Chapter 76 The Second Plan
I can't believe we're finally reaching the end of the underground highway.
We could all see it. The small light as Greg steps on the accelerator or the car, reaching it with excitement on his face. Jayson, from what happened last night, didn't talk to me and obviously tried to avoid any eye contact with me. He's upset and it's understandable. I've been cruel to him for not letting everyone know about what is our true status and that makes Roanie and Timothy hopeful but how are we going to tell them about it? I'm too scared of their reaction. I would rather kill a horde of Creepers in front of me than deal with Timothy and Roanie's thoughts about it.
I feel guilty as hell but maybe I'll just let him sulk and try to talk to him later at night or when we have time to be alone and settle things out. I don't want to be unfair to him so I guess it's time for me to decide whether it's the right time to tell the others or not, just like what he wants.
I didn't sleep well because the idea has been bugging me for so many hours, wanting me to balance what should and should not do just to be safe and not make things too complicated that will make this group disband because of me and Jayson.
Greg, when we were almost at the end of the tunnel, made a stop fifteen meters away from it. All of us who are silent, the nervous feeling of not knowing what will happen once we get to the other side of the tunnel hits us hard on the stomach, the wrenching of apprehension gives all a sickening feeling in the stomach.
"This is it, guys. We're here. I can't believe we're actually here." Li kept on repeating the words as if making them a kind of mantra to keep the luck coming towards us. If we need more miracles this is the perfect time for it.
Greg got out of the cockpit and slowly descended the stairs to look at each of our anxious faces. His eyes are speculating if we're all ready to move to the next level now and face all the challenges that we might encounter once we finally get outside of this tunnel.
"So you guys already have a plan?" He asked, looking at Jayson. Jayson just lowered his head and then glanced at me as if wanting me to tell him what was on my mind at the moment.
With a sigh, I rubbed my palm together, trying to ease the awkwardness that was starting to build inside the car. I bit my lip, not knowing how to start the conversation though, and tucked the strands of my hair from behind my ear as I looked at Jayson and others.
He still refuses to look me in the eyes.
Feeling hurt, I just focused on what I should tell the others.
"I... I tried to get some signal from the radio last night and it seems that all the signals here are jammed except for strong signals like the satellite thingy that this car gets to locate our position from the bunker. I saw how many rebels are hiding around the area and I am not sure if it"s smart that we will go on foot and sneak in the middle of the night through the camp of the enemies and towards the facility."
"That will be a great risk. One wrong move and we"ll end up being massacred in that place."
"Li somehow has a point but it"s possible that we can do it, only if we"re careful enough, and based on my experience, I don"t think some of us are capable enough to sneak into that camp full of cold-blooded murderers who want to destroy and claim that bunker for their own," Jayson commented, trying to justify my suggestion to the others.
He looks at me, his eyes apologetic and his lips stretched into a small smile, letting me know that he is not upset any more and we are both okay. I smiled back at him and I know later, we"ll talk about everything that is in our minds just so we could finally decide the things we should do, and maybe then, I could consider his request to let others know that we"re dating already.
Greg looked at me because he knows I have something more to say and he is interested to hear it. He lifted his brows to me and waved his hand as if wanting me to spill the tea in front of my friends. So I cleared my throat and fiddled with my fingers before I said the second plan I had in mind.
"Well, the second plan I have thought about is to drive straight towards the bunker, crashing through those camps until we reach the opening of the facility. This won't be a problem after all because it"s a bullet-proof type of vehicle. My only concern is that I have no idea what kind of explosives our enemies have. It"s a great gamble and if we"re lucky they don"t have explosives strong enough to take down this vehicle, then this plan would work one hundred percent."
"Or we can just have a great driver to pull off that kind of plan," Jayson commented and looked at Greg whose face turned pale, knowing we"re ready to gamble our lives and safety on his driving skills. "It"s the safest thing I know than to walk through the camps of those rebels. There is more of a chance of us getting killed by them if we're sneaking into the middle of their camps than being inside this vehicle and just driving straight to the bunker."
"Well, that is kind of makes sense but—"
Li and Timothy nodded and Mona gave us a thumbs up, saying she was ok with the second plan. Roanie just gave Greg a smile despite the fear that shows on her small, pretty face, having no choice but to just agree because the majority had already decided.
"Are you serious about this?" Greg put his hand on his nape, his brows angled upward, trying to process things in his head and then his eyes widened, realizing the great danger to it.
"We all put our faith in you, Greg," I put a hand on his shoulder, trying to encourage him to do this crazy plan of mine.
