Chapter 51

**MIHAI POV**

Mae was asleep when i left, but lately she hasn’t been sleeping for very long, even with all the changes to her body. It makes her increasingly grumpy with each day that passes, but i don’t tell her that, not because I'm afraid to, but because i am the only one receiving the brunt of her anger for now. Which means that no one else on my staff will get hurt.
Garne and i have a theory that she is going to be strong for a Halfbreed, she’s already defeated Nati twice her size and age, and with no help from anyone else. She really is something special.
But she’s also still young, and with age comes knowledge, something which she doesn’t have a lot of, sure she can fight, but half of what the hunter council know if lies. Mae believed that all of us burn in the sun, and that just isn't the case. Only those who are too weak to withstand it die, especially those who barely feast upon human blood.
I can tell that it is one of her fears, she wants to be able to walk in the sun, just as she always has, and i believe with my entire soul that she will. Mae is the daughter of a Nati lord, and Halfbreed or not, she will get certain skills that lower Nati do not possess.
I want to tell her all that there is to know about what she is, and how she will live once the aging ceremony is over, but she doesn’t want to hear it right now. Hopefully i still have time to convince her to accept what she is before her birthday, i do not know the date, but i know it will be soon.
Her eyes are changing, they’re getting darker with each passing day, and that means that she is close to the end of her mortal life. Soon she will know how it feels to be immortal.
I walk down the stairs to the first floor and go straight into my office, i know that she will be safe whilst Garne is up there watching her, so hopefully i will be able to get some work done. I've neglected it for too long.
When i abducted the hunter girl from the hospital, i never expected that i would eventually harbour feelings for her, and i could never have guessed that she was half Nati.
She came with a lot of surprises, but i am happy to accept them all, because they come with who she is, and she is mine.
I pick up the phone beside the desk and dial the number i need. “Speak.” Comes the familiar voice on the other end.
“Jrene. I need a knife, and i need it today.” i say, tapping my hands on the desk.
I have no doubt he will accept, i always pay him well enough, but it always depends on his schedule.
However, i promised Mae she would have a knife, and i will do all that i can to get her one, including overpaying.
She's worth every penny.
“What kind of knife?” Jrene asks, “Another curved one? Did the one i sent break? I have been using a new supplier and I'm sure they are up to scratch.”
“It didn’t break, and the knife isn’t for me, it is for someone else, someone i care about, and i need it today.” i look down at my computer, bringing up the bank, ready to transfer the funds. If he accepts.
“Today?” Jrene asks, “I know you are loyal to me, but that is a big ask, Mihai.”
“I’ll send whatever you ask, but it must be here today.” i repeat, starting to lose my patience. “Unless you would rather i go somewhere else?”
“NO!” Jrene says loudly, and a little too quickly. “I can do it but double the price.”
“Double?” i ask, a small smile on my lips, “Are you trying to scam a good customer out of their money Jrene?”
“No, of course not.” He says, sighing down the phone, “One payment, and half it again, and you’ll have to knife today.”
“Good.” i say, sending the funds straight from my bank. “You have the money, do your job.”
I hear the shuffling of feet and some static. “Right away, you’ll have the knife before sunrise.”
“Oh.” I say quickly, “And make the knife weighted, she likes them that way.”
“She?” jrene repeats, shock evident in his voice.
“Goodbye, Jrene.” i hang up the phone before he can ask any questions.
Despite him trying to rob me, he’s a good friend, as old as i am, because i would never trust a mortal to work for me. They are meant to be food, nothing more.
Though i would have made an exception for Mae wee she human.
I lean back in my chair, a smile on my face, i will keep all the promises i make to her, and eventually she’ll accept all of them.
She has trust issues, and i understand that, but i will gain it from her, whether she realises it or not, she already relies on me.
I go back to my computer, typing away, and sending the emails that i need to send, i am calling upon all of the Nati lord’s that i trust. If we are going to bring the council down, i need as much help as i can get.
I wonder if Luthor would be willing to help? I am sure he is on his way by now, he was excited to meet his youngest daughter. All the others have grown into very strong Nati. I am sure that Mae will be the same.
My phone rings, and i sigh, answering it without looking at the id. “Hello?”
“Mihai.” Comes a sharp voice, “I had hoped that your guards would have been aware of my arrival. But here i am, at your gate, and they will not allow me to pass.”
Luthor. Think of the devil and he shall appear.
“I will remedy that right away.” I say, rubbing my eyes.
I should have gotten some sleep whilst i had the chance.
“Make sure that my daughter is ready to meet me.” He snaps, hanging up the phone.
He may be a lord, but if he orders me around like that again, i am going to take his heart out and feed it back to him.
I call for one of the servants, a young Nati, “Go fetch the lady of the manor, Lord Luthor is here and will not like to be kept waiting.”
She bows, running out of the room and towards the stairs, her breathing hard and fearful. Ever since i interviewed the staff, they have been extra vigilant with their jobs, i should do it more often.
I stand from my chair, stretching my back until it cracks, a wave of relief washing over me, i may not feel pain like others do, but it can still fill me with annoyance.
It's time to meet the father of my future wife, though it is of no consequence whether he likes me or not, my dick has already claimed her, and so has my heart.
