Chapter 57 - School Reunion

Dylan led Adalyn in to an empty room across the hall then closed the door behind them. As soon as the door closed, he pushed Adalyn up against the wall in a threatening manner catching her by surprise. He held on to both of her arms firmly to stop her from moving.

"Okay, you got my attention. Who are you? You quite clearly don't work here. Did my father send you here to spy on me?" Dylan's eyes flashed black in annoyance.

*'To spy on you?'* Adalyn thought. Quite clearly Kai wasn't the only one having some family trust issues. Adalyn was a little mesmerized with how intense he was being. The boy she knew and the guy now standing in front of her were two completely different people.

Dylan cocked his head as he looked at her. Something about her was throwing him off and her silence was confusing him.

"Well?" He asked with a low gravely tone in his voice. He tipped her chin up to look at him. He could tell that she wasn't from his pack or he could make her talk.

"Dylan...it's me. It's Adalyn"

Dylan's eyes widened. He recognised both the voice and the name, but the face looked slightly different. He pulled his face back from hers to look at her a bit closer.

"Ady?" he asked. His voice had instantly softened right up. "Is that you?" His eyes slowly returned back to their hazel brown colour.

Adalyn smiled in relief. He had recognized her, and it was really him. She reached her hand up in between them and pulled off her short blonde wig. Her long brown hair tumbled out.

A smile on Dylan's face broke out shattering the cold alpha mask that he was wearing, although his smile was quickly replaced with a look of confusion as a million questions ran through his head.

"What are you doing in a place like this Ady? And what's with the wig?" He asked with concern.

"I couldn't think of how else to see you. I had to sneak in here to speak with you privately."

"So, you *don't* work here?" He asked playfully.

"No!" Adalyn replied petulantly.

Dylan chuckled to himself at Adalyn's reaction. Before Dylan could ask another question, there was a knock on the door to the room that they were in. Without her wig on Adalyn was worried that someone might see her or that she'd raise suspicion. She felt that she could trust Dylan, but someone from Star Howlers had been involved in her kidnapping so she didn't want anyone else to see her without her full disguise on.

Dylan could see the worry in her face as she hastily tried to pull the wig back on.

As one of Dylan's guards poked his head through the door, Dylan pushed her back against one of the walls. He lowered his head to hers and swiftly claimed her lips with his. He held one hand up above the side of her head on the wall to brace himself and then used his other hand to pull her body in close towards him.

"Everything okay Alpha?" One of the guards asked. The guard could see that he was with a woman but couldn't quite make her out with the way that Dylan was standing in front of her. He paused from fully entering after realising that Dylan was *busy.*

Dylan slowly released Adalyn's lips after realising that the guard was still hovering at the door. His eyes turned black and he turned to look over his shoulder at his guard. "Why do you think the door was closed? I'm busy. Don't interrupt us again. "His voice was low and menacing, showing his full displeasure at being hassled. His alpha persona was back in full force.

"My apologies Alpha." The guard was slightly flustered by his tone and energy, so he quickly ducked back out and closed the door.

Dylan sighed watching him leave and his eyes changed back to their original hazel colour. He was like Jekyll and Hyde. He turned to look back at Adalyn in front of him.

Adalyn was staring at him like a deer in headlights with her mouth partially open in shock at what he had just done.

"What? What's wrong?" He asked, genuinely unsure of her reaction.

"Whh...why did you kiss me?!" Adalyn asked flustered. His little act had taken her so completely by surprise that she didn't even have time to react. She could still feel him on her lips.

Dylan furrowed his brows in confusion. It seemed obvious to him why he had done that but perhaps not to her. "You know why I did that right? You looked like you didn't want to be seen by anybody with how you were reacting."

"So you kissed me?!"

Dylan couldn't help but break out in to a small chuckle at how over the top she was reacting to a simple kiss.

"Seemed like the best move to me given the circumstances. You do realise where we are right?"

Adalyn pushed him back a little with her hands. He was still right up in her space and it was making her a little uncomfortable. Dylan barely budged at all as her small hands pushed in to his chest, but to put her at ease he voluntarily backed off a little to give her some room.

"Well next time ask first!" Adalyn rolled her eyes.

"Does that mean you want there to be a next time?" He replied with a smirk on his lips and a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"Ugh, I just remembered how annoying you can be sometimes. No, there will not be a next time!"

Adalyn could tell that he was just toying with her. He always used to have a bit of playfulness to him and he always knew exactly which buttons to press to wind her up back when they were at school, but there was a whole new level of confidence in him now.

"Fair enough Ady." Dylan conceded. "So are you gonna tell me why you needed to see me? Must be pretty important considering the lengths that you have gone to."

Adalyn refocused herself then pulled her phone out from her pocket. "Yeah. I'm hoping you could help me to find someone."

---------

Back outside Adalyn's house Arrow was sat up in the branches of the tree outside of her house. It was getting late and it didn't seem like Adalyn would be going anywhere today, so he was debating just calling it a night until the morning. Just as he was about to make a call, Arrow's phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and saw Kai's name flash up on the screen.

Following the incident with Matias, Arrow had taken Kai to an apartment that he owned in the city to recuperate from his injuries. They had mostly started to heal by the time they had arrived there thanks to Kai's accelerated healing, but he had expected him to still be sleeping given the amount of blood that he lost.

Arrow answered the call. "Hey, I didn't expect you to be..."

"What the hell are you doing?!" Kai snapped down the phone as he stopped Arrow from finishing what he was saying.

"What's happened? What's wrong?" Arrow asked confused.

"Elias left me a message to say that one of his informants told him that Adalyn is currently at Starla's in the Star Howlers territory. Did you not think to tell me about that?!"

Arrow looked down at the window towards Adalyn's room. A little light was on and he hadn't seen her leave. "That doesn't make any sense" he replied. "She hasn't left the house Kai. I've been here all night. Hang on one sec, before you get your knickers in a twist okay."

Arrow removed the phone from his ear and jumped down from the tree and walked over towards the house. He didn't want to jump straight in to her bedroom in the middle of the night and startle her if Kai's information wasn't true. Arrow sniffed around the house. If she had left recently there would have been a trail. He couldn't smell her scent near the doors. Arrow walked round the back and the smallest hint of her scent caught his nose. Arrow followed it towards the edge of the forest. He saw a small bundle of casual clothes folded up neatly. He sniffed them. Something had been used to mask her scent on the clothes, but she hadn't done the best job of covering it up. They were definitely hers. If her clothes were here, she must have shifted and taken off.

He ran back towards the house and climbed up to her bedroom window. He could still sense someone in her room and could still smell her scent.

He climbed in her bedroom window and looked around. Someone was in her bed but Arrow couldn't make out who it was, with the quilt cover pulled right over them.

Arrow whipped the covers off to find Leona underneath with a very sheepish but mischievous grin on her face.

"Oops. Hey hotty, care to join me?" She rubbed the empty space of bed with the palm of her hand.

"Fuck!" Arrow shouted. He put his phone back to his ear to continue his conversation with Kai but the line had gone dead. Arrow tried ringing him back but it went straight to voicemail.

*'Crap!'* he thought. Knowing Kai he knew that he would already be making his way over there. Arrow flew back out of her bedroom window like the wind. He didn't know whether to be impressed or annoyed with Adalyn's little stunt, but either way he knew he was in shit. He didn't understand why on earth she would be over there.

Kai was in no condition to be out and about yet after his fight with Matias. If he wasn't mad before, he sure as hell was going to be mad now. Arrow didn't want a repeat of one of Kai's explosion's given Pax's heightened mental state. If that was to happen in public, he might not be able to do anything about it.

Arrow whipped through the forest as fast as he could back towards his car. He could only pray that he could get to Adalyn before Kai did.
