Chapter 17

Alpha KAI POV

Alaska falls into a deep sleep. I watch over her throughout the night. It seems like forever from the time Henry and the others leave until the time they come back with some news. I hear a commotion in the house, and I know Henry and Jay Jay are back with information about Alaska's parents. I also know anything they tell me will be the truth and not some fabricated bullshit.

I do not trust Finn. He claims he needs help, so why did he come here. I know precisely why he came here. He came here to take Alaska and force her to marry him. That is not going to happen on my watch. I reach over and move her long hair out of her face. "I love you, Alaska. I never knew I needed someone until now, but I need you," I say to her. I lean down and kiss her on the cheek. I have to see what Henry learned.

Henry, Jay Jay, and Arnie are standing outside. None of the three came into the house to speak with me. Instead, they sent a she-wolf into the house to tell me they needed to talk with me. It must be bad. "Angie, stay with Alaska," I say to one of the she-wolves nearby. I do not want her alone for any reason right now.

"Yes, Alpha," Angie says as she walks back to stay with Alaska. Tara and Lou follow her to be Alaska's watchdogs.

I step out onto the front porch. Henry immediately comes to me. "I did not want to risk Alaska overhearing what I had to say," Henry says.

The other wolves that went with him to the Larringer camp look as if they have seen a ghost. "It's bad? Are they dead?" I ask.

I expected the answer to be yes, but I held out that maybe Finn was lying. "Yes, Alpha. The Larringer Alpha killed both of Alaska's parents, but that is not all. That man is evil. He left their bodies rotting right outside the main gate of the pack territory," Henry says.

Henry is a giant wolf, and he has seen a lot in his day. He has fought by my side and partied by my side. What he saw today shook him up. "The wolves are evil. They have mercenary wolves keeping guard, but we were able to cross over at a weak point and get to the Alpha's house. Maybe they let me get close, who knows," Henry says.

"Beta Henry, you did good. Thank you for getting this information for Alaska," I say to Henry. I pat him on the shoulder, but I can tell he has more to say to me.

"Alpha, I heard the Larringer Alpha talking; we all heard him. He plans to take Alaska, he wants her to breed with, and then he plans to kill her once she gives him a child," Henry says.

Henry is shaking his head. We are wolves. We like to party, have sex, and enjoy all the worldly pleasure, but we have never forced anyone to do anything they did not want to do. We want to have fun, not hurt anyone. What the Larringer Wolves are doing is hurting people. It needs to stop. How can I stop them without putting Alaska at risk? Hell, I have to stop them in order to protect Alaska, and we all know it. Beta Finn knows it.

"I will protect her and this pack," I growl.

Beta Finn stands at attention. "I will protect the future, Luna," Beta Finn says. Several wolves begin chanting and growling. "We will protect Alaska!" the crowd says.

I turn around to see Alaska standing on the porch. "Alpha Larringer is planning to kill me," Alaska asks. Her voice is low and weak. Alaska has been through hell today.

I rush to her side. I lift her face by her chin. "No one will harm you," I low growl.

"He will come for me," Alaska says.

Beta Henry steps forward. "And we will protect you," he growls. Other wolves join in to proclaim their loyalty to the future Luna.

"See, you will be safe with my pack and me. I mean your pack. We will protect you, my future Luna," I say. I lean down and kiss her lips.

"What about Finn?" Alaska asks.

Just as I am about to answer her, I realize she did not hear the part about her parents. I take a deep breath. On the one hand, I want to stop all of this right now and take all my frustration out on Finn, but I know I have to tell Alaska everything.

I brush her hair behind her ear. "Alaska, we have to talk about your parents first," I say to her.

Her eyes fill with tears, and her knees begin to buckle. "NO, NO, NO!" Alaska starts to scream. She loves her parents. They did not deserve her love, but she loved them still. I pull her close to me and hold her. I know she will lose it when I tell her.

"They are gone, Alaska," I whisper. I decide to skip the part about their bodies being left at the gate and tossed like garbage. Every wolf deserves to be buried and given a proper funeral. Maybe her parents got what they deserved, but I would not say that to her.

"Did he know?" Alaska sobs.

"Yes," I whisper.

I wait for her to become angry, but she slowly pulls herself together. Her body language begins to change. She stands up straight and wipes the tears from her eyes. "I cannot let this define me. They never loved me. I did love them, but they tossed me, and now they are dead," Alaska says.

I am not sure if she is speaking out of shock or if she means it. I will let her handle her grief. I will support her in any way that she needs. "I have to speak with Finn. Will you be alright here while I am gone?" I ask Alaska.

Alaska looks at me, angry. "Where the fuck is FINN?" Alaska growls.
