CHAPTER 30
Harvey watched her back as she left and he knew that she was really leaving. It might be seen as being obsessed but he just didn’t want to part with her. He was used to be with her all the time and being not around her was something he just couldn’t comprehend each time.
He went back to his car and drove off. He couldn’t go back home first he had to meet his friends for some drinks. It was weekend after all and being at home would just remind him that she was not there.
He arrived at the club that they had promised to meet earlier and his friends were already there. He approached them as they were seated in one of the private booths.
“You don’t look so well. Did you send her off?” Owen asked him as he sat down.
“Yes, she is gone,” he replied.
“It’s going to be one long weekend for you,” Brian said sipping his wine.
“I’m already going crazy, I don’t think I can go home tonight,” Harvey said.
“You can come and stay at my place,” Brian said.
“You won’t attack me, right? Ruby will kill you,” Harvey said with a smile.
“I will never do that to you and besides you are not my style; my heart beat only for Jack,” Brian said ad they all laughed.
“Speaking of Jack, did you speak to him?” Harvey asked.
“I called him yesterday and he didn’t pick up but I tried again today and he is still not picking up my call,” Brian said his face full of worry.
“I think you should find Nancy and talk to her. She might be able to help you,” Harvey said.
“You think so?”
“I know so. Just make sure you are ready to pay the price,” Harvey said as he gulped down his glass.
“What do you mean by that?” Owen asked.
“Last time I had to buy a Gucci bag for Nancy after she helped me with something. So, if she helps you this time, just be prepared,” Harvey warned Brian.
“I will buy her anything if that means giving me time to talk with him. I can’t lose him now that I finally got him,” Brian said.
“I am glad that I don’t get to suffer something like that. Me and my babe we are just fine,” Owen said.
“I have an idea, how about we go for an outing next weekend. We all bring our partners and I will talk to Ruby to invite her friends with us,” Harvey suggested.
“That’s a good idea. I will talk to my babe, she will be happy to hear that,” Owen said.
“I will go with you too. I guess I have to make up with Jack as soon as possible,” Brian gave a huge sigh.
Harvey smiled at his friend; he really loved seeing that he wasn’t the only one who was head over heels over someone. It was only his friends who could understand his love for Ruby; other people would not do so at all. He was going to drink until he forgets everything.
Ruby stretched herself on the bed; she was tired after the flight. She has just a few hours before dawn and then she had to start preparing for the day once more. She couldn’t call Harvey or her friends; she didn’t want to have few hours to sleep when she was already short of time. She closed her eyes and went to sleep.
When she woke up, she took her shower and put on some formal wear. The whole day was filled with so many speeches but hers was supposed to be conveyed in the evening so she was safe. She joined Clara and the others where they had their breakfast and get to know each other.
After breakfast Clara joined the rest of the students, and other distinguished guests that had been invited to the summit in the hall. She sat there as she listened to the speakers.
All her life she has always wanted to become someone who would provide great assistance to the family business and change the people’s lives for the better. She never thought when she was still a child that one day she will have such an opportunity like this.
She was born and raised in an environment that didn’t allow dreaming for more. Her mother worked so hard so that they could have food on their table. All she ever wanted to be someone who can find something to do and make a life better for her mother.
That changed however when her mother fell for her current husband. She had no idea how she did it but she snatched a multi billionaire and both their lives changed for the better.
She was grateful for that and because of that fateful encounter she had been privileged to be at a place like this and for her to have such a wonderful guy who loves and adore her so much. She was just grateful and she hoped that nothing will ever change.
When her time arrived, she walked up to the podium where she stood and let it sink that every pair of eyes in the hall where staring at her, waiting for her to make her speech. A speech she had prepared carefully, she wasn’t going to embarrass herself in front of the camera and bring shame to her family and herself.
She smiled at her audience and cleared her throat.
“It’s my greatest pleasure to be standing right in front of you. I greet you all,” she said and looked at her notes.
She was a bit nervous since it was her first time standing in front of such a large crowd who weren’t her school mates but she was going to make it. She had watched her step dad and mother talking in front of people and she wasn’t going to stumble at a time like this.
