Chapter 41

The doctor has been here for several minutes, but he won’t say a fucking word to me, all because Mihai or Garne isn’t in the room. This asshole does realise that i am a grown woman, right?
“And you can’t tell me the results, because?” i ask, for the seventh time, my anger steadily rising.
“I cannot discuss anything about your results until either Lord Mihai or your guardian is present.” He says, leaning back in his chair, “I’m sorry, miss William's but that is how things work around here.”
“And you do realise that i am a grown woman, yeah?” i ask, crossing my arms, “And you also realise that i could snap your spine in a single second should you make me angry?”
The doctor looks uncomfortable, and he should, because i am about to lose my shit at him if he doesn’t come up with a better excuse of why he can’t tell me my fucking results.
I need to know what the fuck is happening to me, and right now, he is the only one who knows, and he will not tell me.
The doctor frowns, shaking his head, “Mae, i do not stand for violence, and neither does your master.”
“Mihai isn’t my master.” I growl, “I am a free woman.”
“You have been branded by a Nati lord, you are NOT a free woman, and you never will be again.” He snaps, starting to lose his composure. “You have Lord Mihai’s brand on your skin, that means you belong to him.”
I laugh, finding his anger amusing, “Actually, it means he maimed my skin against my will.” i lean forward, “Or aren't you familiar with the fact that some Nati can be absolute assholes?”
“You cannot speak about them like that!” He roars, standing from his chair, “Don’t you realise the consequences of defying the master?!”
I lean back, finally satisfied, “I see, so where is your brand?”
He must have one, he talks about the Nati like he’s always been around them, and not very nice ones either.
He must deal with a lot of abused humans, and a lot more angry vampires.
The doctor looks momentarily shocked, his eyes going wide, “I don’t know what you mean.” He stammers.
“There is no point in lying.” I say calmly, “I’ve already figured it out, and i can always ask Mihai to confirm it for me.”
“Fine.” The doctor snaps, “You're right, i am owned, but she isn’t around often, she leaves me in the care of those who run this facility.”
“Is she kind to you?” i ask, genuinely curious.
I know that Mihai gives me more freedom than other humans have, but I'd like to know how much more i have.
He sighs, “She isn’t unkind, but she has her moments of anger, just as all Nati do, i am lucky that i am more valuable to them alive.”
“Is that because you are a doctor?” i ask, it would make sense, especially seen as Nati can’t take their humans to normal hospitals.
He nods, “Among other things, but mainly because i am a doctor, and a surgeon.”
I lean back, resting my head against the pillow, “Did either of them say when they’d be back?”
The doctor shakes his head, “No, and i didn’t ask.”
Then i guess we just sit here and wait.
I jump when the door opens, excited to see them return, only, it wasn’t Mihai, and it wasn’t Garne. The two black haired men who walk into the room were Nati, i could almost sense it, but i didn’t think they were friendly.
The doctor jumps to his feet, rushing for the red emergency button, but he doesn’t manage to reach it, not before the green-eyed Nati reaches him, throwing him into the closest wall.
The other Nati, the one with brown, almost black eyes, steps forward, his voice cold like ice, “If you come quietly, we will be lenient.”
Oh wow, he wants me to go with him.
That isn’t going to happen.
I slowly climb off the bed, my eyes on both of them, “How about you two leave quietly, or I'll kick your ass?”
The green-eyed one laughs, “You are no match for us, girl, surrender and we will be gentle.”
Funny, i was about to say the same thing.
I lean back, my eyes still on the Nati as i pull a large knife from under my pillow, courtesy of Mihai and his paranoia. Though on this occasion, he was right to be cautious, clearly someone else had it in for me, not just the council. But that’s ok, I’ll fight as many of them as i need to in order to finally be free.
I don’t care how many bodies it takes, one day, I'll taste freedom, even if it is the last thing i ever do. I'll earn it.
The green-eyed Nati smiles slowly, showing his fangs, “If that is how you want to play it little girl, I'll happily break your spine.”
I lower my stance, ready to move at a second's notice, and then, i smile back, flashing all my teeth at him, “You can try.” I taunt.
The brown eyes Nati grabs the doctor by the throat, squeezing until his eyes bulge from his head and his skin turns a nasty shade of purple.
“Put down the weapon, or i will kill the doctor.” He says with a smirk, expecting me to give a shit.
“Do it.” I say with a shrug, “I don’t give fuck what happens to him.”
It's a dangerous game provoking a vampire, but I've done it before, and i haven’t been taken down by one of them, not yet. The doctor may die, but i can’t just give myself over for someone i don’t even know. That would be stupid, and I'd like my head to stay attached to my body.
Brown eyes skin goes red with rage, his eyes turning black, and then he throws the doctor, the poor guy ending up as a clump of flesh on the floor. But he’s breathing, so he should count himself lucky. Not many humans can be thrown around by one of these beasts and live to tell the tale.
I might not even live to tell the tale.
I mean, i hope i do, but you never know.
The green-eyed freak looks at his friend, seemingly at a loss on what to say. “This is your last chance to come quietly.” He growls, stepping forward. “I suggest you actually listen this time.”
I shake my head, barking a laugh, “In case you haven’t noticed, i don’t take kindly to orders.” I lower my voice, adding a growl, “If you want to drag my ass out of this room then i better be dead or unconscious, because that is the only way I'm letting you take me from here.”
“Just grab her, she’s an injured human, she can’t hurt you.” Says brown eyes, and i laugh, i laugh so hard my side hurts.
“Keep on believing that, boy.” I giggle, “See how far it gets you.”
These guys are funny, if they weren’t trying to kidnap me, we could have been friends.
“So, we doing this, boys?” i ask, flipping the knife around in my hand, I was tired of waiting for them to do something.
I don’t give them a chance to respond before i rush them, stabbing green eyes in the thigh and knocking him to the ground, a scream tearing from his lips.
It was like music to my ears..
