CHAPTER 48
Cain was quiet for some time; to be honest Henry didn’t know what to do at all. He simply lifted his cup to his mouth and sipped his coffee while he waited for his good friend to digest what he had just said.
In response Cain lifted his cup too and drank his coffee before putting the cup back at the table. Cain looked at him for a while before he started laughing. That took Henry as a surprise; he wasn’t sure why his friend was laughing like that. Was he that angry to the extent of doing something like that?
“Cain, are you okay?” Henry asked full of worry for his friend.
“How can I not be okay? I was afraid that it was someone else but it turned out to be Ruby. I am not surprised,” Cain said putting his hands on the table.
“What do you mean by that?” Henry full of curiosity asked.
“Maybe it’s because I am now old, but I will be a fool to not notice how those two looked at each other that night. I could feel it that they were close but wasn’t really sure to what extent but now I know.”
“So, you are not mad about this?”
“Of course, I am but at the same time I am glad that you my friend manned up and told me about this yourself. I wouldn’t want my baby to end up in a union that would make her miserable. Just like how I and her mother were happy from the start, I want her to be like that as well,” Cain told him and Henry felt a heavy weight lifting off him.
“Thank you for understanding.”
“That’s what friends are for. Since it has already turned up like this then I will accept your request. Out two children will no longer have ties but that doesn’t mean we have to stop our friendship,” Cain said drinking his coffee.
“That would be very immature of us. We have been friends for too long after all,” Henry said with a smile.
“Indeed, we have. So don’t forget to invite me when the kids tie the knot.”
“I won’t but for now those two should concentrate on their studies first and we can talk about the wedding arrangements later,” he said with a smile.
“As long as everything is fine with you then that will be okay, I have spent a lot of time with you Henry and I should probably return and break the news to my family. The early the better, then all will be settled,” Cain said as he got ready to stand.
“I won’t stand in your way then. I have been out for too long and Grace will go crazy if I return late.”
“Greet her for me, will you and tell her we shall come for dinner another time,” Cain said as he stood.
“I will tell her that,” Henry said as he joined his friend.
“I will take my leave now, take care of yourself.”
“I will, thanks. Drive safely.”
“Thanks friend,” Cain said and left eh room.
Henry sighed and sat back down in his chair. What he wanted now was a bottle of whiskey with lot of ice and celebrates how smooth everything went. He knew they would be consequences but what he wanted more was the peace that he just achieved by talking with Cain. It was a good thing that they weren’t in business together; otherwise it was going to be awkward even when they were friends.
He stood up and got ready to leave. All he wanted now except for his whiskey was to see the smile on his wife’s face as he tells her the good news. He didn’t like it when Grace was worried.
She was young and energetic even when she couldn’t give him any children. He was just happy that he could be with her and takes care of the children that were already there with her.
He called his driver the second he left the room so that he may bring the car to the front. He paid for the meal before he left the restaurant. He sat in the back seat, happily as he couldn’t wait to get home and share the good news to his wife.

Janet didn’t think this day would come for her. She was so furious that she left the house and drove her car to a club where she was going to drink until she was drunk.
She sat there drinking one glass after another and yet she wasn’t feeling anything at all. She wasn’t just getting drunk. As she sat there, someone suddenly stood right in front of her and she looked up and smiled.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
“I was over there when I realized that you were also here. Why are you drinking here alone?”
“I just got dumped and it sucks,” she said.
“Who would dump such a beautiful girl like you?”
“There is someone like that. Would you like to join me?” she asked.
“Since you asked then I will gladly do,” the young man said and sat right next to her.
She smiled as she noticed for the first tie just how handsome he was. She had never really been curious about other guys since her mind had been set on one person since she was young.
