Chapter 28 Rescue
"Hey! Stand up! Let's get out of here!"
A loud yell woke me up to my senses. I gazed at the faces of my rescuers and saw two unfamiliar women. Wait... I think I know the other one. The secretary in his office!
"I told you not to go! You fool!" She denounced and swung the wooden bat on her shoulder. She looked furious and was glaring sharply at Cdr. Leo, who was writhing in pain. The tall guy was clasping his bleeding head in agony while both his knees were on the floor moaning and grunting.
He must be very queasy now after hitting his head twice.
I stood up, both my legs were shuddering, my arm was dragging on my side and I wasn't able to shove it. It must be shattered alright. Even my hand that he stepped on a few minutes ago was bluish and was totally damaged. I wonder if it will affect my ability to hold a gun again. I might end up killing this guy if I couldn't use a gun as well as before.
"Let's go Kaiya! That guy is a demon. Let's go while he hasn't recovered yet—"
But it was too late. The secretary girl named Kaiya was impaled with the spear. Blood spurt on her chest and the girl and I almost fell on where we were standing, both were petrified to move. I felt her body tremble in terror, both our eyes were wide, looking at the spear on Kaiya's chest.
He killed her!
The soldier girl quickly turned away and ran towards the door when Cdr. Leo swung his spear to his side, along with Kaiya's body. She slid from the spear and fell on the floor, rolling like a sack of corn. She wasn't moving anymore...she's dead!
"NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
When he got rid of Kaiya's corpse, he hurled the spear quickly in the direction of the soldier girl who fled towards the door. She managed to open it by manually jabbing the panel button and was about to change course towards the right side of the corridor when...
"Argkkk!!"
The girl made an effort to scream but her mouth was muffled as she gurgled in her own blood. Cdr. Leo's spear reached her and pinned her literally on the wall. The spear ran through her stomach, her lifeless body suspended on the wooden stake.
Panting in shock and aghast of what had happened in just a matter of a few minutes, my body became completely numb with fear. I couldn't think straight. My eyes were flooded with tears, my whole body was trembling terribly. I felt like all the courage in me had drained in an instant after seeing him killing those two people like pigs...
They were helping me... they tried to rescue me and now they're gone...
They're gone because of me!
"I can't believe Kaiya went here just to disturb us. What a nuisance!" he growled as he kicked Kaiya's lifeless body on the floor. I could hear the dreadful cracking of her ribs as Cdr. Leo's heavy kicks rammed on her chest and head. He kicked her until he got satisfied and then glared at me, his mouth was pulled again into an evil smirk.
D*mn it. I couldn't feel anything. I was so shocked and all I could do was stare at his hideous face blankly. I have to kill him... Yes... I have to kill this monster in front of me. It would be a tragedy to let an aberration like him rule the military force of Zone four. He killed those poor ladies like their lives didn't matter. Like they were just tools in his brigade as if he owned their lives. I have never met a person so evil as him. I need to eradicate him and stop his madness.
I inhaled sharply and ignored the excruciating pain in my right arm. I quickly grabbed the spear beside me and smashed the wood on my leg. I made it as short as possible to make it comfortable to hold and swung it in front of him like a knife.
Kill him... I must—
My thoughts were in shambles but once his feet made a thumping sound on the floor, a signal that he was already steering towards me, had made me crouch to steady myself, my left hand holding the weapon firmly.
Yes, run towards here idiot because now, I won't think twice to kill you anymore.
"You're a disgrace to mankind," I mumbled to myself and he must have heard it because the expression on his face was altered, distracted by the words that came out of my mouth.
I took the chance and gripped the weapon tightly. I have the advantage because I am small and fast and before he could even reach me, I had already slipped on the floor, skidding between his legs and under him until I got behind his back, stabbing him countless times in spontaneous parts of it. Blood spewed out of the holes I made as the crimson liquid cascaded down the cold floor, mixing with Kaiya's blood. The last stab of the spearhead I did on him was a sure kill, a deep jab on his nape that made him gargle with his own blood. He gave a last groan of anguish as his heavy body dropped down with a loud thud like a huge chunk of meat splattered on its own blood. He fell flat on his face, his mouth gaped open as the crimson liquid pooled under him.
My shoulders heaved as I got off from his back. I don't know what to think or do. My tracksuit and face were covered in fresh blood and my hands were still gripping the weapon tightly, as it trembled along with the heat that was covering my body, a kind that made me feel alive and breathing.
I heard the door hissed open and when I glanced slowly at who opened it, I saw Timothy's horrified face, looking both at me and the dead bodies of Kaiya and Cdr. Leo.
That was the moment when I lost my grip on the weapon from my hand and cried upon seeing Timothy finally here to rescue me. My heart was so relieved yet, so heartbroken for the two women who died for me and terrified from what I have done. I had no choice. It's either I kill or I will be killed...
Soldiers suddenly flooded the area and saw the dead bodies around me. Two took pictures of the scene and three more checked the bodies of the dead and they all were in shock when they saw it was Cdr. Leo. There was no camera in here. No other witnesses and by chance, they both are already dead. I know they'll suspect me of doing this and I don't know how I'll face this alone.
"Oh, goodness... Harriet," Timothy rushed towards me and embraced me tightly, not bothered by my blood-drenched tracksuit. He wiped the blood and tears away to see my face clearly. His eyes were so worried and I assumed I might have visible bruises on my cheekbones.
Struggling to breathe between my sobs, I wanted to say something but nothing came out of my mouth. I wanted to explain what happened but my chest was aching so bad together with my whole right arm and hand. Every inch of me aches and there's nothing I could do but cry the pain while in Timothy's arms.
Timothy held me for a while until I calmed down. "You'll be alright... I am so sorry I got too late before I noticed you weren't in your suite and nowhere in the Second level. I shouldn't have let you face that scum alone. I thought the stories were not true. I'm so sorry, Harriet."
He took off his jacket and covered me. I didn't protest when she carried me in his arms without an effort and started walking me out of that dreadful scene. I wish I could tell him he never had to apologize to me but I couldn't talk with my throat that was badly swelling from my incessant crying. I cried all the exhaustion and pain until I felt better. I leaned my face on his chest and closed my eyes. I felt so tired and my whole body was aching terribly. I wish they could give me any sleeping medication when Timothy and I reach the infirmary.
How did he find me?
"If you're wondering how I found you, Kaiya had left a note on her table and gave me instructions on how to get into that place. She said I would need back up so I asked for some soldiers to assist me because I thought something bad had happened to you." He looked at me while he was explaining, the swaying movement of his walking made me feel a little sleepy. "And I was right. I can't imagine the things he did to you, Harriet. That guy should've been reported for all the bad reputations and evil things he did. I don't know if it's a good thing though but you ended his tyranny, Harriet. And you never have to feel bad about it. You gave those two poor ladies the justice they needed.
I wish I could hear more of his words because his voice was starting to sound like a lullaby to me...
