Chapter 89

**MIHAI POV**

I watch as Mae storms out of the kitchen, leaving her glass of blood behind, she’s hardly eating, and she has hardly taken any blood, she can’t carry on like this. It isn’t good for her. She is going to make herself weak.
She cannot be weak when we face the hunter council, if she is we are sure to lose, and I don’t think I could handle the next hundred years without her.
She is my reason for living, whether she realises it or not whether she thinks she deserves it or not. She started off as a new toy I could play with, and somehow, she made her way into my heart.
I took her because they wanted to kill her, and that struck a nerve, all because she didn’t want to kill me. She let me go when it would have cost her everything, and it almost did. I saved her. But I never realised she would save me in return.
I sigh and walk back outside, deciding that for now, it is best to leave her alone. Let her have her moment of anger. Emotions are good, even the ones that hurt.
I walk over to Dren, not allowing my anger to show, “what did you say to her?” I ask him.
I want to know what happened in there, it clearly struck a nerve with Mae, and she isn’t easily wound up. She is normally clear headed, stable. But what I saw in there was the complete opposite of that.
Her witch magic was coming to the surface, and I know for a fact it had to come behind some very strong emotions, she almost tore down the house without even moving.
Whatever Wiccan family she belongs to, it is a strong one. She is going to be powerful when she learns how to use it, and I cannot wait to see her shine. But until she can control whatever it is that made the house shake, she has to be careful. She could wind up hurting the wrong people without even meaning to.
“I said some things I regret.” Dren admits, looking up at the sky, “I thought she would have gotten over the death of Sean by now and see him for what he is; a traitor. But she didn’t agree.” He laughs coldly, “that family certainly have their claws in her.”
Of course it was to do with Sean, that wound is still Fresh, even if she won’t admit it. She loved that boy, even though he would have killed her without an ounce of remorse.
He didn’t care about her the way that she cares about him. That much is crystal clear. It always has been. But Mae can’t see it. She doesn’t look at the situation the way that we do. She is blinded by the love she had for him. The love she still has.
“They do have their blades in her, and she can’t see it.” I agree, rubbing my eyes, “but pointing it out to her isn’t going to make her see the truth either, it is only going to spark anger in her.”
Dren nods, shaking his head, “I admit, I realised that a fraction of a second too late.” He says, “I didn’t expect how fiercely protective she still is of a dead hunter.”
“That dead hunter was also her loving brother for many years.” I say softly, “a few months of arguments and a death isn’t going to change that.”
“She shouldn’t have even been with them.” He growls, kicking the grass, “she should have been raised around us, around her real family.” He shakes his head, growling, “they would have used her against her own kind, and she probably would have agreed.”
“I don’t think so.” I say, “she spared me before she knew she was a Nati, she refused to kill our kind, it is what got her in trouble with her brothers and her stepfather.”
He turns to me, “why would she spare you if she was raised as a hunter?”
“Because Mae has a heart of gold.” I steal a glance back at the house, part of me hoping to see her, “and some people can’t handle that. They can’t handle the fact that she would rather spare a life than take it. The only reason she killed Sean is because he gave her no choice.”
“It’s so strange to think even around people so hateful she turned out the way that she did.” Dren says, “it is truly remarkable.”
Luthor walks over to us, “did you see Mae?” He asks.
We both nod, but it is me who speaks, “she wants some time alone.” I tell him. “She asked not to be disturbed.”
Luthor turns to his son, “what did you do now?”
Clearly can’t get anything past him.
Dren sighs, “I might have accidentally upset her.”
Luthor shakes his head, “of course you did.” He sighs and turns to me, “he will apologise, if she wants to hear it.”
“When she is ready.” I agree, “and not a second before,”
“Of course.” Luthor says with a smile, “Dren go make sure the men are doing what they are supposed to be. I will be with you in a moment.”
Dren glances at me before he nods and walks away, he wanted to say more, but he wouldn’t, not in front of his father. I wonder why.
“You and I need to talk.” Luthor says, pulling me to one side.
“About what?” I ask, instantly on edge.
“There is a witch at the gate.” He tells me, “and she is demanding to see Mae, immediately.”
A witch.
Looks like the cat is out of the bag, there is no hiding what Mae is now.
i take a deep breath, "Then we better let her in, before she tears this entire place to the ground." i begin walking towards the house, "i will get Mae."
"i will tell them to let her in." Luthor shouts, "But i don't like this, they should not be anywhere near her while she is this emotional."
Mae's emotions are the least of our worries.
