Chapter 38 - Date Night (Part 1)

Kai sped down the city streets whipping through the traffic. The engine roared and purred as he sped up then slowed down through the cars that surrounded them.

Adalyn melted in to the soft black leather seats. It was so comfortable and roomy. The car was pristine on the inside and had that 'new car' smell to it. It didn't look as though it had ever been driven before. Blue LED lights framed the centre console and the Blue Moon pack crest was sewn in to the leather trim that surrounded it. This was luxury, a lifestyle that Adalyn was definitely not used to.

"This car is gorgeous!" she smiled as she continued to check out the interior.

Kai briefly looked over at her and smiled before focusing back on the road. "You like it? I could get you one."

Adalyn waved her hands in the air alarmed "Oh no no. As cool as it is, I don't think this is really suited for off roading and my country bumpkin lifestyle."

Kai chuckled to himself. "How about this? I'll get you one when you're coronated as a princess and officially become my mate. You'll be living in the palace then so you'll need something to get around in."

Adalyn looked up at Kai who was still concentrating on the road. He always spoke so candidly about their future. She couldn't stop the small frown from forming on her face thinking about how things would go between them in the long term. She was so focused on the now that she barely had time to contemplate it. They were from different worlds but Kai already seemed to be thinking light years ahead.

Kai caught her concerned look just as they hit traffic. "What's wrong?"

Adalyn pulled her frown in to a short smile as she stared down in to her lap. "It's just... you talk about us and our future so easily. We're so different, I just hope we can make this work."

Kai put the car in to neutral as they hit a red light. He reached her hand over to her cheek and pulled her face toward him so she was looking at him in the eyes.

"You know, it's not a matter of *if* we can make this work. It *has* to work. You know when we were back at the manor house, and I told you all of my intentions and all of my plans for us. I meant it. I meant every word. Everything else is insignificant smaller details for me to worry about. Like I said before, don't stress about it. I have to have you Adalyn. I won't accept anything else."

Adalyn found herself lost for words as Kai looked at her with fierce determination in his eyes. She didn't doubt his resolve or commitment to her for one moment, but she didn't know how to respond to it either. She wished that she could say the same with as much certainty as him, but she knew that if she tried it would sound fake and forced.

As the light started to turn green again Kai released his hand from her cheek and put the car back in to gear again. As soon as the car started moving he resettled one hand back over hers whilst the other held on to the steering wheel.

"So where are you taking me?" Adalyn asked to lighten the heavy mood.

Kai slowed the car to a stop and motioned with his eyes to a restaurant on Adalyn's side of the car. "Over there. Melody owns it, so they already know that I'm coming." Kai turned the engine off.

"Are you ready?" he smiled another devastating smile at her.

Adalyn nodded and returned a smile back at him just before he stepped out. As he rounded the car a valet took the key from him just as Kai opened the passenger door for her. The noise of the busy street hit her like a hammer as she stepped out. She was struck by the glowing bright lights of the capital city and the hustle and bustle of people walking around. She very rarely ventured this side of the city as it was outside the price tag for most.

"Shall we pretty lady?" Kai tucked her hand in to the crook of his arm as he led her towards the restaurant. The word 'Escape' emblazoned in gold across the foyer entrance. As they stepped inside and the door close behind them the atmosphere instantly changed. The restaurant had a dark and moody feel to it, with its opulent wooden furniture and rich dark green fabrics.

Kai continued to hold on to Adalyn as he approached the maître d sat behind a podium. He leaned in and whispered in to his ear. He smiled and nodded to whatever Kai said then rounded the podium to greet them more formally.

"Good evening sir, my lady" he nodded at the both of them. "Allow me to take you to your table. May I take your coat for you miss?"

Adalyn nodded and Kai released her hand from his arm so she could undo her coat. As she undid it, and handed it over to him she looked back for Kai's arm again. When he didn't move to accommodate her, she looked back up at him and caught his stunned expression.

"Wow!" he mouthed silently. He was completely taken aback by the sexy goddess stood before him. She had on a black knee length midi skirt that looked as though it was painted on her. It hugged her delicate curves and pert bottom in all the right places. This was further accented by her delicate gold black strappy heels. Above it she had on a matching black corset top that had gold flower embroidery woven in to the sides. It pulled in her waist and further highlighted her curves. A hint of cleavage poked through the top.

The maître d almost nodded in appreciation too as he waited patiently for them to accompany him.

"Kai?" Adalyn motioned to him, seeing that the maître d was waiting for the both of them. He struggled to move or make any words and just stood there frozen on the spot. Feeling slightly uncomfortable, Adalyn gestured with her eyes that the host was waiting for them and this spurred Kai in to action. Kai fumbled a bit as he approached her. She placed her hand back in the crook of his arm and proceeded to follow the maître d further in to the restaurant.

Adalyn could feel various eyes of the guests on her in the restaurant as they walked through. She couldn't help but start to feel paranoid. This outfit was not something that she was used to. *'Do I look odd?'* she questioned herself.

Kai removed her hand from his arm and then he placed his hand in the small of her back in a slightly possessive manner. He'd obviously felt the eyes of the other guests on her too. He whispered at her out the corner of his mouth. "You should have given me a warning that all that was hiding underneath that coat."

Adalyn looked up at him as he continued to guide her through the restaurant.

"You look absolutely stunning" he finished. He refrained from making eye contact with her and blew out a small breath as he tried to restrain something primal in him from coming out.

Adalyn looked back where she was going as the heat from his words manifested in a blush. She couldn't help but feel a bit pleased that she was having that effect on him. Leona had delivered on exactly what she had promised.

The host led them to a private room at the back of the restaurant that had a single table in it. He quickly made his way over to the table and pulled out a chair for Adalyn to sit in. As she went to approach, Kai held on to her hand to stop her from walking over. She looked back at Kai puzzled. He just stood there staring at her. She could see the heat in his eyes and for a second she thought that she saw a flash of black streak through them.

"Sir?" the maître d prompted, slightly unsure as to what was happening.

"Can you give us a moment?" Kai said to him in a dark voice. His eyes never left Adalyn's face as he spoke.

"Certainly sir..." he nodded and swiftly exited the room.

"Kai?" Adalyn asked gingerly. She was confused as well.

"I can't..." he answered as he pulled her closer towards him by her waist then perched her on the end of the table.

"You can't what?" she asked as his hands traversed down her waist and on to her hips sending a fresh new wave of heat through her.

"I can't hold back..."
