CHAPTER 52
Harvey took his car keys and ran outside to where he had parked his car earlier when he arrived. He knew exactly which club she would go. On his way to the club, he remembered how sullen Brian was. His best friend was so good at messing things up. Since Ruby was out with her friends then it also meant that Jack would be also there.
Since he loved his friend so much, he gave Brian a call and told him where Jack was. He just hoped that this time he will make things right and stop messing up. He had known Jack for a very long time and he was more fragile than the other members of his sister’s gang. He wouldn’t want to see both of them hurt; he just wanted everything to work out for all of them.
However, the most pressing issue now was Ruby. It wasn’t in Ruby’s plans to have a baby that early. He knew just how ambitious she was. Ruby was hard working and a good person at least to him. Now that she was pregnant, it meant she had to give up a lot of things. He just hoped that she will forgive him.
When he arrived at the club, he hurriedly went inside and after a few peeks he found where they were. He ran to where they were seated and when he got there, Ruby wasn’t there.
“I knew you were going to find us but you came a bit late,” Nancy said with a smile.
“I guess you lost the bet. Now, pay up,” Alex said as he stretched his hand towards Nancy.
Harvey watched as Nancy gave Alex a hundred-dollar bill and he just shook his head.
“Where is she?” he asked the gang.
“Your dear and lovely wife went to the bathroom a while ago and she is not yet back. Since you are here, you can go and check up on her,” Nancy answered.
“Had she not been feeling well?” he asked, wanting to know more before he confesses to her when he sees her.
“She had been a bit off today. I think she needs to have some calming pills or just visit a doctor. She didn’t even take a sip of alcohol tonight,” Jack said and Harvey found it very worrisome.
He knew how much Ruby loves smoking and drinking. It seems like he wasn’t going to hide it from her anymore.
“Thanks, I will go and check up on her,” Harvey said and ran towards the bathroom.
When he arrived, luckily for him there was no one. So, he called out her name a few times and she emerged. She didn’t look very well; her skin was pale. He had to take her to the doctor.
“Baby, are you okay?” he asked her as he held her hand.
“I think so. What are you doing here?” she asked him.
“I came to take you back you home. I missed you,” he said it and he meant every word.
“I missed you too but I can’t go home now. It’s a party tonight and I should attend,” she said and he looked at her.
She wasn’t looking well and yet she kept on insisting to stay. He wasn’t going to force her. He didn’t want her to be stressed out especially at a time like this.
“Okay but Ruby there is something I want to tell you,” Harvey decided to say it out but she stopped him.
“I have something I need to say too. I will start and you will speak last.”
“Okay, if that’s what you want then I can handle it,” Harvey agreed.
Ruby didn’t know where to begin but since it had come to this then she was going to be honest.
“I’m pregnant,” she said it out and for the first time in a week she felt less burdened.
She was expecting a huge negative reaction from Harvey but to her surprise, he hugged her so tight. She never thought he would want a baby since the two of them were still young and in school. She was relieved upon seeing that reaction and when she was tears rolling down his cheeks, she was touched.
“You are not mad at me?”
“I can never be mad at you especially for something like this,” he told her, his hands cupping her cheeks and she smiled at him.
After missing her menstrual cycle, she was suspicious so she bought a few pregnant tests and they all came out positive. Not sure of what she was again, she even visited a gynecologist and she confirmed that she was seven weeks pregnant.
She had never thought of having children at such a young age. She wanted to build her career first, make a name for herself before even having a child but now she was carrying one.
She was even surprised to herself not wanting to abort the pregnancy but keep it. This was the proof of her love and Harvey’s and she wasn’t ashamed of it.
“You had something to tell me. What was it?” Ruby finally remembered and asked.
“I guess, you just beat me to it. I wanted to tell you that you were pregnant and was wondering how you will react and all that but I’m glad that it all worked out,” Harvey told her and she was shocked upon hearing this.
“So, you knew all this time and you never told me?” Ruby was so angry.
“Baby, I’m sorry but I didn’t want to stress you out. You had exams and I just didn’t know how to tell you that so I waited till you were done but didn’t expect that you will get suspicious too,” Harvey told her and she could sense and see his concern for her.
How could she not love him when all he ever thinks about was her?
“You are so cute. I’m glad that you didn’t tell me, I wouldn’t have been able to focus if I knew it earlier. So, thank you for hiding it,” she said as she gave him a peck on his cheek.
“Thank you for understanding,” Harvey said with a smile.
“I think we should leave the toilet now and go and join our friends,” Ruby suggested and he laughed.
He had forgotten that they were still in there. He placed her hand in his and he took her back to where her friends were.
Ruby looked around and noticed that Jack was no longer there.
“What happened to him?” Ruby asked and Alex just kept shaking his head.
“A drama occurred while you were gone but just know that he is safe and happy where he is,” Nancy answered and immediately she knew that Brian had taken Jack away.
