Chapter 30

When i wake i am surrounded by darkness, and i quickly realise that it must be the middle of the night, i switch the lamp on that’s beside the bed and jump when i see Mihai is sat in one of the chairs at the other end of the room.
“How long was i asleep?” i ask, desperately trying to break the silence.
He stares at me for several seconds, and says nothing, my brain wondering if he is even there or if my imagination is running wild.
He must be angry with me, but it wasn’t my fault, i had no idea Sean would be out these, otherwise i would have stayed inside.
“I gave you freedom, and this is how you repay me.” He says, slowly rising to his feet. “Perhaps i should rethink our arrangement.”
“You’ve got it all wrong.” i say, panic swelling in my chest. “I didn’t know that Sean would be out there when i decided to go for a run.”
“And how did he find this place?” he asks, fury in his voice. “Did you contact your father again?”
I shake my head, “No, i didn’t.” i say, “I haven’t contacted anyone since that night we took the helicopter.”
“You realise what this means, don’t you?” he asks, sitting on the edge of the bed. “It means we have to move again, and it means that i can no longer trust you to be alone.”
“But you can trust me!” I argue, hundreds of emotions running through me all at once, “I had nothing to do with what happened today.”
“You were going to let him kill you!” shouts Mihai, his fist connecting with one of the wooden posts on the bed and snapping it, the whole thing crashing down around us. “He had a blade against your neck, and you did nothing to stop him!”
Tears slide down my cheeks, “He thought he was doing the right thing.”
Mihai laughs, standing and kicking the splintered wood, “You can believe that all you want, but your brother was going to kill you and you were going to let him.” he turns to me, red eyed. “You would have left me here, not knowing what happened to you.”
I freeze, finally realising the extent of his anger, he was worried about me, he might not say it, not out loud. But he would have never forgiven himself if i had died in his care.
“I’m sorry.” I say softly, averting my eyes. “I never expected to face his anger, or his hate. He's never acted that way before, not to me.” A sob passes my lips. “He was so cruel.”
“That is because in his eyes you have been taken by the enemy, and clearly you still see me as such, or you would have argued in my defence.” he sighs, running a hand through his hair, blood still coating his skin, “Am i really the monster of your story?” he asks, shoulders drooping. “Is that how you see me?”
“No.” i say, getting to my feet and walking towards him, gently stroking his arms, “You are not my enemy, not anymore.” I lean my head against his chest, “You mean more to me than i ever thought you would, and i guess my brain doesn’t know how to handle that right now.”
He looks down at me, his eyes softening, “I understand that all of this must be strange for you, you have grown up in a world where we cannot be together, and a part of you is still clinging to it.” He strokes my cheek softy, covering me in my brother's blood. “But we need to create a new world, one where we can openly be one.”
“You really think that is possible?” i ask, “A world where we can love each other without an axe above our heads?”
He nods, pulling me closer. “Anything is possible, especially when i have you by my side, i will kill them all, just for you.”
How does he make the destruction of the hunter's council sound so romantic?
i don’t doubt for a second that he would do exactly that, he would destroy them all so that we can freely be together without someone constantly trying to destroy one of us.
It sounds so nice, the thought of being able to live a life free from their clutches, and while a part of me wishes it could be true, the larger part of me knows that it's almost impossible.
The council has their hands in everything, airports, police, FBI. It's easy for them to make someone disappear, but it’s not possible to get away from them. Not without help.
I know that Mihai has the money to go wherever we want in the world, but i also know that as a Nati lord he has a lot of responsibility to his people.
I cannot make him choose; it wouldn’t be fair.
“I’m worried.” I whisper, closing my eyes. “I’ve spent so much time hiding who i truly am from my entire family, and now Sean will tell them that i am a traitor.” i take a deep breath. “I can never go home.”
“Then make a home with me.” Mihai says, lifting me into his arms and placing me on the broken bed, sitting between my legs. “Just because your blood family has forsaken you, does not mean that i have, and it does not mean that you have nowhere to go.” he traces kisses along my stomach and down towards the waistband of my joggers, “You belong with me, and wherever i go, i am taking you with me.”
I gasp when he rips of the joggers, giggling as he does the same thing to my underwear, leaving me in nothing but a sports bra as he moves down the bed, looking directly at my womanhood.
He looks into my eyes, “You are beautiful, inside and out and anyone who doesn’t see it is a fool.”
The ice around my heart begins to thaw as he looks at me, nothing but care in his words, and nothing but lust in his eyes.
Before i can say anything, he shoves his head between my legs and laps his tongue over my sensitive nub, my back arching in pure bliss. A moan breaks free from me as he shoves two fingers inside, stretching me open, and filling me with lust.
“Oh god.” I moan, my legs beginning to shake.
He chuckles against my skin, “Good girl, let go of everything else and just feel.”
He moves his fingers faster, his mouth wrapped around my nub as he sucks and pulls on my clit, building me higher and higher and when i am ready to explode he drinks my juices greedily, leaving nothing left of the anger i once felt towards him.
