to pressure you in to anything. It’s just something seemed different with you today. I sense that if we weren’t interrupted, that you might have wanted to go further? I know I’ve said up until now that I’ve been avoiding us sleeping together out of fear that I would end up claiming you, but my control is getting better and I don’t think claiming and mating with you has to be mutually exclusive. I think we can separate the two, if that’s what we both want.”

Adalyn didn’t know what to say. With the heat of the moment gone, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do.

“You don’t have to answer me right now and if you’d prefer to go home by yourself tonight, that’s fine too. I’m happy either way.”

Kai gave her a quick kiss on the lips. “I’ll see you back out there.” He slipped his jacket back on over his shoulders then stepped out through the door.

After seeing him leave, Adalyn took a deep breath. “That was intense.” She smiled to herself then smoothed out her hair and dress, then proceeded to follow Kai out.

Adalyn had made her way back to the ballroom. Melody approached her seeing her by herself. “Hey! Are you okay? I’ve barely seen you all night. I did see you dancing with Kai earlier though. Was he happy?”

Adalyn could see Kai across the room chatting with Caleb and somebody else. His eyes caught hers and he gave her a quick wink that made her stomach flutter. How could a wink from him be so powerful?

“He was in the end.” Adalyn replied back to Melody’s question. As Adalyn scanned the room, she couldn’t see Matias anymore or the King. They must have retired early. It was getting late. Adalyn still wasn’t sure if she should stay the night or not. Now that the moment had died down, she was wondering if her starting to undress him was just her getting caught up in the moment. If she stayed, she was effectively agreeing to mate with him.

The thought made her blush.

“Drink my lady?” A waiter had one glass of champagne left on his tray and he offered it to her.

“Thanks” Adalyn took it politely and took a few sips. A drink would definitely help to calm her down. This was the good stuff too from what she could tell. Nothing like the cheap alcohol her and Leona used to drink.

After another few sips, Adalyn had made up her mind, she was going to stay with Kai. She sent a quick text to Leona to cover for her and messaged Mya to tell her that she’d be staying out with Leona tonight. All she had to do now was tell Kai. She felt a tinge of both nervousness and excitement at the thought.

She took another swig of the wine. She’d need that to help settle her nerves.

As she looked across the room Kai started to go in and out of focus. He looked at her oddly as he swayed in the distance in front of her. Adalyn could feel her body starting to get heavy.

As she continued to look at Kai, she saw his mouth suddenly fall open before he started bolting across the ballroom floor towards her. She wondered what his alarmed expression was just as her world started to spin and the floor violently came up to meet her.
