Chapter 13
"What?! You found signs of aliens? Where?" Merry asked excitedly after she sprayed water from her mouth.
Sicily looked at her friend with an incredulous look but since they were in her house and there was currently no one in it so of course she felt calmer. At least her friend's scream wasn't really noticed by people because the house was also a bit soundproof. People outside wouldn't really hear the sounds coming from her house so she could relax and not worry about getting caught.
"Last night my neighbor's house caught fire and I walked over there and found a sign and the presence of an alien. I saw it erupt and explode suddenly into ashes because I found that someone had struck it with a fine lightning bolt. The lightning came from behind me and I could clearly see that there seemed to be an alien near me last night as well. But after I checked again to see if I couldn't find anyone, I went home and rested in order to show you this evidence."
Merry clearly saw a black void as well as several small piles of ash that were still there. These ashes were different from burnt ashes and trash or stuff because the current ashes were slightly shiny and glossy-like.
A speck that will glow in the sunlight, more or less like that and this dust is also pitch black in color. It seemed to be the blackest color she had ever seen so Merry could only stay where she was and was unable to argue that it was an alien mark.
"Does he intend to hurt you?"
"It seems so, I also don't know exactly where the attack will go but before he was struck by lightning he did direct the lightning somewhere. I don't know if he did it on purpose or not but can you think who helped me? Is there an alien who helped me?"
Merry and Sicily both fell silent thinking of a possibility. It didn't make sense to think about but then again it was all a bit strange. Sicily knew she shouldn't talk to bacteria that had no interest in her current research, but Merry was the only close friend Sicily had so it was only with Merry that Sicily felt comfortable talking.
"Aren't there any burn marks you can take? You should have taken them so that they could be investigated in the laboratory."
"No, there are only black marks left and they can't be retrieved because they are attached to the cemented sidewalk. There's no way I could pry up the sidewalk because the police would come and forbid it. This photo alone I took immediately because I was afraid it wouldn't be caught on camera, it's very difficult when dealing with creatures that are different from us. They are on different planets and of course have different bodies from us. Our bodies are mortal and made of earth, while their bodies I don't know what they are made of. It's a bit strange to talk about, but I'm even stranger to think about how they could come here when their place is a good place?"
Sicily's confusion confused Merry so much that she didn't know what to say.
"I'll go crazy if I stay here so it's better if we go out and find something to eat while we talk."
Sicily sighed and nodded.
"By the way where is that boyfriend of yours? How come you never see that guy again?"
Sicily chuckled as she got up. "I told you that he's not my boyfriend, he's just a man I helped because he fell next to my house yesterday. Why aren't you listening to me? Please don't act like someone who can't understand what's being said. I suspect that's what's been making it difficult for you to digest the lessons given by Professor John, isn't it?" Sicily said irritably making Merry frown.
"I'm just kidding, you're being mean to me in return."
Sicily laughed softly and picked up her bag. "I don't know where Stein is right now but it looks like he's in his room. His body is still recovering so he needs to do a lot of rest to feel comfortable. Yesterday he already gave me money and it's fine if he rests and stays at my house a lot and just eats and sleeps. It's like I'm opening an inn, thankfully our country is a free country so it's easy for me to accommodate anyone in my house with a good purpose," Sicily said casually making Merry chuckle.
"Did he give you a lot of money?"
"Yes, I'd say quite a bit. He seems like a rich man and a bit intelligent too. It's just that his amnesia makes it seem like he can't do anything plus his body hasn't recovered yet. It's a good thing that I have a little bit of equipment for medical treatment, because when I asked him to go to the hospital he didn't want to so I just left him at home."
They left the house while talking, because at this time Sicily had no intention of telling John about the discovery she had made last night. He wouldn't like to see her come away with little so she wanted to keep it for now.
After all, there must be something wrong with him later, John would not be happy if he only brought photos without bringing tangible evidence such as the marks in person and the like. Sicily was lazy and had too many problems with the man so this time she wanted to take her time and only meet with John later when she had found more evidence.
"After that, are you sure you want to continue with this research? Are you sure you still want to work in the space field if all they're going to do is torture you with weird tasks."
Sicily sighed and sat down on one of the chairs after they arrived at the cafe. "I'm also starting to be unsure because things like this have a huge impact. I'm stressing over how to get evidence and find the existence of aliens who are deliberately hiding. I don't know how to express it but it's definitely because I've majored in science and space so I have to keep doing it. I can't stop now because this is just the beginning of the real world of work," Sicily said making Merry nod.
"Hopefully you can hold it together later because you actually have the ability. But since it's a rather strange assignment to search for the existence of aliens. I also feel that Professor John has gone too far in hiring you. I'm just asking that you don't be too hard on yourself and if you don't succeed after a few weeks, just quit and tell him that it's not your area of expertise because you have a different major.
"You should work according to your ability not according to people's demands. It's not that difficult to work in our country, but it's unfortunate that you've already chosen a major in space science. Of course this might make things more complicated, I believe that you can do it because everyone has their own path and sometimes diplomas are not necessary because we only need talent and ability or the desire to work. I'm sure that you can find a better job to look forward to than being an Intel, the difference is that ordinary Intel always looks for criminals by going undercover but not you. Instead, he asked you to become a scout for your traces and even his own aliens. That's absurd!"
Sicily smiled at him who was already annoyed but she also hadn't stopped until now and even later. She knew it would be easier if she first convinced herself that she could definitely find and obtain what she was working towards. The way was the easiest thing, doing this to be able to get success would definitely have a good impact.
"You should drink first, so you don't go crazy. I'm already going crazy, what about you? This world is really troublesome. I'm so tired of all the things I have to do in order to survive."
"Why should you complain while I do all the work?"
Merry sighed and looked at Sicily after drinking her drink. "You know that I like one professor and one lecturer with him, I'm complaining to myself about what will happen if I get an assignment like this?" Merry said somewhat frustrated.
Sicily chuckled, she knew that her friend was a little absurd but still Merry was the friend who understood her best.
"I don't think that's possible because no matter how different our majors are. You'll be assigned tasks by her according to your major which she'll probably ask you to do which should be my business. Your major is much easier and you won't have much trouble figuring out what you're going to do later if you study hard from now on."
Merry cupped her face tiredly, she knew her friend was too obedient and also always tried to be a model student. She also liked Sicily's easy-going demeanor and didn't make a big deal out of everything when it came to other people.
"You'd better keep rethinking rather than feeling disappointed later, Sicily. It's not as easy as you might think."
Sicily nodded and took her drink. "I know, he's a professor who has high ambitions and of course this will make it difficult for me who is his employee and the person who is working with him. But for me it doesn't matter because I can definitely get through it. This is my challenge before going into the real world of work, I won't have any trouble doing it so you just have to believe."
Merry was at a loss for words as she knew that she would never be able to win to reply and argue with Sicily who was much smarter than her. Her best friend had entered college with her in the same year, but she excelled quickly because of her intelligence and that was different from Merry.
Sicily was even appointed as a teaching assistant, showing that her skills were worthy of respect. That's why her friend was also studying while working, trying to be productive and also being lucky.
"That's it, I trust you. Hopefully the results will be to your liking. Come on, cheers!"
Sicily smiled softly and raised her glass. "Cheers! May everything happen in our favor!"
