CHAPTER 36
She unlocked the car and got inside. She switched on the ignition and drove out of the basement parking. She was glad that the issue was halfway solved; she will fight the battles as they come.
It took her about an hour to reach Nancy’s place. The gate was opened and she drove inside and Nancy was waiting for her with a huge smile. She switched off her car and got outside with her books and Nancy ran to her.
Ruby smiled at her and hugged her tightly as if they didn’t see each other the previous day.
“You were a bit late. What kept you?” Nancy asked her.
“Had a heart to heart talk with mom this morning,” Ruby said as she separated with her friend.
“What happened?” Nancy asked.
“Mom found out about my relationship with Harvey.”
“She did what? Are you okay?”
“Yes, I am fine. Let’s go inside and I will tell you everything,” Ruby said and they both walked inside.
They went into the study where they sat down while the maids brought some fruits and juice for them. While she ate some of the fruits, she narrated the whole story to Nancy and Nancy was laughing her lungs out.
“You can’t be serious!”
“I just can’t believe that your mother said all that but I’m relieved now that someone in your family knows and supports you. I just hope your father will see it that way and don’t oppose otherwise it will be awkward in your house now,” Nancy said.
“I know right. I will just leave this to mom and concentrate on my studies. I wouldn’t want to fail at all,” she said sipping her orange juice.
“That would be a catastrophe, trust me.”
“Where are the boys? Aren’t they coming?” Ruby asked.
“They are on their way, don’t worry. Let’s just start with them and they will join us later.”
Trusting her friend, she began to read her books and consulting with Nancy. There were benefits of being friends with someone in the same major. About thirty minutes later the boys arrived and it was noisy for a moment. Nancy couldn’t help herself but told the boys about what had happened to Ruby that morning.
“I wish to have a mom like yours, girl. She just accepted it like that without saying a few words?” Jack asked.
“She did, I guess I will see exactly what is happening in the future. For now, I will just leave it at this. Right now, let’s study and we will play when we are done writing,” Ruby said.
“Yes, boss. When we are done studying can we plan on where to go after we are done with exams?” Jack asked.
“Let’s talk about that when we are done with today’s studies,” Alex said.
The four of them began to study, it was stressful but it was acceptable. Harvey watched as his friends played pool. It was no use studying, they were tired and all he wanted was to just rest and play for now.
“I am so stressed at the moment. I don’t know what to do,” Brian suddenly said.
“What do you mean?” Owen asked.
“Jack had been ignoring my calls and I am about to go crazy. Why is he doing that to me?” Brian asked his tone full of worry.
“You have to understand that he is a senior and he is busy with exams. I have been receiving the same attitude from Ruby too. Whatever those seniors are writing, it is stressing them out heavily,” Harvey intervened.
“If you say it like that then it is understandable. I guess I will just give him some time for him to finish the exams and start from there,” Brian said with a tone full of relief.
Harvey smiled at his friends, he really missed Ruby a lot but he wasn’t going to disturb her from studying. His parents will kill him for that.
“We should go on a trip after we are done with exams. I would like to chill with my babe and forget about all this,” Owen said.
“You have a point there. Let’s just wait and see after we are done then we can get away from everyone. We can use your yacht,” Brian suggested looking at Harvey.
“I will speak to my dad about that and get back to you,” Harvey said.
“It’s a deal then. Let’s enjoy this day and study tomorrow,” Owen said.
It was a really refreshing thought. With all of them going for a vacation somewhere, was just good. He began to concentrate on playing pool once again with his friends. Going home early wasn’t an option since he had a feeling his dad would be furious once he learnt about his relationship with Ruby.
