Chapter 67 Meet Carl
"Are we going to tell them?"
"Tell them about what?"
"Us."
I don"t know how to answer Jayson"s question. What I know is it will be hard to admit to everyone that I and Jayson are already dating, especially Timothy and Roanie, Timothy, had just told me he wanted me to be his girlfriend and was the first to admit his feelings to me and Roanie, who is obviously having a great crush on him.
We are both walking outside the cabin, roving the area in case something dangerous might come near the shelter and attack us. We could still hear rustling noises outside and it would be impossible to speculate as to the wind for there is no single breeze in this place. The air is still and freezing and then there is a thin fog that makes the atmosphere eerie, thus giving us both uneasy feelings and deciding to just secure the area to make sure everyone will be safe.
Jayson is holding a rifle in his hands while in my hand is a pistol with a suppressor. It"s funny because the rustling had gone which made it more suspicious and then the roving became a stroll while we were walking in the woods holding hands. He"s a little pushy about us telling others that we are already dating though but I just worry we might hurt Timothy and Roanie"s feelings.
"I-I"m not sure yet. Do we have to?" I answered him with a question that made me scrunch my nose because I don"t know what kind of approach we should take to tell everyone about it. "Maybe we"ll just let them figure it out themselves though. I am not sure how to tell them."
"Yeah... I think about that too." He replied, his head bowed down to look at the dead leaves he was stepping on. It crackled under his boots and stopped as if he had suddenly thought about something and turned to face me with a troubled face.
"What"s wrong? Can you tell me what"s bothering you more than telling our friends about us?" I ask him curiously, nervous about the expression on his face and how tight he"s squeezing my hand, his hands trembling slightly, and I am not sure if it"s because of the cold or because he"s distraught about something.
"I..." he started but he paused and then swallowed, his eyes avoiding my stares. He looks like something is stopping him, embarrassed about whatever he wants to say but I look at him more intensely, teasing him.
He sighs. "I just worry I can"t offer you anything, Harriet. I literally start a new life here without anything and only have enough money in my pocket to feed myself for a week and then I planned on taking any job that someone would offer once I get to the City. And then the bombing happened."
"And then you met me..." I murmured to him lovingly, happiness exploding in me as I stepped closer to him, my hands on his chest. He automatically wrapped his arms around my waist as he leaned his face down on me, giving me a gentle kiss on my lips.
His lips brushed against mine and I could feel the tip of his tongue touching my lower lip, tasting my lips and I gave him the hint that I allow him to do whatever he wants to do right now... and I'm right. His tongue entered my mouth, searching for my tongue as we both deepened our kiss, his hands pulling me closer against his warm body, making me feel hot for his touch and caress.
I tiptoed my feet because Jayson is too tall for me. I wrapped my arms around him, pulling him down until we both lost our balance and we fell on the grassy ground, me on top of him.
We both chuckled in surprise but then Jayson's eyes lit with desire once he felt my body pressed against his sensitive area. My eyes widened when I felt him get harder down there and before I could even move away to save myself from embarrassment, he had already stopped me by pushing me to his side. We both rolled to the ground until he's on top of me, his eyes glinting with desire and he kissed me so passionately that I couldn't help but moan.
I've never had any experience with a guy and this kind of passion that Jayson has towards me makes my heart feel so elated, nervous and weak at the same time.
I kissed him with the same gentleness and passion as he moved his hand from my arm down to the hem of my jacket and I jolted slightly when I felt his cold hand on the skin of my waist, letting him feel me as much as he could while we kissed. He does his hardest not to squeeze me too tight as he puts his weight on one of his arms while his knees are on the ground kneeling on top of me. I don't want this to end though... I want us to continue but we hear another rustling noise again coming from somewhere and Jayson froze from my top.
He uttered a shushing sound for me to not make a single noise as he slowly moved away on top of me, his eyes sharp as well as his senses. He sit and then stood slowly, then I noticed he had already picked the pistol from the holster on my waist.
He grips the pistol tight, aiming where the rustling sound he thinks is. The movement stopped behind the three and he pulled the trigger, shooting something when it started to move again and then a high pitch yelp made us both startled.
"Jayson! What's that?!" I hissed at him and he moved his arm to stop me from moving any further and gave me a sign to stay in my place where I'm sitting. He crouched, slowly stepping towards the sound and he froze once again, looking baffled.
Ok, that's enough. I have to see it!
I quickly moved to look at what made Jayson freeze like a statue and there, I saw a squirrel. A squirrel!
I can't remember the last time I had seen one since dad brought me with him during hunting seasons in our place six years ago. They said it's already extinct because of the poachers who eat these kinds of animals without letting them breed. Poachers just kept on hunting them because they make an incredible, expensive soup for the royalties.
With haste, I check the poor animal, worried as hell if Jayson was killed. But thankfully, it seems like the animal was just terrified that it curled into a ball after hearing the gunshot and stayed on the ground trembling in fear. I look at Jayson sharply as I pick up the poor squirrel.
"What? I didn't know it's a rodent!"
"It's not a rodent, Jayson. It's a squirrel. And he or she looks young. I wonder if it has any family in this place." I said to him, trying to lower my tone as much as I could, and caressed the animal's fur as I tame it. Its ears perked at first and then it suddenly sat on my hand, its nose moving like it's trying to bond with my scent. I smiled and poke it gently with my index finger, "Hello there, small fella. Are you alone in this place? Hmmm... so it's you who's been trying to scare us away from here. Nice job though but not too convincing," I scrunch my nose to it.
"Seriously, Harriet? You're talking to that now?" He chuckled, looking amazed and I just sneered at him and grinned, taking the squirrel with me. It seems the cute thing doesn't want to free itself from my hand so I just caressed its fur, looking relieved from the warmth of my hand.
"I don't know what to feel about that thing though, he interrupted the best night ever for me." Jayson looks at the squirrel in the corner of his eyes, his smile seems like he just wanted to make me feel he's pleased with the animal when he's really not. It seems like he is not fond of pets.
"Stop it, Jayson. He must be very hungry, aren't you? Come and I'll look for something you could eat," I cutely said to the squirrel and giggled, making Jayson roll his eyes.
I went to the back of the car to get the pack of almonds and peanuts that I got from the grocery store, opened it, and took a handful of it to give to the poor hungry squirrel that was sitting in my hand. Jayson just silently watches me and the squirrel having a good time as I feed it with nuts.
"Don't tell me you have a plan on keeping that thing, Harriet..."
"He's not just a thing, Jayson." I look at the squirrel with loving eyes as it pushes nuts on its huge cheek. "I'll call you Carl so that guy right there won't call you a thing anymore," I said to the squirrel while giggling in cuteness.
"Ohh... I knew it." Jayson murmured, looking a little annoyed that I named my new pet using his middle name.
