Chapter 33

Unedited...

Nathan stood a few feet away from the waiting limo in front of the hospital. He was watching Sabrina hug Gracie and Mariel goodbye.

He could tell she was uncomfortable and didn't want to go with him, but after much protesting from her mother and sister, she finally agreed.

He was going to have to have extra patience with her. She was extremely distant. Every time he came near her, her hands trembled... When he would speak to her, her whole body would tense up, and her eyes would look like deer caught in headlights, and no matter what he asked, she just nodded.
He didn't think things could have been worse than they already were but obviously, he was wrong.

She spent most of her time dwelling on photos and stories her sister and mother told her about her father over the last few years. She was entirely devastated by his death.
She didn't ask one single question about her marriage or him but with everything that was just piled on her, he understood yet he yearned for her to look at him the way she once had.

She turns away from Mariel and Gracie and enters the waiting car. Her face was filled with grief. He felt pressure on his heart.
She was hurting, and there was nothing he could do to make things better. He wished he could let her stay with her mother and sister in hopes it would help her heal, but he knew that she needed protection, and he needed to protect her. He would never let anyone hurt her again. She may hate him forever for lying to her but, it's what he needed to do to keep her safe...

The limo ride was seven minutes of silence. He watched her gaze out the window not daring once to look over at his watchful stare. When the car stops, he escorts her to his private plane.

"Sit." He buckles her seat belt and then buckles his own. "You just have to stay here until the plane takes off then if you want you can rest in the room.

She nods her head and focuses her attention out the window. She had to get used to this extravagant lifestyle. Hospital suits, private planes, and limos.

"Can I get you both anything?" A flight attendant appears.

"Water," Nathan replies.

Sabrina shakes her head without removing her eyes from the window. Her mind began racing from the events of the last few weeks. She kept thinking about her father's death. She missed him terribly, and couldn’t refrain from thinking about all of the time that was gone from her mind. She can't remember the last time she saw or spoke to her father. It was tormenting.
She felt as if she was halfway into a movie and then cut it off to start another.

Then there was the issue with her husband. He was extremely attractive and he was very caring towards her but, she couldn't get over the fact that she didn't know him. She knew nothing of their life together.

She held on to her mother and sisters' words when Nathan left the hospital room.

"I don't think I can go home with him." She admits while lying on the bed.

"Sabrina you can't just give up on the life you had. You have to give yourself time to know him and maybe remember your life."

"I don't know, something doesn't feel right Mom."

"He loves you, and you love him. Go home with him and find happiness." A tear leaves Mariel's eyes. "I just want to see you smile again. Please, Sabrina just go back to your home. He can protect you."

"Are you cold?" Nathan's question snaps her back to the inclining plane.

She looks over and shakes her head.

Nathan lets out a soft breath. "Do you have any questions?" He decided to ask.

She turns her head towards him, searches his features, and swallows. Now that she was asked, tons of questions started crossing her mind.

"Well, how long have we been married?"

He clears his throat. “Almost two years."

"Where did we meet?"

As much as he wanted to be able to tell her the full truth, he couldn't. She would probably kick and scream her way off this plane.

"Do you remember going to the grand opening of The Alden's museum?"

Sabrina was quiet while thinking back. "I don't think so."

"That is where I first saw you." He paused. He wanted to give her as much of the truth as he could. "I intended to approach you but I noticed you attended with your father, so I didn't. I then spent months looking for you, and when I finally found you, you were waitressing at a bar. The rest is history." He takes a sip of water hoping that would be enough. He didn't do well with specifics.

That sounds like something out of a movie. Nathan must've knocked her on her feet. Sabrina thought. "What was our marriage like?"

To keep her safe he had to tell himself.
He adjusted himself. "What do you want to know?”

"Were we happy?"

"I'm a miserable man without you."

A small smile forces his way on her lips along with a dust of pink. “So we were?"

He nods his head taking another sip of water. "Yes."

She takes that in and turns her head to the window. “Why don't we have any children?"

These were some hard questions. So far Nathan was dancing around the truth and that was getting harder and harder to do.

"I wanted to enjoy my wife a little before we started that journey together."

"I actually accepted that?" She actually makes eye contact with furrowed brows...

"Why does that shock you?" He asks. Did she want kids right away? Now that he thought about all her past behavior he could definitely see her wanting children of her own. She loved children.

"Because..."She was starting to wonder how much she changed over the years. She knew she always wanted children right away, and when she did find that right person she would start right away, and if he was the right person he would want that too.
"I've always wanted kids as soon as I got married, and I'm stubborn Nathan. I had a strict thought in my head. My future husband would have wanted the same."

She said his name and he loved it. He relished it for a few seconds. He tried not to act surprised at her admittance but he was. He asked her before what she wanted in a marriage, and she never answered.
He never thought of having kids, he never thought of marriage before her, but if it made her happy then it made him happy so whenever they decided to have kids it would be her choice.
“I know how stubborn you are."

Luckily a stewardess interrupted them. "Sir you're clear to take off your seat belts.

Nathan nods and clears his throat. "Come on sweetheart you need rest." He unbuckles his seatbelt and then leans over and undoes hers.

Her body knew him for sure. Whenever he came close, her senses came alive. She had no control over it.
He holds out his hand to help her up but fearing the tingles she would feel she doesn't take it. She lets him guide her to the large room with a master bathroom and king-size bed.

She was astonished once inside. A master suite on an aeroplane. She wondered if she was used to this by now or if she would ever get used to it.

She peeks at Nathan who has shut the door and is loosening his tie.
Her eyes widened. "You can't sleep with me. I don't care how big this bed is."

When his gaze lands on her it is penetrating, and a deep breath escapes him. He finishes removing his tie and then begins working on his jacket. “I know…” He releases another breath. He then points to a desk on the far left end of the room. "I have some work to do."

He knew he could have done it somewhere else but he needed to be with her. He needed to know she was safe. It was definitely being paranoid but he couldn't help it. The only way he could feel at peace was by being around her.

"Ooh." She takes off her sweater and gets into the bed. She lays there for what feels like hours watching Nathan before her eyes close down on her.

He got some work done but not much. Every so often he watched his wife sleep peacefully. You would think he would be tired of it since that's what he's been doing over the last weeks but, he was far from it. He desperately wanted to lay with her. Her intoxicating aura calmed him and gave him a sense of peace.

After about another hour of working the captain's voice rings over the intercom warning them of the impending landing.

"Sabrina." He rests his hand on her shoulder and nudges her slightly. "Wake up love."

Her eyes open slowly and squints up at him.

"Come." He takes her hand and helps her off the bed. "The plane is landing and you need to be in your seat."

After the landing they take a quiet car ride to the home they briefly shared together. Sabrina's eyes lit up. From the moment they turned into their driveway, she was amazed.

"We live here?" She squeaks like a little child would.

He nods. She was so adorable and her happiness put a smile on his face. It had been too long since he had seen her happy.

"Oh my god! Look! A deer.” She was feeling a little better. She was starting to see a little of herself that she knew. This house was exactly where she would see herself living. Actually, it was better than she could have dreamed up.

When her eyes land on Nathan, she notices his smile. A tingle shot through her spin. He looked so attractive in that moment. How in the world did she end up married to this man? He was rumoured to be with so many women and she didn't want a player. He stated in interviews she has watched that he wasn't interested in marriage or kids. His work was most important. Truth be told, she watched his interview because she had a crush on him. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she could ever have him, or that he would want her. She heard he wasn't the nicest person.
